When people complain pres doesn't say enough:

"He's said this and this and that!! Give him a break! He has other things on his plate! DOJ is investigating! What else do you want? Something that actually does something right now!? Some kind of action!? pfffff NO we must wait for paperwork and legal things. Also fox news will be mad and make him look bad so he can't have polarizing opinions"

When people mention his statements on gay marriage, Trayvon martin, dreamers, etc. which did have a positive impact:

"WELL, TALKING DOES NOTHING ALRIGHT!!! gobble gobble i'm so mad you won't leave obama alone"


It doesn't matter at all if nothing happens, it's him advocating something to the public that they otherwise would not have heard or thought about. The president talking about something gives it legitimacy, and opens debate in the general public, maybe mainstream media about alternatives to the status quo. To say he shouldn't try, because you think it won't do anything, is ridiculous to me.

I honestly want to know what the opposition is to the president saying we should have all police wear cameras. Like do you think this is illegal for him to say this? Does he not have the ability to speak? What exactly is the defense of his refusal to do this? (besides him believing they shouldn't be recorded.)

I don't cared if he talk about the issues but at the end of day talking gets noting done. We have seen it many time throughout history were all someone does is talk and gets noting done. Even if he talk about giving camera to police officers it will be talk about for about a week than be forgotten like most issues.

Official members of the press are being arrested, an elected government official has been arrested, and a state senator has been teargassed. This situation's been going on long enough that acting like a mere press release or 3 minute televised address will do much good, if any, is pretty naive.

You're right, I should speak only from my direct experiences because all else is ignorant. During the month of June 14' from S85th Marquette (with some expansion) this was the occurring response to frequent and potent activity (all of it was), as I witnessed new responses to events. Also I did not mean to imply any parallels to the FPD now other than more than "normal" policing being evident, it's not rare across the country. During July I saw a significant difference in neighborhood activity as part of a longer plan I learned, but wasn't able to get a total fix on before I left.
 
They're going to have to send in the National Guard in order to remove the Ferguson police.

Do we have ANY comparable situations in like, the past 100 years?
 
Current speakers on msnbc seemed pretty intelligent, saying that instead of going all out after the bottle they should have made an effort at identifying and arresting the individual. They have thus let the entire situation get out of hand. This is awful. Disgusting even. No matter the scale, I am disgusted that this situation could happen pretty much anywhere else in the US.

The most insane part is how nothing is happening to stop this. in the age of communication/internet. People don't even care.

Those police posts from their forum, just verifies everything I've always known. But damn. Going to save that for our friendly drive by visits from #notevercop

There's no guarantee the National Guard will be required to end this. The governor will be there tomorrow as well as MO's AG.

How was it not blatantly obvious that I was referring to having to oust an entire police department and take over control of an ongoing situation and not the nations' history of civil rights abuses and conflicts?

I think this is wrong. People aren't out there protesting cause they don't care.

If anything, they are out there because of the new communication venues. Ten, fifteen years ago, this would have been just another police incident.

People know about this because of social media, forums, and all that shit.

gigantic civil right abuse in the USA should be covered as if its a disaster. The way the real reporters streaming it have been. Everyone in the media should be covering this, because its probably the worst thing I've seen happen to folks like me, in my lifetime. But, the campaigns have already started. And bias is already set in. The police are just dealing with violent criminals, thats why its ok to execute them, and thats why we really don't need to push cameras on them.

If nothing else, they're going to need them to effectively act as the local police/authority temporarily in order to help things get back to normal, imo.

I don't know or care if it will do any good. I just think it would be better than staying quiet. If he happens to say something poignant in the coming days then I'm fine with that, I thought his speech on the Trayvon martin stuff was good. (But telling people to accept the verdict because rule of law nonsense is annoying.)

But I suspect he's going to condemn rioters and do some false equivalence shit, as if rioting isn't the only reason there's a DOJ investigation/pres statement now. If it was entirely peaceful with a few dozen people there would be no media on this, nothing would have happened, things would be covered up. It would be another black kid killed by a racist organization with no consequence.

Who is we? What are you doing to affect change in the police department? I don't mean that in a mean way but in a practical way. You say We but where do you fit into that We and how are you contributing to that We?

Anyway if your barometer for success or failure is removing all the officers of that department there was never any chance for success.

We as in the United States of America.

Change obviously doesn't happen overnight, but leaving the department as-is would be a disgrace. You and I don't have the power to do this- but the Feds/State ones do.

With the trillions we've blown on the F35 program. Or the billions we give to israel, or the money we pay to bail out banks, the money we used to build/buy all the Police/Military equipment in Ferguson. Pay outs from civil lawsuits from police departments, etc.

There are no excuses anymore. Literally, none. Just people wanting to make up road blocks for a country that prints money.

The federal government funds the Army, they do not fund local police and do not have the power to force local police to wear such things. I'm all for progress in policing but suggestions that have no basis in the reality of our structure of government aren't very helpful.

just based on the raw videos and the quotes from the chief there, that entire police force needs to be gutted and rebuilt from the ground up.

His wife is a real pice of work too it seems.

AKA don't open your mouth unless you're A. a constitutional lawyer, B. read every bill/law and government document that exists, C. know every local, state, and federal position and what their powers are.

If one doesn't know all of this they aren't allowed to protest or really say anything negative, because angry people need concrete legitimate proposals IN DETAIL, on a whim, whenever asked, or else they are just clueless and naive.

Your understanding of the federal/municipal "structure" is like a hundred years out of date.
