I was speaking more about Jeff, but part of the reason Dan is so enjoyable is because he's so dumb and sheltered about things. He gets his fair licks on the podcast of people calling him an idiot for his opinions and he just laughs it off. Other people were right when they were saying he's the Homer Simpson and heel of Giant Bomb. Context and persona matter a lot in comedy and humor.
I've only been exposed to Dan for the few weeks he's been at Giant Bomb but I've already learned that if you're taking Dan seriously, you shouldn't be.
Man, you really are bad at comedy.
I think you're just over sensitive to any criticism of Dan since that wasn't a joke, but a description of behavior.

Yeah, the guy telling you to stop taking things so seriously is obviously the over sensitive one. Not the one complaining that someone is making fun of a video game series or sport they like.

Correcting your terrible attempt to over simply comedy to try and make a point of why something isn't funny isn't being sensitive. It's just pointing out that you have no idea what you're talking about. I have the ability to make those statements and not be touchy about it.

You don't even understand the difference between comedy and mockery. It's no good trying to lecture people on a subject that you don't understand.
Because it's not criticism. Criticism is discussing the misguided experimentation Patrick did with his stories and headlines, or when Jeff maybe took a little too long cracking down on some of the uglier parts of the community.
What you're doing is whinging over someone gently ribbing some dumb gaming franchise or sport or cartoon.
Dan is fine. I find his silly statements endearing. Also, he has already pretty much said that his putting down of other things is a bit of an act.
Honestly, I don't see how anyone can get mad at Dan for shitting on something that they like when that has been something that almost everyone (ESPECIALLY Jeff and back in the day, Ryan) on Giant Bomb does on a pretty consistent bases. Hell, Jeff even doubles down on that stuff sometimes and really twists the knife. He probably just gets away with it because he's usually pretty hilarious about it.

Mocking can be comedic. Ever heard of crowd work? Don Rickles? One of the greatest stand up comedians of all time whose entire bit was mocking people? Or Saturday Night Live? You know, that show that's been on for decades that constantly mocks popular culture?
The fact that you made that statement shows who here understands comedy and who doesn't.

The point of my post was to illustrate that Dan has not gone farther than "This thing sucks and is for stupid people", and I don't find that to be amusing or worthwhile. Not to give self- appointed comedy experts like you a good belly laugh.

I think the problem with Dan is that he isn't actually funny. He does wacky and inappropriate things and seems fun, I just don't actually find any of his content funny.
That said I don't dislike him, and his " I like being ignorant " public persona clearly has an audience.

If you're really interested in giving wrestling a shot, I strongly recommend the Japanese stuff over most of the American stuff. The in ring stuff tends to be way more fast paced and exciting in Japan.

Exactly this. His Terminator opinions are complete blasphemy, but whatever. He presented that as his opinion. I disagree, but who the fuck cares. In the Akiba's Trip QL he, among the "Who likes this!?" comments, stressed that it was an objectively terrible game

Dan calling something dorky or stupid is not exactly insulting. He has referred to stuff he likes as both, he even said "I play with video games for a living, it doesn't get much more dorky than that." (paraphrasing). He rarely calls something dorky with a malicious intent.
