LTTP: The Americans

After watching 2 seasons of The Americans, i thought i'll share my impressions, because they are different from overall GAF impressions.
First of all. This show is not bad. And it's not great. It's good but not "best finale of 2014" and best "new show of 2013 good". This is a show that a little bit better than The Bridge, and comes nowhere near Fargo and Justified.

Season 1 is better than season 2. It's watchable, but i felt like there wasn't anything special about it. After all the praise this show got i expected something a little bit better.
Season 2 on other hand is a lot worse. It starts ok, but it drags in the middle, and closer to the end writing becomes just silly.
Season 2 spoilers
1) So Larrick becomes the one who sets things in motion. He kills guy on the phones and Kate. I don't even want to know how he found them. By some number in phone company? Where did he get it in the first place?
2) Paige church subplot? Just no. Any other show would get so much shit for it.
3) And finally BIG TWIST REVEAL. 2 trained spies and their daughter were killed by their son. WHAAAAAAAT?
But why? We'll know why in a 3 minute scene where son in question gets shot and is chocking with blood. "SO YEAH, THERE WAS THIS HOT RED HEAD KGB AGENT, THAT I WANTED TO FUCK SO BAD. BUT MY DADDY WOULDN'T LET ME DO IT, SO I KILLED THEM ALL".
Wow. I mean, it's not good writing.
I'll admit i'm a little puzzled by all the acclaim this show gets from critics and on GAF.

I only watched the first few episodes of season 1 but I thought the consensus was that season 2 was much better than season 1, surprised you thought the opposite.

HIGH DEF JEFF:
Re: Finale
What a dud.
The Paige stuff is the only interesting carry over for next season.
Nina's story ends very uneventful and with her gone Beeman is now a boring character.

Larrick, who seemed pretty menancing through the season goes out with such wimper.
Shuffling through the forest holding a gun to Liz's back. In full "don't try anything funny or I'll shoot ya" mode. Meanwhile earlier in the episode the guy is everywhere he needs to be. Liz goes to visit Jared, hes there. Phil goes for coffee he's there too. Liz and Jared go for a walk, now hes there. He's like Michael Meyers.

Then theres the....confessions of a dying killer scene. Ayeeee. That old cliche.
So Jared was the killer and on his death bed he needs to make us give a shit about why he killed his parents and he has to do it in a 90 second monologue. He does so with a bunch of words from a page that you can hear through his bloody gasps. I hate scenes like that. We need to wrap up a season long murder mystery and for no real reason we need the killer to die and explain some shit.

How about this..Jared lives. He turns, shoots/kills Larrick, saves Liz and Phil then tells them about who he really is. They arent going to kill him. And now we have a character for next season that has some interesting things going on OR those extraction people Phil spoke to show up and already know what Jared is and whisk him away. Leaving us wondering if Mother Russia is going to still use him or dispose of him since he is kinda compromised (foster mother/ missing person, etc).

Instead he's dead and so are some of interesting plot threads.
