I'm starting to feel nervous about tonight's protests. With all this coming out today, it seems that tensions are going to be on the rise again.

I thought about heading down there to protest, but I may hold off. Funny how much your mindset changes when you have a little one at home, 3 months old at that.
 
Not even in countries that follow a strict version of Shariah Law would kill you for stealing something. The punishment is cutting off the thief's hand.

I can't believe some people are arguing that because Michael Brown stole something, he deserved to be shot.

A struggle over the weapon and one shot fired in the vehicle could easily be justified. Any shots fired at the victim while he was outside the vehicle fleeing would not be.

True, I just assumed ballistics would include counting the number of rounds left in a magazine but that probably just falls under some protocol they have not not ballistics itself.

And I'm not sure that's easily faked, I believe an officer's rounds are kept under scrutiny, unless there was a department-wide coverup.

Its almost like clockwork on how quickly this boy is being villianized over something that is alleged, and even if he did it, he surely didnt deserve to die execution style. This is the type of shit crazy batshit insane ISIS would do...

In the same conference where they released Darren Wilson's name they mentioned that Brown was a suspect in a "strong arm" robbery.

To be fair, the robbery was known to the public the day of. Then the case was given to the filing officer on the 11th. We don't know how long from there it took to complete the case, and at the time there were larger community issues to report on.
 
The part that makes me angry is how everyone will forget about it in a year. All the protests, all the anger, the calls for a revision in how the police operate. Not one goddamn change will take place because of it. And then another incident will take place.

I only saw a few seconds, its another angle - shows him and the counter and his friend with dreads behind him. The later stills show him grabbing/shoving the clerk and leaving the store.

I'm assuming it will be uploaded somewhere soon.
 
I just had a disturbing conversation with my family over breakfast regarding this shooting.
My Mother thinks the cops were justified, if you don't want to get shot and killed don't do crime. I told my Step Father how witnesses had said Brown had his hands up. His response? "What color were they, were they black?" Then they were lying. I asked him because they are black, they can't be telling the truth? Nope, he said. Hell. My Mother agreed with that sentiment. They're lying and mad because a white cop shot a black man. My brother and sister both took the sides of the cops as well. Things got pretty heated.

It makes me disgusted. I guess because I'm not racist, I didn't really consider that the people close to me would be. We don't usually discuss these things. My family are nice people, especially to me, as racist as they apparently are. It's still disgusting.

It has kind of shattered my own perception of how rampant racism really is.

It isn't exactly unheard of for cops to tamper with evidence in order to either get convictions or to cover up their own wrong-doings. You would have to be pretty naive to think a conspiracy to cover up evidence is unthinkable. Besides, most of the attempt at cover-up probably happened in the immediate aftermath of the incident, well before the FBI and state department were even aware that this happened.

There are some pretty suspicious signs in the behavior of the police in the immediate aftermath of Brown's death: them failing to properly report the shooting, them leaving Brown's body out in the open for several hours before loading his body into an unmarked SUV, the police force's general refusal to identify themselves or give their badge numbers. There are all sorts of signs that something is up and they have something to hide. So a healthy of suspicion towards their actions is perfectly reasonable.
 
I know this doesn't change anything about his murder. I still want the cop who shot him to be put behind bars for killing a kid. But I really am disappointed by this revelation. I'm disappointed by the police who seem more concerned about protecting their own and smearing a dead citizen than they are about finding justice. And I'm disappointed that this kid wasn't a better person. The narrative has literally turned to: "Maybe he deserved it".

The Ferguson cops do a pretty good job raising tensions there.

That to me would imply anything but a conspiracy to hush up and cover up the death.
 
The fact that he apparently committed a "strong-arm robbery" is relevant to the case and are details that definitely needed to be released. It does not indicate the cop is not guilty however. It does possibly provide clues for Michael's mindset, even if the cop had no idea he was involved in a robbery.

No matter when the information was released, people would have been calling it a character assassination. With the statement from the other guy's lawyer all but confirming Michael was involved in the robbery, it is appropriate to release the info.

What conspiracy? They released the name of the office less than an hour ago, with a clean record, because of course, and we still don't have the autopsy made by the medical examiner. I am not implying anything, stop trying to put words in my mouth.

Sure - but to do it at the same conference where they name the cop that killed him? Those are some shady shenanigans.
 
In this situation who does the autopsy?

Does the city have to pick or can the family pick? Does the family even get to see the results or do the police have to review that first? The family will get to use an independent specialist eventually, if need be, right?
 
I understand others on social media and elsewhere are suggesting the shooting was justified since he had robbed a store, but I don't believe anyone here has made that argument. Commenting on the perception at large is one thing but with regard to individual posters here it's a strawman.

Do you know what the ME's policy on releasing autopsy results is in this jurisdiction? They may be waiting on the toxicology results before releasing the report. I've seen autopsy results on suspected homicides take some time to come out before.

the officer was a six year cop, I do not know his age or previous work history. There is a pretty good chance that his "record" will be clear of anything interesting regardless of the occurrence of this shooting. My experience is that unless there is a significant issue, only verbal warnings will be given to LEOs unless a history is being created to terminate them. I can't fathom in this instant case the public not having access to a redacted view of his personnel file. I am not versed on the Missouri Sunshine law, so I have an uninformed opinion on that.

You do know what strongarm is, right? Attack the things that don't add up, but let's stop defending every aspect of his life. It's not ok to rob a store and YES, shoving someone is assault. Full stop, nothing to do with anything else that happened.

And I won't as sad as that may seem. I want to have some respect left for my family and I certainly don't want a divide because we are all close, but it has changed the way I think of them, my Step Father in particular.
