Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

At the very least, I expect the clown car to change colors because of team colors being practically a necessity for every Smash Bros. character.

Also, don't know if this was posted yet but someone else is doing an AMA on Reddit about the demo and they confirmed that BONUSES ARE BACK FOR MULTIPLAYER!!

I am going to build a house out of the bricks I shit if this game does not have DLC that extends the roster size.

More than anything, if the leak is all of them... The empy space at the bottom is what makes me want dlc. I don't like how the CSS looks with that awkward empty space at the bottom, shulk on the bottom row next to 3rd party... it's just weird. Every CSS has had some rhyme or reason to it, but this one feels 'off' and it's the first time i've ever said that about a smash CSS.

and they're still charging $199.99 for it? Even with the revision right around the corner?

Revision hasn't been announced for US yet, so 95% of US consumers will have no idea that it's coming. This is going to be their XL for the holidays, for sure.

Zipzo is just some person that played the demo in Japan (who happens to speak English).

So nothing new on character count, I'm afraid.

And I'm pretty sure the demo roster = the start roster = that image from the eShop a little while back.

No matter what happens, I still believe the Chorus Kids and Ice Climbers were supposed to be in the game but cut at most a year ago, much like Mewtwo got cut further down Brawl's dev time than the others.

I can't see why else Sal's source kept mentioning the former (pretty easy to see now how he could've thought Chrom was playable, especially if Lucina's an unlockable or was still an alt at the time) and Ice Climbers feel way too important to be a character they cut right from the start. In

I can't believe anyone here actually uses "Sakurai bias" as an excuse for anything like it's an actual thing that exists and influences the game in any meaningful way. I'm sure it's tongue-in-cheek for some of you, but I'm starting to think a few of you actually believe Sakurai is out to secretly push his own characters while ruining or undermining the rest of Nintendo's characters in Smash. Wow.

Assuming all we've heard from the demo is true, "Sakurai bias" totally explains why Link has a Fierce Deity alt and why Olimar has four Alph alts. And why Bowser Jr. has the Koopalings as alts (if he does). And why Zero Suit Samus came away from E3 as one of the most OP characters. And why Meta Knight has gotten such a huge nerf. And why etc., etc.

(If "Sakurai bias" is a huge joke that no one actually believes and I missed the Internet joke entirely, then disregard the above and I apologize.)

Totally agree. But then there's just the issue that some people will get upset at the littlest things that don't even matter.

Like "why didn't they do this or why is it like this??"...is that REALLY gonna be bothering you when you have the game and are playing it? Who cares if Little Mac has more alts than everyone else or that Alph isn't his own slot?

Maybe people are just underestimating how much work and how much love is going into every single part of this game and that there are a lot of people to please.

I have to assume they played around with the size of portraits relative to the size of the 3DS screen and decided upon this layout as the best balance between discernability of character portraits and row arrangement.

Zipzo is not the leaker. He is really just SOME DUDE who went to the Smash demo exhibition today in Japan. The character roster is the same as the eShop pic. It is probably locked to that, so no one got unlocked during the demo.

OLD MAN OLD. Actually this has been done before. The Yokai Watch 3DS was $200 and didn't come with the game (which was actually out at that time).

Also on Smashboards Zipzo confirms the 16 alt thing and there may be more hoodie colors:

Mostly changes to his boxing gloves, and a couple with the pink-purple-ish hoodie on.
 
The CSS honestly looks really, really ridiculous. Melee felt justified - there was just one row that didn't match with everything else, and the blank spots were the random buttons. Here though? We have two awkwardly-sized rows, even though Sakurai could have easily made the roster look good while only having one of awkward size!

He hasn't leaked anything. He's just posting impressions from the latest demo. The demo only has the announced characters (minus Lucina).

What I learned:

3DS game is packed to the brim with stuff. All of these alts and changes, I can't even keep track.

Saw some footage, and man, it looks even better than the demo I played, voices are in, the little bar which tells you which song is playing, faster loads etc. etc.

I can sympathize with something like that; but I just mean people getting ridiculously nitpick-y. I personally don't care about any of the characters that haven't returned in any of the games, but I understand why people would be upset.
 
Real happy about the name change. It would have been weird if he was still called Olimar. Still, even if he's a direct clone I would rather have him as a selectable character. Movesets aren't as important to me as who the actual characters are. Maybe the layout of the character selection screen may have been a factor in which clones were given different attributes and which remained complete clones.

Hopefully Fierce Deity Link doesn't look bad. It does highlight how weird it is that Little Mac has such diverse alternates when he's pretty low in character importance compared to a good portion of the cast.

Hell no, an alt with a different name is good enough, I want the Character select screen to feel like fanservice, and it's already weird to have Dark Pit there xD

Valid point, and it's very possible, but I don't like that it still feels off. Maybe it'll be ok on Wii U version.

Are there any events happening in Japan on release day? I'll be staying near Akiba, so I plan to go there next week :) Just need an idea of which store is best to go to!
 
More information on Robin:

levin breaks after 7-12 hits i think. Air smashes feel, look and are awesome. When it breaks he tosses it and people can catch it and throw it at me. The window is really small.
Fire takes quite a few uses to break, super similar to PK fire but goes overhead and has a blindspot in the front. jab combo switches from wind to fire for one combo. Fire has knockback. Combo can cause fire tome to break
Thunder is super powerful and fairly hard to break.
Wind is a double jump that strikes below
Nosferatu was slow as shit
 
Link questions:

You played tons of Link? Duuude, gimme the full rundown. Some specific questions I suppose:
-The dair meteor, how is it?
-Is the Gale Boomerang still hella ass?
-What's his grab like? Does it still comically plop to the ground if you miss?
-How is his combo ability?
-Just anything else you can think of, really. How is he overall?

-it's meh, but it gets the job done
-no, it's amazing. Better than melee but worse than PM as I couldn't find any follow-ups
-no actually, it doesn't! fast recovery
-it exists, but it's not particularly special. I got some quick combos with his nair and bair, and could follow up up tilt with uair
-His bombs seem stronger somehow but I couldn't figure out how. I couldn't bomb jump. F tilt got sped waaay up and so did u tilt, they're really great now

Man the Wii U character select screen looked SO good in the E3 demo I got horny looking at the background fire animations.
