Fine work everybody! We've got our revenge and ruined almost any chance for civil communication!

I want you to follow this story and the black guy in Ohio that got shot inside a Wal-Mart because he was carrying products sold in the store.

I think you'll be surprised at which story leads to change.

I'm going to bed. I hope no one gets hurt. Remember, property is insured and replaceable.

Yes but what I still don't get is why people think that something that hasn't affected them personally they should be mad about. I mean heck even the family members of the victim are telling these idiots to leave and go home and they should be the most pissed off.

Do you understand that idiots, as you put them, make choices for all sorts of reasons?

Do you not understand that people get emotional, over say, Football, for example? They riot. Lakers fans Riot to celebrate/lose as well.

What do you need help understanding about human beings being upset over reasons that upset them that aren't within their intimate grasp?

People also get hurt in riots.

Fuck that, it was all over the news, unheard my ass.

NOW it's all over the news. While I don't agree with the looting. It's amazing how people on twitter and all over social media are upset over the loss of property but didn't lose any sleep over the life of black teenager!

People are fed up. This happens far too often. AGAIN while I don't agree with the looting or violence WHAT has peaceful protest gotten us when the people that commit these atrocities keep getting acquitted?

American police policy towards black men has been disgusting to say the least. I don't condone rioting, but you can only oppress a group so much until something gives, especially when the justice system, which is supposed to mete out injustice, has been so corrupt on the other side.

I'm pulling for both, hopefully. This one seems the least salvageable though.

and I don't disagree. In an earlier post I said this is an effect of an unfortunately shitty situation that could have been avoided.

Okay fuck these people. The people that lit that fire should be locked up for good. They might have just ruined innocent lives. They are no better than the cops they hate.

I'm going to bed. I hope no one gets hurt. Remember, property is insured and replaceable.

What about the people who worked at the burned down business? What will they do for a living now?

This protest could've been a good thing, but all the people being peaceful are going to be overshadowed by the ones that are robbing convenience stores and lighting them on fire.

Why....why is the always the freaking answer to deaths? It just kinda seems some of these people wait for an innocent person to be killed just so they can destroy crap and steal everything in site. Stop doing this crap it's an endless cycle, get the damn cop arrested and sent to jail and try to change to police force provoking them and doing all of this crap isn't helping.

The cop will not go to jail and peaceful protests will not do anything. Protesting only works when you have a functioning government. A quiet protest might give you the warm fuzzies sitting at home behind your monitor, but the people who have to deal with police occupation every day will not be helped. We do not have the right to police their response to injustice.

The corporate state will not be harmed at all. They are insured. They don't care about a single location in the St. Louis suburbs.

The corporate state can not allow property damage to go on indefinitely. That's why they pay the police in the first place. Politicians are far more likely to propose reforms if they fear that riots will spread uncontrollably than they would if there was a peaceful march.

I'm trying to figure out what changed thanks to the LA riots because of the Rodney King beatings. Seeing as how LAPD is one of the worst agencies still in terms of brutality I don't think it did much positive.

Daryl Gates, one of the main reasons the LAPD is so corrupt, was fired. You are right however, that it was too little, too late.

Yes those poor souls, I hope those rims that they are stealing from that autozone will help them cope.

Despite what many think, riots are only going to make things worse and will result in a tougher crackdown and a sort of amnesty for harsh police actions. The only thing riots have done in previous instances is further deteriorate minority neighborhoods and further embolden racists.

Exactly. We are so divided.

Rioting doesn't change anything.

The Black community should look at what the Jewish community has done in terms of influencing the political system by practicing collective economics. Money talks, sadly. Heck, the Montgomery bus boycott was successful due to the economic pressure it created.

In my city last few years there have been several big payouts to families of two unarmed Mexican guys shot while running away from the cops on separate occasions. It does get news attention but to be honest the only thing that will change this is someone from the inside. Cops need to be watched and held liable for their actions. Bottom line. Not sure how it will come about but it's really the only answer.

...and it won't. You really think this will go on indefinitely? Or even go nation wide?

They're not arming themselves because of an increasing crime rate, they are arming themselves because of the increasing wealth gap.

Or, they're arming up because the military is giving away arms. Keep in mind, there is really no need for the Mount Pleasant Police Department to have a vehicle like this. We're a relatively small town with almost no crime to speak of, much less violent crime.

Shots fired everywhere. Hopefully these are just the people rioting shooting at merchandise, not people. And to think some gaffers want guns taken away from the police. Never, ever going to happen.

want guns taken away from the police because a small minority of them are scum. that is absurd.

Fuck that, it was all over the news, unheard my ass.

Looks like you missed the point.

I understand rioting, especially in an area like this. But this seems more like a minority of people using the event to justify doing dumb shit, and I cannot cosign that. The protests were rather well run all day and yesterday.

The corporate state will not be harmed at all. They are insured. They don't care about a single location in the St. Louis suburbs. You think corporations are going to do anything to contain police brutality? That's a laugh.

Furthermore, do you really think it's just corporations that get hurt when you burn down a place of business? Get real. People's lives depend on those jobs.

How long before they start burning innocent people's cars, or damaging homes?

i don't get why people riot. yay, let's burn and loot stuff. which will now drive down property price, and make more affluent people less likely to move in, which means less tax money, which means lower services, which means more poverty.

win for everyone!

The looting, and probably most of the burning of buildings is mostly just assholes taking advantage of the tragedy. It's a reason to do it. Think back to the silly Vancouver riot in 2011 after the Stanley Cup loss.

It makes much more sense once you realize the people who riot are angry and stupid, and some are probably just sadistic.

It's certainly a lot more understandable than something dumb like sports riots.

It's a vicious circle of crime and poverty. Beyond the obvious ramifications for the businesses, tonight has created dozens of more criminals that will end up in jail, which will negatively effect dozens of families.

and probably some more unemployed people if that burning building is any indication

Definitely a better path.

I'm angry as fuck right now. I can see myself wanting to be out there, but not for the looting bullshit. Just to make a stand and be counted. We could really use someone like Martin Luther King Jr right now.

This riot is not simply the result of this shooting but a culmination of unnecessary exorbitant violence against black people by law enforcement in America. Something has to change. I just hope no one else has to be executed for it to happen.

Apparently there was a peaceful sit-in earlier before shit hit the fan.

Taking advantage, groupthink, expressions of frustrations at oppression....I'd say pretty understandable. Not justifiable, mind you.

Ah reasons for those involved that got them in this position is understandable. Rioting isn't justifiable as you so.
