Ah yes, but 99% of us don't lend our voices (or more importantly, our vote) when those things do happen. My point was that when those more insidious (but ultimately more harmful) things happen, there is little to no reaction from the nation as a collective. We go for scandal sugar, instead of analyzing the more complex underlying issues.
Okay, but your premise is, "these bad things happen, so we should ignore this bad thing." That's a faulty premise as best.
Again, Ray Rice is not in jail. Ray Rice is not dead. Ray Rice, for all intents and purposes, has been fired from his job. It happens. But unlike many who lose their jobs, Ray Rice is in a position where he should have enough cash to live comfortably and decide what he wants to do with his life next.
That is not a travesty.
