Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

So I want to pre-order, but is the LL the way to go? I think I want a white one with the coloured buttons.

Well the only advantages the LL has now are:

- More comfortable hand placement since it's larger
- Better battery life by an hour on 3DS games
- Larger screens (if you don't mind a large loss in PPI)

I've seen people use the OG 3DS, and I really didn't like the metallic colours on it, which the LL uses. I would go for the normal since the design in my opinion looks much better with solid colours, it is a much more portable device, PPI is higher since the screens are smaller and has the potential for faceplates if you want to use them. I would still like to see real stills or videos of people handling them.

This would make using the face buttons extremely uncomfortable. Nintendo made the right call here.
What about this one though

Are there any XL or LL with the colored buttons as the non XL/LL ones?

I don't think so, but last year in Japan, Nintendo released a special 3DS XL (two actually), with coloured buttons.

Here's a video of one.

Unfortunately, those aren't available anymore, and besides, colours weren't the SNES's.

Let the developers and fans be the judge of that. Kid Icarus comes with a plastic stand because the lack of a dual analog stick makes the controls ridiculously awkward and difficult to control.

I was certainly expecting a 3DS revision, but for it to be announced so soon with most of my grievances fixed is fantastic, even if I'd prefer a proper second stick over a nipple for instance.

Though as someone who happened to buy a DSi as my first DS system back in 2010, I will definitely hold back on up grading my 3DS XL until there is a collection of games to justify it. For now I have a CPP for MH4U, so I will sit back and wait to see what Nintendo delivers.

Edit: great solution to the viewing angles for 3D too, would provide a greater motivation to use it since I wouldn't need to sit with my arms centered!

Am I reading this correct and they didn't improve the quality of the 3d screen? Its like the biggest issue thats been needing to be fixed. If they improved the PPI or resolution I would actually use the 3d more or even play more games on it. The current screen just stinks unfortunately and a main reason I stopped using my 3ds

i completed donkey kong land 2 on my gameboy a week ago

gotta work with what yorue given

Guys guys

Aren't Both systems constructed the same?

Sure Nintendo isn't making XL plates but since they should ALSO be detachable I would think that many third parties might just make their own plates

The XL and the small have different shells. The XL's shell is like that of the regular 3DS XL while the small has a new shell where you can slide the plates out.

It's just a shame that I haven't got a 3DS yet, and I was hoping to get one at Christmas time. Now I'll have to wait until Spring next year.

I wonder how the Internet would react if Nintendo unveils Super Mario Galaxy is on its way to the new 3DS.

If it's just a port, just more curious than the Xenoblade reveal. A Wii U remaster on the other hand would generate more excitement.

One of the best things about Super Mario Galaxy are the Motion Controls and IR Pointing - for example when you control Yoshi or shoot stars - so it would not work very well on the 3DS.

What if it's both Galaxy games?

Maybe it is coming. I predict the New 3DS future is littered with ports.

Xenoblade makes sense on a handheld because Japan is big on these types of games. And they're big on handhelds. So yeah.

I still think/hope Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 will be on Wii U at some point.

On thing that kind of bugs me is that my amazing Cyber Gadget 3DS XL Grip won't fit the New 3DS XL anymore :/ Same with my Circle Pad Pro. Fuck.

Some games will be for New 3DS only? Wow what a terrible idea. Not buying another 3DS again.

Only games not possible on the original 3DS and so far the only "exclusive" is a port of a years old Wii game. You can just ignore this revision and the very few exclusives it will get and it will be exactly like it never existed because without the new hardware those games wouldn't exist in the first place.

Why would you need 6 shoulder buttons and 3 sticks?

I hope not. I'm not a fan of Home Console to Handheld ports. I don't see why I should play inferior versions. People who never owned a Wii, on the other hand, might be more positive towards that.

I'd much rather we get true sequels to some of the best DS games out there. Radiant Historia 2, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia 2 (I'd also accept Symphony of the Night 2), A new Golden Sun, Metroid Dread, A new Advance Wars - that's what the 3DS needs.

But what about Majora's Mask?

This is what I'm worried about. If Nintendo is going to stop focusing on making new handheld games in favor of Wii U games, and just make their portable a port machine, I'm going to be super disappointed. But it would make sense for them to do that, since they obviously don't have enough resources to do both. I already own all the Gamecube and Wii games I wanted, so if that's the new direction it will really be pointless for me.

I just hope this is just a step in the right direction on getting Virtual Console for both those aforementioned platforms.

This is why need Iwata Asks. Really hoping for Iwata Asks: New Nintendo 3DS :<

Well..about that. There are going to be no more Iwata Asks. they quoted in their shareholder meeting that it wasn't the best way of transmitting information to consumers.

Also I expect a lot of 'dead' franchises receiving ports to be a test 'proving' ground for potential new releases.

I wonder if a video format would be better.

Just got a grey XL a few weeks ago (not my first one, though, owned one a year ago), was a bit annoyed with my unfortunate timing.

On the other hand, since this isn´t coming out until 2015, that´s AT LEAST three months I wouldn´t be playing Smash 3DS, likely more - I´m guessing february for the N3DS PAL release.

There´s simply no way I would have waited for the N3DS even if I knew this. I don´t like these "waiting games", I just wanna play stuff right now and not continually worry if there´s a new this or that around the corner.

And I don´t even care about Xenoblade at all anyway, especially not on a 400x240 screen. If the N3DS would have been significantly lighter or thinner I would be more upset, but more battery doesn´t really bother me since I barely take it out of the house anyway.

So, yeah. I always factor in the time I have already been playing games on a hardware with things like this. Waiting almost half a year to play Smash 3DS is just not something I´m gonna do. It´s great some people had the willpower to hold off on an XL for all these months, but really, the XL was such an improvement over the OG model (screen size first and foremost!) that I don´t regret buying (then selling, then rebuying) the XL at all.

Like all the other purchasers who bought 3DS's before this, they also took time into consideration; that they wouldn't want a new redesign and waited to play games at that moment. The only thing is, some people seem to be particularly concerned about the new line of 'New' 3DS games that are to be released. I would also say it's a lack of information symmetry and time relocation, since these purchasers were not taking into account past Nintendo release patterns i.e. the GBC and the DSi. Although, all three of these systems are marketed differently and have a substantially different number of potential and releases exclusive games. Therefore they may not have expected this kind of system that Nintendo is releasing, as with other Nintendo interviews that may have illustrated a different message.
