It's been a while!

What are some decent colouring pencils? Just something nice with plenty of colour and blending options. Something I can get in the UK would be great too.

Not sure if best thread to ask in, but it is active. :)

The small wacom tablet is honestly too small... go for a medium...

Yeah, I went ahead and bought the Huion H610 Pro. That thing has everything the Intuos Pro Medium has except for tilt (I'm not trying to paint here) and touch support (which I won't even need because of hotkeys). All for less than $100 and it's not some type of bargain-tier, broken ass hardware from China according to Amazon reviews and this guy who wrote a pretty detailed review: http://frenden.com/post/87110791272/huion-h610-pro-h610-k58-graphics-tablet-review.

For now, I've been drawing on college ruled paper. I was either gonna upgrade to a binder full of printer paper or an Intuos tablet. Do you guys think this one is too small for someone who seriously wants to get into art?

Oh wow. Im getting this instead:

http://www.amazon.com/Huion-H610-Gra...rds=Huion+H610
I use this :
works perfectly and isn't too small. I have no idea why it's so expensive right now since I bought it from amazon a year ago for 40 bucks new.
don't like how this turned out at all but I'll post it anyway

The H610 is fantastic, I've had it for awhile now.

So I'm going through Loomis's Fun With a Pencil where he talks about visualizing the face in basic shapes. He starts off with a bunch of a spheres and then says you should add lines to represent the axis. Problem is I'm having a hard time visualizing the middle line and "ear line" on my own spheres (specifically when drawing spheres that are titled on an angle.)

I'm going to go to the 100 yen store and pick up a ball and then just draw the lines on it so I have something to look at while I'm trying to put my own faces together. I took a break from doing the stuff in the book and tried to apply the lesson to a Persona character and it wasn't bad. I'm going to keep going through the book since it's fun and seems like a decent place to start;d

Any other advice for visualizing spheres / axis lines or is it just something that comes with practice?

Is this color pallet cool?

Man, this is so good. The only thing I can really critique is that the leaves on the trees feel a bit flat since they're only one colour and have not detailing to show how light is hitting them or going through them. Don't really know if changing them would be for the best though... it might pull focus from the tiger and the rider.

Really nice work.

Jeez, found this thread accidentally. So many awesome drawings. It kind of hurts when I compare them
to my skills. I need 3-5 sketches until next friday for work to explain a few Guerilla ideas and these people will most likely laugh at me ^^ - so if anyone is interested in transforming my stuff in something that is acceptable, please Stand up and Save me :D I perhaps can pay a few bucks too, even though it is not much :)

Thanks! I'll keep it in mind about doing some detailing on the leaves a little next time, but I tried to keep it a little simple there since I get super render porn like everywhere else (kinda how you mentioned, the extra rendering taking away the attention and probably maybe not needed), hah. But maybe an area or two with some rendering wouldn't be bad? We'll see.

Oh YEAH, final colors:

And the inks by themselves (I'm still pretty into plain inks lately, sadly my inks are only impressive looking in person or at high resolution, at least I think).

And Nightrider, coloring is no fun for me at all. I only do it because I need to get better until I find an eternal life coloring partner to handle this for me, hah.

Do you have examples like a quick sketch where it looks messed up to you? I uploaded a quick sketch of what it might look like to look straight down someone's nose.

http://i.imgur.com/ohjZstl.jpg

The straight line is sort like a line you'd get if made a latitude line on a globe. The dotted line is like if you took the equator line (or brow) and rotated the whole globe forward. Is that what was messing you up or something different?

Ugh.. I have been really stressed out for the last couple of weeks due to family issues and other personal stuff, so I feel like I could hardly focus on anything important..
Some "procrastinart" did happen though because it was a way to relieve all this anxiety..
Double meme with friend (I did right side)

Some nsfw stuff that you can find on my art: http://praxart.tumblr.com

This short comic about my characters wanting to start a "Swim Club" because oen of them likes watching Free! (which I don't watch! haha -- but Sailormoon Crystal's so ugly and poorly done that I may switch over to preserve my sanity)

Close up of Free! panel for anyone whos' a fan:

And some cute sketches of me trying to practice different angles (but without references because I'm dumb lol).
First pose was super easy neutral, then come top down view.. harder, but somewhat intuitive.. then the last pose with the two ladies killed me because this weirdly top view 3/4 angle but actually from the side is really hard and confusing + foreshortening and what is even happening gah.

I've been drawing people on the train when I commute as always and have been posting the finished inked versions on my Instagram/Tumblr (usually once a week; I don't update my Tumblr with portfolio work as much as I should since I put it off much like Prax).See that stuff here.

Digital painting drives me nuts but I'm determined to get the gist of it and master it. The huge amount of brushes in PS overwhelms me. I have a bunch of PSDs that I started but never finished so I plan on going back to them to finish and color them in. Last few I've done:

Captain America a few weeks ago back on July 4th. I have an alternate version of it because I wasn't happy with the way it looks. The neck still bothers me for some odd reason.

After several months without conceptualizing characters for a comic, I started something last week. Still rough; especially the bottom most face so I plan coming back to it to flesh it out. Maybe I might use this character, maybe not.

2gpJO3K.jpg

Did this one earlier. It was of two minds. To the left you have a slightly stylized mini portrait of my friend which I used an image for reference as well as the rough sketch of a female friend who I was trying to draw from memory; to the right is a rough reference image of a woman posing on a boat that I got super into for some odd reason. I think I'm going to delete it entirely and continue drawing more faces of friends for fun as I like the way it came out.

Ahhhh!
A coupe of my friends coloured my sketches~~ *___* <3 <3 <3

I just have to show them off!

It's so nice.. I wish colouring weren't such a chore for me!

Was that actually water coloured or is it clever Photoshop trickery? That looks great!

I really want to get back into digital painting. My old Grapphire4 is done though. Should I splurge on an Intuos, do you think? I'd probably go for the medium-sized one since Amazon tends to have decent deals on it, from time to time.

All CGing!
There's been a watercolour tutorial for Paint Tool SAI going around the last few days:
http://bluekomadori.tumblr.com/post/93334191980/the-tutorial-of-how-i-achieve-watercolor-effect-in
The person who coloured my image used the tutorial for the first time to good effect!

Yes. Get an Intuos! OR the cheaper Monoprice brand of tablets (which is just as good, I hear!). I very happily upgraded away form my cramped graphire 4 and it made colouring sooooo much easier and more enjoyable--even if it's not so enjoyable that I want to do it all the time.. but good enough!

Aww man don't stop colouring! I think it really brings your inks to life! How can colouring not be fun?? Anyway your stuff is looking super polished and energetic. Tres bien.

Lazy Sunday drawing.

It's lovely seeing your stuff again.

I have like, 3 things going on at once.

I saw your thing on tumblr before talking about doing collab work. I have this sketch of a KunQu opera actress that I might be able to finish up soon, and probably wont have time to colour it myself, so naturally I thought of you, since I like your colour combinations. Still have time to give it a go?

Feel's like it's been a long while since I've updated, but I've been working on a lot of nsfw stuff. I finally got around to doing a personal piece after not having done one since November last year. It's quite refreshing.

heirpoppypreviewpqu2b.jpg

It's pretty similar in theme to a lot of my work stuff, but it's just nice not having to have everything checked and okay-ed. Not sure on the time, not even bothered either.

Wow some beautiful stuff in this thread.

Here's a thing I was working on a few weeks ago, but I never went back to it and I don't think I really will, so why not.

THe moment I saw your image I knew BlueKomadori was related haha. Wonderful stuff =)

C.B. That painting is quite captivating.

Yeah, coloring sounds fun. I'm down. I like collabs, it's a change of pace from my typical stuff.

Ah awesome, I'll try and get it done soon. I'm interested to see what colours you apply to it. I'll hit you up when its finished.

Still working on this, did some hand work.

the composition is a bit off with it all cropped, but its uh..nsfw-ish. As usual. I'll stop spamming the thread till its done for now ahha. I'm estimating about 12 hours at this point. It's a bit slow moving but I think I'm just trying to make it last as long as I can :c

More sketches.
More angles I don't usually use!
I don't know much about anatomy still so I usually guess! lol
I think this took about 3 hours. Urgh. lol

One day I will tackle environment and like.. architecture and room furniture. <___<;;

Just a quick thing. Anyone got a good swatch set for skin tones? Would sure love good ones (cough cough C.B. got skin tones like a boss and I'm jelly cough cough). :D

Haha thanks man. I don't actually use pre set swatches or pallets or anything like that, I just sort of pick the colours as I go along. A lot of the skin tone I think would be effected by the lighting you have in the image, and its a matter of mixing the skin tone colour, and your imagined light source colour to get the right tone for the reflected light off the skin. I mean you also have to keep in mine where the skin is thin, or thick, whether there is bone, fat, or muscle behind it, and how oily or dry the area is. As well as that you need to keep in mind under tones and veins and all that shit. That's the stuff i think about when picking colours for skin.

Saying all that, here's a wip for a bust commission with a not so great skin tone. And -another- white guy elf. I just don't know when it will end.

firpreview4js4v.jpg

Having a pretty bad day, and really don't like doing bust commissions. They are boring. Or maybe it's my fault for making them boring. hm. Maybe a few hours in so far.
