I question when devil's advocacy has ever been useful to a conversation or discussion.

It would have been useful to talk people down from their certainty that Iraq had WMDs. It's pretty much useful any time someone is certain and wrong. The more confident and prone to action people are, the more useful.

The latter being a rather important part. Since nobody here is really at risk of taking any dangerous actions, and the devil's advocacy is clearly unwanted, it does sort of mean that being a devil's advocate in this thread is sort of rude, hence my earlier apology. But it's certainly a great thing in general.

I'm being completely honest when I say I can't think of any situation in which an officer involved in a shooting would be allowed to not give a full statement and file an incident report immediately after the fact.

Even if he gives a statement and report now it will be completely tainted by all of the events that have transpired since the shooting. This case is just a complete mess and this is what people are protesting about, not the race of the officer. smh.

This is the main reason why I think The Warmth of Other Suns and The New Jim Crow should be mandatory reading for every American.
