PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

Strider and Towerfall were free with ps+ within 4 months- fool me twice Sony? Never again.

I'm guessing the publishers came to Sony begging them to make those games PS+.. If I'm not mistaken both titles unperformed.

I wouldn't play the game waiting game hoping for another such occurrence... Might be waiting a while, especially on Counterspy and Velocity 2.

If I am not mistaken, wired PS4 -> your router -> Vita has better remote play.

Gotta optimize your $400 accessory for Vita!

The best connection is ad-hoc PS4 > Vita, no router involved - so it doesn't matter how it's wired in.

If you're connecting over the internet then yes, it'd matter that it's wired vs wireless - otherwise, nope.

Just fired up the PS3 and there was a PS Store patch.

Hope springs eternal, so I fired it up. I didn't really think it could still be as awful as I remembered ... and it isn't!

It's worse!

Why, Jebus? Why?

Every time I see a patch for the Store my reaction is the same: "Sony, what's the point?"

Sony making the Playstation Store into an app on PS3 is one of the dumbest decisions they made. It made the store far, far worse.

Really?

I thought the consensus was to not directly connect with the PS4.

I could find other threads; I was reading them since I was thinking of buying a PS4 but never connect it to a display ever again after the setup.

Edit: Also, IIRC, PS4 is only 2.4Ghz, so by having it wired, you'd have less stuff to worry about.

It's excellent. Looks crisp and controls well, and auto cross-saves with the other Sony versions.

Been playng the heck out of it.

I couldn't tell you why anyone else is getting the result they're getting. It's possible that different bandwidths of wireless radio come into play (bandwidth and channel overlap could be the difference there), but for me direct connection is clearly the best choice.

If you set everything up right and in perfect conditions, direct connection is smooth and clearly superior to other connection methods (especially with regards to input).

Trust me, I'm a computer tech. ;)

I'm thinking about adding 20 dollars on PSN to buy Castlevania SotN and Final Fantasy IX to play on Vita. Never played much of Castlevania, and sometimes I'm itching to try it out, and FFIX I've played a lot as a child, was in love to the game, but stopped at the 4th disc.

Should I do it?? =o

computer tech ya say

ps4 and vita wifi is shit..... neither way is smooth.

PS4 -> router (via wifi) -> Vita (via wifi) will never be better than PS4 to Vita as long as the PS4 and Vita are closer together than the PS4 and router, and there is no obstructions present with thee PS4 to Vita that are not present between the router signal.

You are adding an extra step for the wireless to information through when using a router as opposed to ad-hoc. The router method is only best once you get out of the effective wifi range of the Vita and PS4, and then your router is acting as a signal booster. Unless Sony has awful code for the ad-hoc connection, it would not make sense for a connection via router to provide a better signal than direct (given that the PS4 and Vita are closer than the PS4 and router).

I have tried both and the direct connection is night and day better, until I move the Vita to a location with several walls in between the PS4. The PS4 or Vital will be the weakest link if you have a good router, and the performance will be based on their wifi capabilities, instead. However, with he router, you are just adding an additional piece of hardware to slow down the signal as it must then be processed and redirected.

just platinum'd atelier rorona after around 100 hrs..time for the next game. any good suggestions? or should i just wait for akiba's trip for now..and play some pinball meanwhile.

I was confused when the Asia version of Project Diva F didn't have any age rating on it, but the Asia version of Madoka: Battle Pentagram doesn't even have the -logo- on it? That's so weird..if they combined the two you'd have the cleanest box art.

Targeting 4 games this month:

Disgaea 4
SAO: Hollow Fragment
Akiba's Trip: U&U
Neptunia Re;Birth

I'm gonna be poor this month if I buy them all :( Maybe I'll get Neptunia and Disgaea later.

I'm trying to configure Vita to remote play from a different network...I see some older posts mention TCP: 9295 and UDP: 9296 and other misc. ports, but the official page says I only need to open UDP 9304. What gives?

Guys, is it true that you cannot complete Ratchet 2 in the retail version of the trilogy? I read it crashes at some point. First Jak and Daxter, then Borderlands 2 and now another vita shitty port with Ratchet and Clank trilogy? I feel so frustrated with Sony lately...

Apologies if this is not a good place to say this, but I just got to say, I have always been a Sony fan but my god do I dislike my Ps4. That goddam thing never seems to work well... It worked flawlessly at launch, but now my network features work ~15% of the time. And I have a 50mbps connection.

I gave up ever trying to save videos, my store RARELY opens, watching streams seems to be broken most of the time and I can never rely on the "whats new" or game network sections. Plus no themes, dlna, usb video and game updates/downloads are inconsistant. This console is just a mess for me...

Dunno what to do about this thing! I use my ps3 more... Sorry for the rant, just needed to say this!!

Why dont you contact the customer service and exchange your console?

That is a good idea and I might just try it.
Has anyone had success with that though? Are the network issues with the console or Sony? Everything seems fine unless it has to run off a Sony server (can stream video at 1080p easily).

Have you the option to take your console to a friend and try it there?
Sounds more like an Network Issue for me.

You should really try switching to Google's DNS if you haven't, I find of the free DNS alternatives it gets the best speeds on Sony's services.

How does matchmaking work on PS4? Does it match by your PSN region, or by IP? Planning on moving to US account, since our regional prices are fucked up beyond measure. Sony should take a lesson or two from Gaben.

Depends on the game, I would've thought. Mostly by IP I'd guess though.

So Chaos Rings III is coming to Vita but we dont have Chaos Rings II or Omega. Smart move Squeenix.

it says on right on the title "prequel trilogy"

yeah and according to you that means....

Because as far as i can see the gameplay image doesnt belong to any of the original 3 chaos rings already released

Another image example of the NEW game.
Game will be released as a retail title on Vita , hits japanese stores on October 16.

The screenshots are from Chaos Rings III. They're not Vita resolution, though.

However, Vita isn't solely getting a port of Chaos Rings III, or else its version would just be called that. It's getting "Chaos Rings III Prequel Trilogy". We don't know what that means exactly right now, but given the name and the higher price it's probably more than a single game.

I'd assume it's the 3 previous games and 3. Like the name implies :lol

I understand that but images from Chaos Rings III: Prequel Trilogy are these ones so even thou they are not Vita's screenshots its not the games already launched all in a package(if that were the case i will buy it day 1). I think its a new but episodic or 3 parts divided Chaos Rings (i would like to be wrong and if Flandy is correct i promise to buy the game twice because reasons) . Even thou the screens are not from Vita's native version the game will get a retail release and i think will not differ as much in graphics or resolution.

So the items in Treasures of Montezuma Arena seem poorly thought out. The blocks that can cause damage are skulls, blue, red, and white. You can buy items that block all damage from skulls, reduce blue damage to 1, and reduce red damage to 2. They didn't seem to think about how long a match would take if both players had all those items equipped.

According to those who have played the retail version, no. It freezes when you go to the mini levels, but reloading the game will make the trick.

Do games often go free one or two months after release? Let me rephrase that: do games EVER go free one or two months after release?

The only one I can remember is Stealth Inc. I remember people being pissed because the game hit in July and they bought it and then in late august it was in the IGC

How's the Rogue Legacy port job (Vita)?
I was thinking of grabbing it before I go on vacation in the middle of September.

It's excellent. It works almost perfectly font he vita with the only issue I've seen is the framer ate sometimes dips for a second before you enter the castle, but once your in its solid. It's such a good game on the vita as well. I've not put it down since I bought it and I've now just unlocked the final boss door.

The mobile version is still just called Chaos Rings III

The Vita version is more expensive, packaged, and called Chaos Rings III Prequel Trilogy

If the game was 3 brand new, unreleased parts, why would they not also call the mobile version Chaos Rings III Prequel Trilogy? Why would the Vita version be so much more expensive? There's no way 'trilogy' doesn't simply refer to the previous games being included. There's also likely no screenshots from the previous games because they're probably a straight port with minimal graphical tweaking/changes.

Anyone else pre ordered The Swapper? I have high expectations for this one, hope the puzzles aren't too hard.

Game is absolutely fantastic. Brilliant and intriguing story mixed with deep sad atmosphere and smart puzzles. There are couple tough puzzles though, at least I had to look into solution a few times. One of the best games I've ever played, period. I say you can safely pre-order it, if you're into this kind of games.
