PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | September 2014

I'm not a performance-maniac, but the Vita version, at least at launch, was trash.
I finish the game con vita. No its not At all. Maybe ugly but never had an issue with the game At all.

Its been a long time since i recommend some games :

Buy

Hotline Miami.
Soul sacrifice delta.
Txk.
Persona 4 Golden.
Muramasa rebirth plus dlcs.
Killzone mercenary
Tearaway( vita)

I'm surprised and glad to be part of VitaGAF. Everywhere else, he's widely praised, so I thought I was the only one who had that opinion.

I have the same opinion. I enjoy my Sony stuff but I've never been a big fan of Yoshida. Just thought it was strange how now Souls games are one of his favorite and well loved series. He even listed it as one of his top 5 games last year on some interview they did with him. Just felt really strange considering his past with the series.

Last year was when I started to question if Yoshida is actually good at his job. That lineup was so heavy on PS3 content and outside of The Last of Us, they all severely underperformed. You'd think they weren't launching a new platform at the end of the year or had another one crying for support with that display.

Yoshida makes some good decisions (letting games like Tearaway, Journey, and Puppeteer exist), and he seems like a really nice guy, but I think he makes a lot of mistakes, too. I wouldn't be opposed to somebody else being in the position instead of him. I think he is probably one of the bigger reasons that Vita first-party output died out so quickly. I mean, I'd say that, for all intents and purposes, Vita stopped receiving real first-party support in less than two years. That's insane and disappointing.

Nobody? I fell in love with it at first sight, and imported the Asian version as soon as it came out. It was short sighted to assume it wouldn't appeal to western gamers, they made a huge mistake.

I'm not supporting him. I just say I understand why he wouldn't think it was worth localizo the game.

That doesn't change that in my opinion Sony, as a first party publisher has some duties like ensuring a healthy and varied catalog of games and they should have brought it even if it was a niche product that they thought wasnt going to sell that well.

Everything is his fault. He doesn't deserve that position.

Be happy that Bandai Namco saw a future in it.

He is a visible head of a company and I don't doubt he has made some mistakes, but the Souls problem has probably more to do with Sony's marketing team than just him.

E should thank that niche publishers like Namco or Atlus USA don't need to sell a ton of units to make a profit.

I don't get why he is so loved in the Internet, but I don't get why you should hate him. He is just a dude was has crafted a funny personality for himself on Twitter. He definitely deserves some (or lots) of criticism for how WWS treated the Vita, but Vita's biggest problem isn't their fault.

they could've, you know, looked at the response post-release in japan and the importing furor over the hong kong english version

Japan is really different than the West, I dunno about the HK thing. I'm not saying I agree with him though, I just think it's understandable why they'd think at first it was not worth the localization.

If they had the message written in the wall yet they don't react yes, they are stupid.

Mostly because since he spends so much time on twitter and any regular Joe can get a response from him, he's become a personal and human representative for the company. Not nearly as easy to get a response from someone in the same position at Nintendo/MS.

Personally I don't hate him but I also was never interested in SCE first party output either.

It's just that the game always had excellent english VA.. and the asian version was fully playable for English language users. There was absolutely no reason not to release it in the West.

I have no problems with Yoshida though, I think he's awesome.

On the topic of Puppeteer and Tearaway not selling, that is largely due to Sony's baffling release dates for them.
I don't know - regarding Puppeteer - I am having a hard time remembering kid-targeted games that weren't riding off a well known IP do well in recent history - at least in the west.

Right. Hindsight is 20:20, but did PS3 really need new games like Gran Turismo, God of War and Ratchet & Clank* in 2013?

* I know of the cancelled Vita port. Sony probably should have designed that on Vita first and then ported it to PS3/PS4. It's easier to port up than it is to port down.

So we've moved on from Shahid to Yosp now?

Shahid has gotten better. He's no longer doing vague hyperbole on Twitter and we've all acknowledged that he's an indie dev relations guy. Shahid does what he can. I just get the sense that he isn't given enough to do everything we'd like.

Yeah, I know that. I think it's cool that he is active on Twitter and likeable. But there is a line between, "this guy is cool" and "OMG :3 I love yosp <3"

The former is perfectly normal. I found the latter stupid.

Right. Hindsight is 20:20, but did PS3 really need new games like Gran Turismo, God of War and Ratchet & Clank* in 2013?

Yeah. God of War: Ascension and R&C should have been Vita games even if they were later going to release it on PS3 or PS4. And Assassin's Creed Liberation should have been delayed until February/March. I don't get why the hell would you release two games from a storydriven franchise in the same month, especially when one is a mainline entry and the other a spin-off. A 5-6 months gap between both would have been wise there.

Recommended luck to hit dark aeons? 200? Or should I just go 255? I just have 20 on my main ones lol

I went for 255 luck (sacrificed a bit of accuracy to fill Luck up) and all the DA were a joke. But iirc, you'll need a stat of 255 or more combining both Luck and Accuracy to be able to hit some of DA like Yoyimbo and Mindy for example.

Besides increasing your chances to hit them, I know you will also need high Luck + Evasion to evade some of the DA's attacks, especially Ixion's.

Just started it. This game oozes personality. Got my ass handed to me, though. Want to stick with it, but I can't even get past the first dude taking a piss. Gonna have to look at some videos and dig in with this one. . . .

Don't worry. Just keep at it for a while and if it hooks you, you are in for a treat. I kind of dismissed the game back then and I even got it for free on PS+. Once I got the hang of it, I couldn't get enough. I platinumed it and I can't wait for HM2.

I mostly agree with these posts. I used to be quite a fan of Yoshida, but little by little I realized that it was mostly due to his charisma. In the past 2 - 3 years he has made some questionable choices and the more I read his interviews and see his comments on both the industry and Sony's platforms, the more something tells me he is one of the main reasons Vita first party support and overall presence in major events all but died.

So we've moved on from Shahid to Yosp now?

I personally really respect Shahid. I believe he is one of the few at Sony who really goes way, way above and beyond for Vita. However, I DON'T like that he is over enthusiast, gives in to hype too easily and that he simply can't keep quiet.

I hope this is the correct thread, I didn't see a general one for the PS4.

I do not use my PS4 infrequently, but it seems like every week I'm having to download and install new system software. I leave it in standby with what I think are all of the appropriate settings enabled for auto download and installation. However, it never does. Is this not a feature, or some feature that is still pending?

So we've moved on from Shahid to Yosp now?

Never understood the hate against Shahid, I always thought to he did a good job even though he might have been to excited which would give people false hope. Yoshida on the over hand, It just look like every studio just do whatever they want to do, just look at the lineup of the PS3 last year against the PS4. Sly 4 would have been a perfect launch title in my opinion.

Assassins Creed Unity and Rouge will release at the same date. ubisoft can be stupid sometimes.

I think in Liberation case was even worse. Handheld are complementary platforms in the West. PS4/X1 aren't supposed to complement last gen consoles, they're their substitutes.

So it can make some sense in that case (we'll see soon) but in Liberation was even more stupid.

Big third party publishers don't really see handheld games as their own products. They don't get separate marketing campaigns or something like that. It's all attached to the big game and they share marketing space.

Completely agree. He just lets his excitement get to him and he goes and makes some PR mistakes on his Twitter, but I've always like the guy because he clearly loves the Vita and has at least been instrumental in getting a lot of games over to the platform, even if they are "just" indies.

Yosp has been playing Demons Souls the last couple of weeks per my friends list.
I'm guessing it's for testing and suggestions for Bloodborne.

Silly question time. I have Turtle Beach Earforce X11's and I had a sound card I used for my PS3 to be able to hear game audio and chat. It worked perfectly. I bought a PS4 last Saturday and the sound card is too bulky and wont fit in properly because the way the PS4 is designed. Not sure if they did that intentionally or not. Anyways, if I buy a sound card that will fit properly, will my X11's work with no problem? This is the one i'm thinking of getting.

I have to agree with this: all three of those games (along with Puppeteer) should of had PS4 version(s).

God of War really, really needed the extra development time to make the combat better and the difficulty more balanced (not to mention the extra development could of made its MP mode even better :D!).

Grand Turismo would have been perfect on PS4; the frame rate issues would have been completely gone, it could of taken advantage of the PS4's power and it would of filled the gap DriveClub left wide open when it was delayed.

Ratchet.....the whole development on that could of been better :l. Scrap FFA and use the time making that to give more content into Nexus. That would give team at Insomniac another year to polish the game up, add more planets to explore and even more weapons to play with :). The game being made ground up for Vita first would of been very smart; that way the game can run on Vita while at the same time giving them a very easy time up-porting the game to PS3 and/or PS4. It being a PS4 launch game would have been very smart; the system having a quality and solid kid-friendly game day one for the console.

I also say Puppeteer could of been on PS4 is due to the game potentially finding a stronger home on PS4. It being part of the launch line up could of given the game chance at bigger success; riding off the PS4 hype could have done wonders for the game :).

I ordered mine on the 31st. Was hoping it would be here yesterday, but it wasn't. Memory card is about an hours drive away as of the last tracking update so I really hope it arrives tomorrow

I ordered mine from SuperUFO with the cheapest shipping and living where I live, I just know it'll take a long time to arrive. I'm not particularly worried though, since I already deleted a bunch of games I didn't want to and had the saves uploaded with PS+, so I have space and time until it arrives.

The only way to have had a GT game ready to fill the gap created by DC's delay would have meant planning to release DC and GT at the same time already, which would have really been a stupid way to plan out their releases.

And that's before considering GT's legacy as a technical showpiece for each Playstation system it's been released on. And given Polyphony's perfectionism I doubt they'd want to be pushed into being a launch game.

That is a very good point :l...... They wouldn't want to rush there game just to fill in a missing game-type on PS4 (and even then, Need for Speed Rivals filled that gap for Sony during the launch) and the fact that it would be a big issue for DriveClub (if it was finished for the PS4 launch).

I'm done with DR2. The plot and trials were much better than the first. The minigames are much worse unfortunately. The sword rebuttal was really annoying, the logic drive was boring and the hangman's gambit was irritating.

If they want me on board for DR3 they will have to turn down the creepy pervert shit a lot. I don't need to see a character panties when she falls down, I don't need to read text boxes talking about moe/pedo/loli, I don't care that a character casually mentions she gets molested by her stepmother's boyfriend and seriously I really don't need to see theories of using your dick to move stuff during trials.

What? If I knew this I wouldn't have bough DR1 while it's on sale.

How is DR1 when it comes to creepy pervet shit factor?

ALmost non-existant in the first game except a "Spa" scene that you can get in Chapter 3 but it's a bit of a secret to get so alot don't end up getting it, since you have to have a certain item in your inventory to trigger it. First game isn't bad about it at all so don't really worry. The second has just been kinda throwing it out there though, and I'm only on chapter 2 haha.

Release Date September 25, 2014 (Thursday) Release

Wow, that limited Vita bundle is coming out on the same day as Another Episode. Damn, I was hoping I'd be able to get my hands on it this month.

Actually he's addressed what happened and his change of opinion towards the game after it came out before. The reason for this is that prior to release the last time he tested Demons Souls, even when it was almost final, atleast according to him, the game more or less still played like complete ass and it wasn't until super late in development that the game finally came together and played like the Demons Souls that got on the shelf. He calls themselves out for not re-checking the game and realizing what they really had:

Game Informer said:
Interviewer: I feel one of Sony’s biggest software mistakes this generation was passing on publishing Demon’s Souls in North America and Europe.

Yoshida: Absolutely! Tell me about it! 100 percent agree!

Interviewer: How did it happen? Was it as simple as this game wasn’t going to sell? How involved were you?

Yoshida: In short, that’s what happens to any game. Especially games made in Japan since the majority of them aren’t relevant to markets outside of Japan. There are always processes between product development and marketing in U.S. and Europe. All things considered, it’s part of the issue of making games in Japan. The game development in Japan typically is made horizontally where all assets are made in parallel, so it’s difficult to figure out what the final state of the game is going to be.

The western style game development is typically a vertical slice. So in the very early process, the team tried to create a small piece of the experience that resembles the final product. What happened with Demon’s Souls was until very late in the game’s development, we were not able to play the game through. There were framerate issues and the network was not up and running. We underestimated the quality of the game and to be honest, the media in Japan did the same.

For my personal experience with Demon’s Souls, when it was close to final I spent close to two hours playing it and after two hours I was still standing at the beginning at the game. I said, “This is crap. This is an unbelievably bad game.” So I put it aside.

Luckily, third party publishers, Atlus in North America and Namco in Europe [stepped in], and it really became a great hit outside of Japan.

We definitely dropped the ball from a publishing standpoint, including studio management side. We were not able to see the value of the product we were making.

Thanks for this interview, I had never known that the game didn't actually come together like that until so far into development. Crazy when you consider that what came out was not only of quality, but the best game made for the PS3 at that point and time. You can still see a few spots where the framerate still had issues, but the game mostly had played amazing the whole way through. Most of the framerate problems for me were on the second half of 2-1 and parts of 2-2.

You know i look forward all the new ps4 owners on Tuesday. I hope they stick around here.

Haha yeah PS4 sales are about to go nuts again tomorrow. I don't think I'm gonna be getting Destiny at this point though with all the other games I still have backlogged. My PS4 is waiting for BLOOOOD!

Bloodborne lol

Anyone here in west coast and has a Gamestop still open near them? PM me. Got these $5 off $5 off unique codes that you can use on say $10 PSN/XB1/eShop codes from GS. I'd trust a GAFer over anyone else on the net. Just asking if we can split the codes. PM me if interested.

Edit: if this is against the rules, ill take this post down. Sadly GS's close at 6PM here on East Coast.

Yeah, agreed, it's kind of surprising since the game ended up so good. Thank goodness Atlus picked it up.

I would post this in the buy/sell/trade thread in gaming community.

If sony announce a limited bloodborne ps4 console I will get it! Nothing wrong with owning two PS4's

PS4 will automatically download system updates, but it requires confirmation to actually apply them. It is by design.
