It looks better now... Left is the HD remaster.Any techgaffer able to check if they nerfed lighting as well? Seems something is missing in terms of shadows.

The Wii version (which plays great on the Wii U) is pretty damn cheap on Amazon right now if you don't mind non pan and scan. It's a solid port.
Please don't mess up Jill.
Yes and No. http://www.residentevilsh.com/galer.../resident-evil-revelations-jill-cut-scene.jpg
Wait, this story line of Capcom not archiving the background environmental data has got to be completely bullshit.
What company just fucking hits the delete button on it's visual assets because the game is done. It's like, "we done, so let's save some harddrive room and delete this mother fucker."
C'mon now, I know - it's Capcom and everything but still.

How do you play it? Can you use the game pad? If so, I'll buy now and check it out again when the HD version comes out. This has me dying to play it.
Uh, you might want to read up on video game history a bit. Losing/misplacing source code was (is?) VERY common in Japan.
The classic controller or wiimote+nunchuk work well. Unfortunately you can't use the gamepad as a controller, which is unfortunate, because while you can play offscreen, it's kinda pointless if you have to hold a separate controller.
This stuff actually happens a lot in the industry. I mean there was't even a market for these remasters until last gen, so they probably figured they'd never need them down the line. And you can probably safely bet if people stop buying remasters, companies will start throwing away source work again.....how?
I know it's more complex and complicated than going to file sub-menu and clicking the "save as" button, I get that - but if you've got a team that's competent enough to put together an extremely gorgeous and quality game, you're telling me you don't have any one on said team to think to themselves to save this shit? Even the concept of re-using the art assets to generic objects like doors and candles for their other games would seem to be reason enough to save the assets.
This has probably been asked a million times, but is this a complete remake of RE1 or is it an uprezzed REmake?
There's a difference.
The latter.
Because of the lighting engine changes, I have a feeling that this version of REmake is being run on that one engine Capcom used for Resident Evil 5, Revelations, 6, the HD versions of RE4 and Code Veronica, and the HD versions of Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles.
The engine has specific lighting which causes some lighting changes most noticeable in RE4 and Code Veronica especially. Capcom seems to be in a process of moving all of its RE games it can to this engine, and as lighting is different in the screens for REmasters, I bet this game is being ported to the engine.
The bright news is if this is true is that on PC the game will definitely be modable, and the game should have very good performance and optimization for PC and modern consoles.

Lighting is better in ReMaster compared to Dolphin, but jaggies are noticeable.
I like the ReMaster shot better here. Don't know why but I love these comparison shots
It's important to remember those pics are from the 360/PS3 versions of the game.
Fair point, but I would think the ps360 would have enough Anti Aliasing power to make them look better than that on a game that is probably less technically demanding than most? I certainly don't know, posing the question.

The remaster Chris kinda resembles RE5 Chris a bit.
Man the series used to have such an iconic character's design... now they are so generic![]()
Will you settle for Square Enix as well?

Actually as sad as it sounds but this was a very common practice for japanese devs. There are others like Sega or CAVE who lost their assets for some of their older games.
I think I remember reading before a lot of Japanese companies used to do this for some dumb reason.Wait, this story line of Capcom not archiving the background environmental data has got to be completely bullshit.

I'm very sure RE4 was never been ported to MT Framework engine. I've modded RE4 HD version of the game and there's no hints of anything MT Framework. Based on Capcom has said, it sounds like RE4 HD is a port of a port of a port (gamecube->wii->360->PC).Just to confirm, the Hd versions of RE4 were made on the MT Engine. The original game was not, but they ported it over, and this is confirmed by them for both the 360/PS3 versions, and the Ultimate HD versions, as devs have stated RE4 HD was done on the MT Engine.

Is there any reliable source about CV HD running off MT Framework engine? I find it weird that game specifically would have been ported to MT Framework.
CVX at least was explicitly stated to have been ported using MT Framework and even has new lighting from the engine.
Did Capcom say that? I'm googling it, but I'm not finding any official source on it.
Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X HD is the remastered version of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X. The game has been converted to run on Capcom's newer MT Framework engine which allows for widescreen high definition graphics, smoother lighting and dynamic shadows.
....how?

When you boot the game, the MT Framework logo is displayed.
And yeah, RE4 HD was not ported to that engine, sadly.
I also wanted to say that the people who bitch about the tank controls and are eager to play the game without them are probably going to be disappointed when they realize that using 2D controls to play a game made with pre-rendered backgrounds will be an exercise in confusion and frustration. There is a reason why those games use 3D controls.
The remaster Chris kinda resembles RE5 Chris a bit.
I want Jill in her Resident Evil 3 outfit in this.
Camera changes should be fun for those using new controls![]()

Hopefully it will be implemented like Parasite Eve. The character keeps moving forward (relative to the character) through the camera change as long as the D-pad is held down. When the player releases the D-pad, the d-pad directions reset and become relative to the screen again. This avoids sudden character direction changes when the camera switches. I think the first Devil May Cry used this scheme as well.
Holy shit, I just learned about this! Day fucking 1 on PC, I will buy 5 copies to send Capcom the message. So stoked, Steam users will love this masterpiece! Everyone please support classic RE!![]()
