That last scene with thestuff is actually the very limit to how corny the plot gets. And honestly, once you've made it there, everything else was decent enough to make it ignorable.power of friendship
What do those games have anything to do with Atlus and DLC?
Yeah, I mean it's not enough to completely discount any goodwill that came before it, but it is still pretty disappointing that so many JRPG's go down that route these days.
I just recently played through Fire Emblem Awakening and I could not roll my eyes further back into my skull hah.
Thanks, will do! I'll be honest, I'm not hugely familiar with either series. I have a 3DS so maybe I'll just check out the latest one for that.
Just a random though, what kind of 'sound' do you think this will have in comparison to Persona 3 and 4?

Hope's Peak Academy
Well they are exactly that, dialogue choices in social links have an effect, especially in P3 where you can "fail" an encounter and have a reversed relationship. Unless I'm misunderstanding your question.
lol, whos gona be the mitsuru of p5? there just has to be a mitsuru like character in a prep school
In the trailer there seems to be a lot of focus on phones. Do you guys think they're the new summoning Persona mechanism?

Persona 5: Shadows of Despair
Didn't Devil Survivor 2 use phones to summon demons? Never played the game, just watched some of the terrible show.

The quality is still bad.
It's bad so far.
During my time with persona 4 I never failed any social link or had an adverse effect. It always ended up leveling up the link almost no matter.
Maybe if I chose asshole replies I would have failed ? but then again I don't remember there being that many bad choices.
can anyone translate what this comic says?

But the thing is will she be as fabulous as Mitsuru.
Ive never played any games in this series but here's how I want this next game to be
Considering there are literally no other AAA console JRPG's on the horizon besides this to get excited about. (Thanks SE), I don't see how this is an unreasonable position.
I don't exactly have much to choose from or place hope in.
Many say this, but I'm not really seeing it. I see a lot of people using phones in the trailer, yes, but it's a modern Japanese city, so that's par for the course.
You should definitely look into getting Shin Megami Tensei IV. It's probably one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played; sharp, gritty and it's practically devoid of the tropes you're not a fan of. If exploring a post apocalyptic world, fighting demons and having to tough choices strikes your fancy, then you should definitely get this game.
It's the perfect game to jump into Shin Megami Tensei series.
One of the subtle things I noticed while analyzing the trailer is this little tidbit that they put in:

Could mean nothing, could mean something
In P4 I think you can only reverse with. But choosing some answers instead of some others will make ranking up that S.Link take longer.Naoto
In P3 reversing S. Links is more common, and not only from some answers you can choose but also from, say, accepting invites and cancelling them shortly after in favour of someone else, or not spending a day with someone for a long while.
i think that is a common thing on japanese trains

It's not just a japanese thing.
Sorry to ask, but what does "["waifu"/"husbando" crap = ban]" in the thread title mean? Isn't it just a way of saying which character is your favorite?

It just sounded really funny. For someone who has no real experience with a series talking about what a future game should be tonally or acting like the series wasn't a certain tone they want already. I honestly can't think of a cast of more grounded characters in games than the last iteration.Considering there are literally no other AAA console JRPG's on the horizon besides this to get excited about. I mean even quoting an ending you've never seen or have any context for, it's just funny.
I should play persona 3 then.
That sounds really interesting.
Social Links can, however, be reversed if players do not spend time with the respective people holding the Link, end up booking two holiday invitations on one day, or gave an improper answer during their conversations. The reverse effect will also continue to last until the protagonist reconciles with them. At some point a Social Link can even be broken, prohibiting the protagonist from fusing personas from the respective Arcana.
EDIT:
Also, can't understand japanese but can anyone translate?:

For the record, the thing the P5 protag was looking at in the trailer on the train was a little banner about bullying issues.
Actually lots of stuff here. Car accident, murderer running around, falsified evidence, tax raise. #Persona5

If nothing else, definitely clear that this'll be tackling a lot of familiar social issues. #Persona5
Yeah, pretty much this. I have yet to see it here, but on other sites I have seen some actual waifu wars and it just makes for an unpleasent visit for all users. Good on the mods for banning that type of discussion, if we can even call it that haha.I believe some people go too far and it ends up into a battle against who's the best. Not sure myself.
That sounds perfect to me! I will absolutely look into it some more.
Appreciate the response.
Aquamarine"omg guys isn't chie the best"
"nah yukiko is my waifu, chie sucks"
"rise doesn't represent a real girl, chie is so much more realistic"
"according to tyrone, people who like risette have absolutely poor taste in women"
Get it, now?

The mainline and DDS series also have better music.
Yeah, there are a couple of other instances, but it's nothing too big. Like you said, you felt like you wasted a day, so they probably didn't want to do it constantly. That is the one thing I do remember in my PS2 playthrough. Was trying to rank up Ai one day when Yukiko suddenly showed up and wasted my day. Had no other similar situations pop up though and it was never brought up again.
And I don't know, I'd rather there be at least small comments rather than nothing at all. Imagine it is really hard to pull of those variables together, but imagine the replayability if they pulled it off.
Be careful though. SMTIV fans usually "forget" to mention the really boring and repetitive battle system featuring pixelated cardboard characters/monsters and the insane difficulty spikes. Feel like mentioning because it caught me by surprise when I first played it. Not saying you wont enjoy it, just a warning really.
