Legend of Korra Book 3: Change |OT| SCHEDULEBENDING

It honestly seems like someone at Nick has some kind of personal vendetta against the creators or the series. Backlash from the movie? I just don't understand it.

Gotta be some completely asinine stuff going on behind the scenes at Nick.

Probably good for a nonfiction book in a decade or two. "How cocaine killed cartoons"

this shit right here is why I stopped watching network TV. Tired of their schizophrenic bullshit scheduling and re-scheduling. When its on netflix, or any other the other subscription services, ill watch.

I really, really want to hold back on the "It was better when I was younger" rhetoric

But I watch TV like a kid anyway, and I'm either remembering wrong but Nick and CN really...REALLY suck ass now don't they?

Talk about bitching about online media killing TV, they couldn't be making it more easy for them. It's like someone pointing a gun to your head so you just slit your own throat, as if that will save you.

Nick was legit good in the early and mid 90s and had a good variety of shows on a decent rotation. It's slowly gone downhill since Nick has used Fairly Odd Parents and SpongeBob as a crutch without really picking up and keeping quality shows.

With other outlets and a resurgence at CN with some quality shows and popularity behind Toonami have left Nick in a rough spot that they are fine wallowing in instead of investing in getting a solid viewer base. SpongeBob ain't gonna do that.

I knew something was up the minute they released 4 episodes at the same time for the season finale last season, that just never happens. Hopefully season 4 still manages to come out in some form.

from Dimartino's FB a few mins ago.

Hang tight, Korra fans. There is 1 new episode this Friday at 8, then the rest of the season will be available from various sites online. We'll let you know when we have more details. Thanks!

so its as feared....

WTF

and here i thought they were trying to get the hype under control again.

Best case scenario, Netflix or Amazon bought the show. Worst case, Nick is trying to kill it like CN did with Young Justice.

In the long run, as long as we get to see these episodes and we get to see Book 4 (which was confirmed as the final Book of Korra) this won't matter. In the immediate though it royally sucks.

It was less that Netflix dropped the Viacom deal because they were getting out of giant exclusive deals with big companies (they signed a major one with Disney a few months later) and more that Amazon dropped a dump truck full of cash to get the rights for themselves. The same shows are now on Prime Instant Video.

What the fuck

I don't understand why this keeps happening with cartoon focused networks.

This is some Young Justice level bullshittery.

I honestly don't get it.

It makes me wonder if there isn't some shady accounting going on, where they want to be able to show they poured a bunch of money into a show's budget but don't actually want it to be successful.

Why even order the show if you're just going to screw it over?

Meanwhile Nickelodeon producers discuss their new plan:

Well this sucks.

I just hope we get to see book 4, since that was always going to be the final season.

Also do we have any idea how the past DVD and Blu-ray sales have been? I know digital has been decent. I'd like to think those still have a chance, they might as well try to make some money out of those right? Right? :(

Fuuuuuck.

Why do I even bother watching action cartoons. Young Justice should have taught me a lesson on how shitty networks can be.

Can't comment on past sales, but just looking at the Amazon pages you can see this

  1. ATLA: Book One:
    #3 in Movies & TV > DVD > Anime
    #25 in Movies & TV > DVD > Kids & Family
  2. ATLA: Book Two
    #2 in Movies & TV > DVD > Anime
    #23 in Movies & TV > DVD > Kids & Family
  3. ATLA: Book Three
    #1 in Movies & TV > DVD > Anime
    #20 in Movies & TV > DVD > Kids & Family
  4. LoK: Book One (DVD)
    #18 in Movies & TV > DVD > Anime
  5. LoK: Book One (Blu-Ray)
    #26 in Movies & TV > Blu-ray > Kids & Family
  6. LoK: Book Two (DVD)
    #24 in Movies & TV > DVD > Kids & Family
  7. LoK: Book Two (Blu-Ray)
    #8 in Movies & TV > Blu-ray > Kids & Family

Other "Top" items in the "Kids & Family" category: Lego Movie, Rio 2, Frozen, Harry Potter, Despicable Me 2.

I don't know what that category is worth, but they seem to be doing fairly decent for themselves still.

That looks decent yeah.

Although going from what I've seen on the gaming side Amazon can be misleading when it comes to these things...

I'm guessing the idiots who're involved on the programming side of things don't have much to do with DVD / Blu releases though. I hope.

So does anyone know who owns the rights to the TLA universe? Nick or Brian/Mike? Would love to see more original shit in the distant future on netflix and the like, but if nick owns the rights it looks like this entire franchise is pretty much done.

nick owns the property

they did the same thing in the first series. the back half of book 3 was shown in 1 week. 4 eps on the final night.

That's true. It can definitely be misleading at times. But, they're almost all in the Top 25, so even if the numbers are off, they should still be decent.

nick owns the property

Nick needs money. If somebody were willing to pay, would Nick even sell?

Yeah, it's been said before that Nick often does messed up things with show scheduling/releases (it's normal for them). And ATLA was not immune from that. Book 3 had a really shit release.

It really is a shame that it took two seasons for them to realize why people enjoyed the original show so much.
I mean, I liked the first two seasons ok, but they were missing so much of the wonder that Last Airbender captured.
It turned off way too many fans.

Think it has more to do with Nick's asinine scheduling.

Hence the title of this thread.

As I said in another post, there's definitely plenty of blame that can be thrown at Nick.
But there is some that has to go to the writers that really turned off fans early.

Ugh annoying news to wake up to, Guess you can see new episodes online now though nick
Nick sure really screwed up promoting this show
Hopefully they put the episodes on a decent digital platform

Watch them put up each of the remaining five episodes on entirely different digital platforms, then wait a year to upload the rest of the book.

I still think it was odd of them to release the last 3 episodes of LoK Book 2 online in a single night. They randomly announced it in the morning, and then put them up that night. So maybe we'll get some BS release like that for Book 3 (we can only hope).

We probably shouldn't panic yet. It's possible that it's just a two week hiatus, and we will be on a one episode per Friday schedule fro the remaining. It DOES worry me that they pulled the August 1st and 8th date. But meh. Book 2 also had some weird 2 week hiatus as well.
The director is basically saying that Nick won't be airing them at all and we'll have to wait until streaming services get them.
And who knows when that is.
This is definitely panic worthy.

Holy crap, I didn't even know this started airing. I don't know if I should watch it now or wait, since who knows how long I'll have to wait.

Well hopefully we should be getting some answers about the future of the show on Friday as they have a panel at comic con then

Whoa I must be blind. The creators said that!?

EDIT: Oh I see on tumblr:
