Eh, he lives 4 blocks away from me and I've seen his signs around town for over a year now. If all else fails I hope he can tussle.

Two pictures of a few things I bought lately.

Since I'm still waiting on a few games (like 15), I'll post a follow up in the next few weeks :)

Eh we're cool. He's not here yet but I met the building manager who saw me knocking like 3 times.

This is basically "my" neighborhood. I'm about 1/2 mile from my high school.

I'm going for a full Renovation set, I mean, I went as far as paying for Sol deace :p (Despite owning the superior SCD version)

Pfft... cartridge version has better music, you know its true.

Good luck, hopefully you'll get a 10 dollar Centy or Musha out of it or something. Lightening Force would be cool too. Snag that Battletoads Double Dragon for sure.

Cool. Spent 35$ and got Altered Beast, Heavy Nova, Sonic3 and Sonic Knuckles.

The guy was great. I felt kind of sad because he had a teeny one bed apt and it was floor to ceiling with videogames. EVERYWHERE. EVERY SYSTEM. Easily the biggest collection I've ever seen in person. But it was the entirety of his space. Bed on the side. LCD on one wall and CRT on the other. He also mentioned how he loves to have his son over who is six. And he had a lot of Super Famicom stuff.. behind glass even. I think thats kind of his main deal.

Surprisingly he hadn't even heard of GAF, but he referred me to Sega-Ages.

The Genesis selection wasn't great TBH but I was in a hurry and so was he. I don't think he pulled all the games out. He stepped out to have a cigarette and I was just knees down bent over crates of games. It was fucking awesome. I could kinda tell he's the type of personality thats only good in small doses but I've very grateful to have found him. He gave me two business cards and from what I gathered he makes all his money buying and selling used games. I took a peek in the kitchen and there were Sega Saturn games in the cupboards. I'm not joking!

Yeah when I was a kid but in my adult life only through emulation.

Now that I think about it I did mention how I was typically sticking in the ~10 dollar range and that I was only buying carts so maybe thats just what he showed me. Maybe he has more. I gotta go back next week.

What is considered to be a good price for the games by the way? I've noticed an auction where a dude is selling a console plus 58 games for $640, Now I live in Sweden so the prices are going to be a bit steeper here of course.

These are complete as in they have both instructions and box.

Mickey mania
The Jungle Book
Donald in Maui mallard
Fantastic Dizzy
Terminator 2
Golden Axe 2
Streets of Rage 2
Strider
Street fighter 2
Batman returns
Global gladiators
Columns
Gunstar Heroes
Wonder boy in monster world
Paperboy
The flintstones
World of illusion
Lotus turbo challenge
Sonic 2
Side pocket
Super Monaco GP 2
True lies
Micro machines 2
Zombies
Super off-road
James pond 1

The rest of them are just the game+box.

I can't technically afford it, but I'm wondering how big of a deal I'm passing up on here.

$640 is fucking ridiculously overpriced for that. Unless there's a few $200 games in the loose ones then hell never get anywhere near that.

^agreed...also some sexy shots on this page!

Well, here's a new candidate for "strangest thing I've found inside a video game cartridge."

oh wow...yeah i think it was alex kidd in enchanted castle i picked up last month that was clearly a former rental, had like 4 or 5 silver security tabs inside & outside the cart, inside had a much smaller thing that said something similar but i was like jesus how shady was this place

Yeah, no. In R-Type you can move around the entire screen, instead of being stuck to the floors and limited jumping that you can't entirely control, and you get a shield to protect you from the front, too! That does not make the game easy. Nor does the slide in Contra Hard Corps. Mastering the slide is challenging, and there are a lot of bosses in this game, all with different patterns and attack types.

yeah, no. R-Type is way harder and gives you far less room to move, both on bosses and even just a few stages in...real estate is at a premium in that game. I'm not at all saying Hard Corps is an easy game, but i will say it's easier than R-Type.

I'm about to ride my bike to meet this guy. .. so if I mysteriously never post on NeoGAF again you know what happened to me.

looks like it worked out - you got some good games & didn't die, yay!!

Bring a Menacer just in case.

always sound advice~

Surprisingly he hadn't even heard of GAF, but he referred me to Sega-Ages.

aw man who's he at Sega Ages? that place is far smaller than Nintendo Age but there's some great guys there. also what Saturn games did he have in the cupboards (haha)?

He who pursues two rabbits gets two rabbits.
Finished cleaning and testing all of my games. I figured I'd snap a pic of the Genesis collection as of today before I pack it away for the move next weekend.

There are still some gaps I've yet to fill, but I'm kind of glad that I've thinned out a lot of the fluff. Ignoring a few oddballs I keep around for mystery kusoge tournaments, anyway.

damn, six...you've got a lot've the greats in one pic there! now i'm just sad that no one out here does mystery kusoge tourneys.

Can anyone tell me how much a boxed Mega Drive II is worth?

Pal console in almost mint condition with two pads.

Box is in ok condition (wear and tear of 20 years, but it closes, only damage is around the corners of it), all the papers are in it (instructions and all that stuff).

5 games: Phantasy Star II, The Terminator, Outlander, Taz and boxed copy of Asterix (bundled with console).

We talk about game we find stupidly hard? Super Shinobi is one for me. I only make it through the first boss thanks to the magic, then the second level just destroys me. The double jump manoeuvre is awkward and when I managed to get to the second stage, enemies hit me into a pit. Infuriating. I'm supposed to go up to the level 3 to know what version I have? Fat chance.
I have the Spider Man copyright.

New arrivings today :

My full "affordable" genesis shmups collection is almost complete!

Only missing Grind Stormer, Robo Aleste and some euro shmups (like Battlesquadron and Xenon 2).

I'm not paying ebay prices for Eliminate Down, Panorama Cotton or BattleMania 2, so it will never be complete :(

Too bad Majesco didn't get their factory in Mexico to pump out a few more Crusader of Centy. I'd love to own an English copy, and had thought about buying it forever but never got around to it, and now it's rather pricey.

I've asked before, but it plays at the correct speed when played on NA Genesis right?

AFAIK yes, I've never noticed any black bars in the past (I used to have the french version).

I was using a Megakey though, the french version wouldn't run on a stock genesis

Well ive got the game genie as a passthrough, so i'd hope that would be fine. Works for my other imports (JP though).

One thing I found strange when testing all of my stuff last night was that the Game Genie itself seemed to be region-locked. The code entry screen would always come up with no issues, but it wouldn't load the actual game if I had the region switch on my Genesis set to anything other than USA.

Be careful though, 90% of the copies you'll find on ebay are in german, and sellers almost never mention it.

I suggest using ebay.co.uk and asking the seller to ship outside of the UK, they almost always accept.

I still can't believe that guys house last night. It feels like a dream. But I woke up and the games were real. Apparently I "have a guy" for old games now.
I kinda want to buy a PS1

Yeah but this is way cooler. I don't even know if he has a Playstation for sale.
Something about the way he just left me there in his palace of videogames while he stepped out for a smoke was just perfect.

When I left he got really really serious said "HEY! .. next time don't buy my all my best games!" and then started laughing. I don't know what his deal is though.

Does anyone have a good diagram of the older Genesis 3 Button pads? I've got a couple of spares now, and I'm thinking about adding them to my HSS-0130. I've found this guy:

gen_diagram1.jpg

But mine are actually a bit older... The buttons I can trace, but I'm just not sure about the 5V.

Here's what I've got:

Heh nothing worse than when someone gets ultra serious, but they are really joking...and you cant tell which is which. But at least you've got a local connect who doesnt seem that bad, so that should make things easier.

Is there any obvious way to tell?

Is there any obvious way to tell?

If you buy it boxed you can immediately tell

The english version has just "Soleil" written on it

The German version has "Komplett in Deutsch" at the top of the box, just above the head

The french version has "Jeu intégrallement en français" on the bottom right of the box.

If it's cart only, depending on the version, the serial number (bottom left of the cart) will be as follow :

English : 670-6148-05
French : 670-6148-09
German : 670-6148-10

You can also directly ask the seller.

Happy hunting!

haha, that is pretty awesome. i met a nice repro guy out this way but not a classic game dealer like that, congrats.

also don't know if he still has any, but i can recommend baphoment's PS1s as he chips them for region/etc, which is awesome.

I don't have any on hand, but if someone wants one I can always find them locally for pretty cheap. I do have a few chips on hand.

is it worth getting a sega cd model 1?

I think they look so good and i always drooled over it in the magazines as a kid.

IDK how many games i'd honestly buy for it but it just seems like a good addition to my setup.

I can vouch, hes doing my PSone. And of course he's hooked up lots of GAF with RGB powered up NES.

honestly, i do think they look sexy as fuck, but if i hadn't grown up with a near-launch model 1, i'd jump on a model 2. they're not ugly by my standards & work far better/are found far cheaper. i love the crap out of my current model 1 CD but half this thread swears it's gonna blow up any day now, and you don't really have to concern yourself with that much on model 2's.

Nothing beats the Wondermega 1/2 (X'eye in the US).
