The absolute best bits of the episode IMO are the ones where Clara and the Doctor argue and banter in the restaurant. Sounded like old lovers.
It's only gonna get better.

I thought it was very interesting how the Doctor insinuated he may have subconsciously picked his face to tell himself something. And that he thought he seen his face before.
Whu would he give himself Lucius of Pompeii's face?
I wish they would let him use the 'c' word. The Doctor almost went full Malcolm Tucker on that poor tramp.

I remember reading somewhere Clara doesn't fully remembers all of her alternate lives. Might be wrong though.

Oh, one little bit that was mentioned in the cinema Q&A: That tramp was Lis Sladen's husband.
Episode 4 is utterly dreadful, directionless and shamelessly an ego indulgence for Moffat, though some will probably like it in the same way some people seem to like Love & Monsters. .
He still visits my sister, once a year, every year. I wonder if one day he might forgive her... but there she is. Can you see? He trapped her inside a mirror. Every mirror.
[shows a little girl peering out from a mirror]
If ever you look at your reflection and see something move behind you just for a second, that's her. That's *always* her.
Oh, hogwash, ABSOLUTE hogwash. How can you even compare that episode to love & monsters ? How much of a hateboner for Moffat can you have at this point ?
Regardless of liking or not episode 4, calling it as such is so much into hyperbole it's not even funny.
Probably one of the better paced episodes and manages to scare you without even having a fucking monster appearing on screen, and with almost no reliance on CGI, all characters and dialogues. Now that may not be your thing but "love & monsters" ? Seriously ? Jesus fucking christ
Loved this. Capaldi's Doctor will take a couple of episodes to judge (which seems intentional), but he's really good in the part. Clara was the best part probably.
My favorite thing: the pacing. That was my major criticism of the recent seasons, but now we got a much better sense of the characters and environments, and the story they were trying to tell. Eleventh Hour was probably a better 'first' episode, but this was very enjoyable. Can't wait to see were they take this.
About the character at the end:I like the Missy-Master theory. All the speculation about a possible female Doctor in the future - why not make the Master a woman? Certainly allows them to do something new with an important and fun - if somewhat shallow - character. The Rani is a possibility as well of course. She's pretty much what I expected a modern Rani to look like. Still, my guess is that it's going to be a completely new character.
Can't wait for the rest! The show finally feels new again (even though the episode futured mostly familiar characters and a returning enemy - in a way). It'll be interesting to see how the character of the Doctor and the relationship with Clara develops over the next episodes. The different approach in tone compared to previous modern series is probably the explanation of Moffat's greater writing credit on most of the episodes, I'd say.
Wooh fun!
Why is the sound mix so bad on this show?
"Wow, why are you talking about an opinion on the show in the thread about the show ?"I think you need to take TV shows a little less seriously.
Hi Chris Hardwick!
As always, Strax steals the show.
I do not remember Clara getting the Doctors Number. When did that happen?
Whoa what?
Seems lie he is doing the before and after stuff for BBC America now.
Oh, not watching BBCA right now and stopped by this thread to check up. I thought you meant he was reading GAF lol
I absolutely loved the episode; Capaldi's going to make a brilliant Doctor, I can feel it.
One thing struck me about the whole face thing:When he was examining the cyborg-captain and determining the age of it, The Doctor mentioned how it looked "Roman". Could this be potential foreshadowing about meeting up with Lucius in Rome (after Pompeii) to figure out its origin, or could it just have been a throwaway line?
could not disagree more on this one. moffat indulges more with the paternoster lot. ep4 is where capaldi really gets to stretch his legs too.Episode 4 is utterly dreadful, directionless and shamelessly an ego indulgence for Moffat, though some will probably like it in the same way some people seem to like Love & Monsters.
Capladi is great as the Doctor. The throwbacks to Pompeii were nice, and I can't help but wonder if the Doctor is going to learn about the existence of John Frobisher later on.
Is it just me, or did the first android to lower its sword arm after Clara told JVS to hold their breath look a lot like Katarine Isabelle?
Can we stop spoiler tagging stuff that happened in this episode? It's already aired.
