But the C;H anime is trash and the VN is, according to you, even better than S;G's, so I wouldn't assume the VN's quality judging the anime. R;N had some serious pacing issues, I don't think it's particularly faithful to the VN.
I assume that R;N was held to much higher standards seeing the episode count, much higher animation quality and the fact it came after the wonderful Steins;Gate anime. Looking at a still from Chaos;Head should tell you everything you need to know (awful) (I still don't understand why the opening sequence to C;H was so well animated compared to everything else starting with the opening)
Something to note is the fact that Chaos;Head gives you a choice every delusion; none, green, or red. Green is more fantasy, red is more fear/nightmare. Should you choose (and I do recommend), you can go all-red and get a ton of dark sequences skipped in the anime (somewhat reminiscent of the visual novel 'The Noose', a very short freeware)
If the VN was as bad as the anime, they surely wouldn't be making a direct sequel. Don't skip it~
