Use the distress beacon and an NPC will turn up with fuel.
It's not only NPC's. Pirates and other players can show up to also kill him. Lol it's a double-edged sword putting out a distress signal.

Thanks. Went back to station, bought a Hauler and then about 6 jumps later bought a Type 6 at Aulin. The nightmare is over.Use the distress beacon and an NPC will turn up with fuel.

What's a good route right now for the Hauler to earn some dough?
If you want to keep it close to the starting point with around 5-10k for cargo then
Aulin Agri-Med -> Azeban
Azeban Fruits & Veg -> Aulin
Swap Fruits and Vegetables for Coffee when you can afford a full hold.

How do you activate a distress signal? Is it something you need to buy for your ship?

The same but with all the new shiny. It's everything I'd hoped for and moreQuick question to Beta players...Frontier: Elite II is very likely my favourite game of all time. My Amiga 500 and later 1200 were my virtual cockpits. How comparble is this game to that experience?
Fuelling via the distress signal is also much more expensive than via station, just had a top-up via this method that cost me over 2500 credits instead of the usual 50 credits.I just wanted to say "what purpose does the fuel system have then" - good to know![]()

E's flight model is non-newtonian. That's probably the only major difference between the two games in terms of design philosophy. It might turn off some fans of the old games, but it makes combat a lot better, so I think that was the right choice.
The rest is either the same but better, or completely new and totally awesome. And that's not counting the expansions, which will add even more awesome stuff like walking around inside ships and space stations and rich planetary gameplay, among other things.
Note that I don't have a lot of experience with Frontier. I didn't know it existed when it came out, and I only played about 8 or 10 hours of it while waiting for the Premium Beta.

If you turn off flight assists you will have proper newtonian flight model
edit: beaten!
It's still not quite full newtonian though, due to the speed cap.
But it's still neat and useful, nothing more graceful that speeding past a station, pitching up a timed 180 so that you're facing the entrance and then dropping FA back on and docking, feels boss!
Hi guys,
I have been trying out the latest beta version today (1.03) and have been getting some serious performance issues.
Am still waiting for my DK2 to arrive, so meanwhile I am still using my trusty DK1.
I have noticed a drastic drop in FPS in the latest Beta release (compared to Premium Beta 1 and 2).
Sitting in the starting dock, without the Rift, all settings on low at 1080p I am getting:
130fps
Without changing any other settings, and only altering the rendering mode to Oculus Rift (headphones) my fps drops immediately to:
35fps
I could swear that in earlier premium betas my fps in this exact same situation using the DK1 were a lot higher, somewhere in the 70-80fps range!
Any ideas?
My rig is: 2500k @ 4.5ghz, EVGA 780Ti, 8Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3, Win 8.1, Very latest Nvidia drivers installed (340.52).
It's still not quite full newtonian though, due to the speed cap.
Hi GAF, I posted this on /r/oculus and /r/elitedangerous yesterday but haven't really got any firm confirmations by other players, basically having some performance issues playing the latest beta using a DK1. If anybody here has any ideas (or has noticed similar performance issues), would be much appreciated to hear from you:
Keep in mind that judder when you are turning your head is apparently a flaw with the latest oculus sdk.
The speed cap varies between ships. The fastest ship in the beta has a top speed of 500 meters per second.
How big is the speed cap?
Because if it is low... I'm very interested in Ebut i'm concerned about stuff like that (oh and don't tell me they're adding 3rd person view that is playable, external camera for merely admiring your ship is ok)..
/facepalm
50000 m/s would have been nice. Hell, i 5000 m/s would have been okay.
500 m/s is just stupidly slow.
Yeah, i get it may be good for the gameplay but as it is, it would kill any immersion for me. Not to mention i wouldn't find it believeable, fitting to the rest of the game (which, based on videos, looks nice and cool, and believable if not quite realistic).
That may be true but there is definitely some kind of framerate microstutter that's entirely separate from graphics settings or the Rift. I get it even on a regular monitor.
It doesn't affect everyone (or maybe some people just don't notice it) but it's enough to annoy the hell out of me in VR.
The take advantage of hyper threading and will utilize 8 threads that once. if I turn off hyperthreading, the CPU load of my four cores will go up to about 91 percent. with hyper threading on my CPU load said that about 50 percent. like I said perhaps your CPU is the bottleneck.
Reasonable solution. They said the only way they would ever introduce 3rd person camera is by you having to buy a "camera drone" which you could then fly around your ship. The drone would be quite slow so you couldn't use it while in full flight and it would not offer you any hud elements.
Reading stuff like this makes me super sad cause you are dismissing the game over numbers. Numbers that mean absolutely nothing. Sad.
Reasonable solution.
Ah but they mean a lot. To me anyway.
Small, bad details often kill my interest in books, films, games, whatever. They bother me way too much.
You got a big fucking galaxy, reasonable believeability in style and aesthetics (unlike Star Citizen's aircraft-looking spacecraft...), and other interesting things. And then you give something that is completely at the odds with the rest?
I doubt this is the case, considering that I still get the stutter even when running the game at 1024x768 with all settings at minimum. But it is something new to try so I'll give it a go.
further your CPU doesn't support hyperthreading

How are you supposed to do any kind of dog fighting or fighting at all at those speeds?
As far as I know, my i7 2600k does support hyperthreading, I've never tried disabling it, though.
the settings have a minimal effect on CPU load. further your CPU doesn't support hyperthreading so I don't know how you're going to try this outside of actually buying a new CPU. the game is simply a monster on your CPU. this will get better with optimization.
Lol what, a 2600K isn't enough for this game? The one you have is only 20% faster. I doubt they would target only the absolute newest type of CPU. Hyperthreading also isn't some magical solution, it should only improve performance by a few percent.
...I'm speaking to someone with a 2500k with 4 threads.
But what do all those threads matter. The CPU still has only four cores that can do the same number of IPC as a CPU with Hyperthreading. The only thing it can do to speed up things is to time parallel instructions properly, it does not magically create double the ALUs.
Reading stuff like this makes me super sad cause you are dismissing the game over numbers. Numbers that mean absolutely nothing. Sad.
I'd love a third person view.
It's woorloog. He's the kind of guy that would argue against third person view on the basis of principle.
What principle?
So can you fly a plane, spacecraft, drive a car, or whatever IRL in third person? Aside from some odd experiments, you cannot.
Simulation game that is based on piloting/driving something should stick to first person view.
We have a space sim, you control it from inside. The end. EDIT Do note that "simulation" doesn't automatically mean extreme realism. But if you simulate a fictional thing that is explicitly controlled from inside, with cockpit view and whatever else, stick to that.
If you make some kind of action game, third person view is fine. But if you make an action game, don't call it simulation game in the first place.
I think there's a place for the kind of game you're looking for, I'm just glad that Elite/Star Citizen's designers aren't going for it
You might be interested in Rogue System. While the Kickstarter failed, the guy is continuing development. I hope it turns out well. It could be an interesting game.
