Polytron Hacked?

I just want to point out how ridiculous it is that he thinks that cancelling his own projects is like some sort of punishment to people (projects nobody was aware of or could possibly care about). This happened before he was hacked.

Maybe - just maybe - these tweets are a "joke", a new form of speech meant to inspire laughter in those who read it. I know, I know, coming to this conclusion requires one to not think everything Phil Fish says is a vitriolic insult aimed at you, personally, but it might be a possibility worth considering.

So he won't ever lose/forget his bank details, SSN, tax file number etc. If he ever needs them, they can be found easily on the internet. Duh.

Are the numb-nuts over at 4chan looking at the time the zip files were created, or the se of FAT32 as proof of anything? Someone got into Polygon's Dropbox, downloaded all the data to their local machine, then zipped them up and made them public. That's pretty fucking obvious, surely?

Well their system drive would have to be fat32 in that situation, but I guess they could have done all their work from a bootable USB rather than their main drive making it easier to destroy the evidence.

It amazes me how thick the madness in some of these posts is. Person gets doxxed and the first reaction is 'They did it themselves' I mean WTF? The truthers have escaped from the dark corners of the internet and are flooding the world.

if the proposition that Phil Fish is using cancelling imaginary games as a punishment is childish, then I'd say not playing a game that you already have as punishment is probably just as childish.

Note: I never played Fez.
True.
I'll give it a go anyway. I don't have more than 2hrs per week of videogames, so like the rest of the ps+ stuff I'll just cruise through the intro then delete.

Or they downloaded the files to a pen drive attached to the system? Or their /home directory is on a FAT32 partition to allow for easy file sharing in a dual boot scenario. Or, as Oryn points out, they were taken from a Time Capsule backup accessible with whatever credentials they had. FAT32 means nothing.

Why does everyone assume it's Phil that did it (if you follow the belief of it being an internal job) ?
Aren't there other people working at Polytron?

I bet you believe Obama was born in America despite the proof of his Kenyan birth.

So people concluded the last bit of info about cloudfare was false now prove this false.

It's almost like a group of people dislike Fish so much that they would hate for him to be a victim and instead made him the villain.

Damn you Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish!

I have no idea what's going on. I know about the Zoe shit (she sounds like a terrible person) and Phil (who's always been an idiot) defending her. This pissed people off and hackers released all of his info? Now people are saying he's the one behind it?

haha, I love this movie.

But seriously guys, there are 10x more posts just making fun of it than posts that actually even discussed it. I don't know much about hacking, so I'm open to reading opinions on why people think it's true or not.

I don't even think anyone said it was true. Just discussing the possibility is enough to set you guys off. If we go back to your Messenger reference, we're actually doing what Dustin Hoffman is doing, and just looking at all the weird possibilities. No one drew any solid conclusions from it yet in this thread.

Given the context in which he tweeted those remarks, I'd say he wasn't trying to be funny or if he was, he failed miserably. These are the tweets that immediately preceded those:

It's a conspiracy theory but it doesn't make any sense. Basically they are saying that Phil opened himself up to identity theft and civil prosecution to make people feel bad for him and zoe.

That's seriously some mental shit and if it were true then he really needs help.

Why can't anonymous or 4chan or whoever the fuck ever use their powers against a target that is actually evil or shitty? Leak internal Monsanto memos or Koch brother emails or shit on crooked cops..

Instead they literally ruin the life of a dude because he said Japanese games suck, people shouldn't be sexist, and called a YouTube "celebrity" a gross nerd?

Can somebody please dox the doxxers? I really want to know who these self entitled little shit heads are.

The end result of this cunning plan being that, finally, people will realize 4chan is full of dicks.

I would argue that anon usually aims at corporations and not... just some random game developers.

Seriously I know people hate phil fish as a personality but there has to be a line drawn.

I thought this wasn't 4chan.

Or like anonymous or the Illuminati or whatever, does it really matter? The point is the public will finally know that they're shitty!

Because what is "evil" or "shitty" is entirely subject. No, a better option is for these people to realize these aren't "powers," but rather the equivalent of electronic battery and that this shit shouldn't be tolerated no matter the "target."

I've always found that tweet in particular hilarious. Like Jesus Phil do you think anyone actually cares that you cancelled a bunch of "special wecial Phil Fish projects" that literally nobody even knows or gives the slightest fuck about? I've seen five year olds act less petulant than this.

Oh interesting, because I thought this was more representative of the thread of his conversation, showing what actually "immediately preceded" the tweets you're discussing.

Um what do you think the primary impression of 4chan is? People already know it's the hellhole of the internet. Although I'd say that's only /v/ and /b/. Some of the other sections can be fun.

Eh, doesn't really change the fact that those tweets weren't made to be "jokes". My original point still stands, the guy thinks he's god's gift to gaming and it's one of the reasons people hate the guy.

That kind of shit scares the hell out of me. I'm a very amateur game dev, but thanks to my partner who is more involved on the social side, I'm already aware of these groups of well-known indie developers existing, some of which seem to have a certain groupthink mentality.

What I'm not really aware of is just how much they can actually touch you and possibly ruin your product and career if you disagree with them. Thankfully I'm quiet as fuck and will never bother with having a twitter to shoot my mouth off on. It also helps that I typically don't have strong opinions about anything though.

The culture around this industry is pathetic. I don't even think it's growing pains. I think it will always be this immature and sad.
The larger it gets, the worse it will be.

You are clearly missing the joke.

Krejlooc was being sarcastic saying that Phil Fish orchestrated a grand conspiracy involving royally screwing himself over for the end game of... what?

The only thing that would come of him faking a hacking attempt and blaming it on 4chan would be people would think they are assholes. Which would be rather redundant since people already think that.

You are once again going back to the question of motive. I will once again state that I'm not saying it's true, and I don't think it's even likely.

With that out of the way, smearing 4chan wouldn't be the only thing that would happen. He would get to be a victim, and gain sympathy - something which he has not had in great supply for the last several years. He would get to shift the conversation in indie gaming in a more effective way. Especially for someone that seems perpetually focused on victimization of different kinds, that can be a powerful motive.

Is that even likely though? No, definitely not. It would be a pretty extreme, and self-destructive thing to do. But, not 100% impossible, or without some potential extreme motivations.

My point was more to show there was a context to his tweets that your attempt to provide context to actually distorted. I don't think he feels he's "god's gift" to anything, I think he's just demonstrating the same frustration that a lot of people in this thread--and myself--often feel when stuff like this shitstorm brews up, namely that the gaming community is full of enormous shitheads we want absolutely nothing to do with, let alone spend countless hours slaving over the creation of entertainment vectors for, only to get continuously shat on at every opportunity. But maybe that's just my interpretation.

This kind of generalization is toxic as hell and I see it constantly thrown around whenever some bad shit happens. The actions of a few should never be used to judge other people, most of whom aren't even related.

I feel like it's the same kind of thinking that leads people down the path of racism or any other kind of prejudice.

I took those quotes from the "know your meme" page, which only lists those particular tweets, I wasn't purposefully trying to distort anything.

You don't seem like a very good person.

You post misinformation (out of ignorance, sure), but instead of feeling any kind of shame or remorse, you just double down and blame others for your mistake.

I don't care how much you dislike Phil Fish, that's not cool.

Put down your twitter account and take two steps away from the internet.

Could have avoided some much of this if people would just get off social media.

Unless you're a shameless fame junkie.
