I love the detailed statistics they have on the app.

It's really cool to know how much time I spent on every activitie. Really beat.

What a sham, the vangaurd pre order weapons are so useless. They can't even be upgraded, and at level 7 I found better weapons from loot and enemies.

So much for pre order bonus.
That how preorder bonuses should be and console specific ones too!!

Almost hit lvl 10 before quitting today. About halfway through the Moon. I'm enjoying it but there are a lot of valid concerns I think. Reviews should be interesting.... Biggest problem is the total lack of story and pretty empty world. I am really enjoying myself no question but even with all the backstory your actions feel totally and completly pointless. Interesting to see if there's some story later but for now there's really nothing and respawning enemies everywhere means that even short term progression through the world disappears straight away. Seriously though, the music is great.

Edit: Boom just handed in a bounty for lvl 10. Those bounties are serious exp.

I've uninstalled and installed the Vanguard Armory thing like 6 times now. Done multiple complete shutdowns, nothing is giving me this stuff.

The Vanguard Armory isn't free stuff, it's access to stuff you have to buy from a vendor (except for maybe an emblem I don't recall). It's the vendor just below the shipwright vendor. It's really low cost level 5 gear basically.

Usually, critics need a week for a review to be done.

Yeah, as I said, it makes sense. (Not that I was thinking it through when I pre-ordered the game. I thought Destiny would not be any different.) I guess I'll have to wait for a week before I can try it out? :) I don't know, tbh...

So, grain of salt since I played neither the Beta nor the Alpha, but I feel like I'm missing how Destiny is somehow not engaging on an encounter to encounter basis. In just five levels I've seen a huge difference in offensive capabilities, and I can't imagine that tapering off as I fill my Subclass skill tree, level up and find new weapons, and level up and find new armor.

I even played some Patrols and I don't see how that is somehow a pointless endeavor. Between Grimoire leveling, Bounties, and Enemy Bonus Levels, you're literally increasing at least four separate trees of progress with every shot.

Add on top of that that even going through an Old Russia base a second time, it's still an incredible visual experience, tons of opportunities to take in new details, etc.

Am I missing something?

How's the free-roam element to the game? I've been most excited to experience something where you can kind of go anywhere to do missions, upgrade and play as you please, maybe a little like Mass Effect. Is that a big part of the game?

Hmm. That's a bit of a double-edged sword in my opinion. You can do free-roam as much as you want. You could do it almost exclusively if you really wanted to. That said, the free roam is pretty thin. Lots of "kill these guys" or "collect these." In the beta, the had these random community missions that would pop up that were pretty cool. I didn't see any of them during my free-roam last night (patrolling or whatever they call it now) but I'm hoping they are still there.

Combat is really satisfying but it's really familiar. If you're looking for a futuristic/science-fiction/fantasy arsenal you're not going to get it here. I mean they 'look' it, but it's all the usual stuff you'd see elsewhere. The higher end perks/modifications you unlock through use will add some to that, but from what I've seen they are mostly just faster reload / more punch as your mag runs dry.

If you don't like running around and shooting shit you're not going to like this game. The missions aren't that varied and the game world is inhabited by things whose only function is to get shot in the face / glowy bits. This isn't meant as a knock, it just is. We've all played/seen enough games to know what the deal is with this. I'm enjoying it enough that I don't even mind the loot drops not being all that interesting so far.

Biggest annoyance for me so far is navigating the game to get to mission areas. Tower > LOADING > Orbit > LOADING > Mission. AGH.

Wolfenstein is still my GOTY so far.

It's kinda funny that you criticize one game for being a little generic and then another game that is the epitome of generic is your GOTY.

I'm just waiting for Santa Claus to show up.

I'm in class and I just got the text saying my
copy has arrived!?

AAGGGHHHH DESTINY!!!

Get your damn priorities straight. That class will be there when you return. You should be choosing your class, not in class. See what I did there?

I got 3 hours of sleep last night, cut me some slack. I swear I'm normally wittier than that.

So, no surprises? Cool weapons, combat encounters, mission variety, world-building, storytelling? This is a Bungie game, come on, they must have some cool things up their sleeves.

Any story and lore impressions? does it have any good/memorable characters?

Story feels really light, you have what feels like lot of gaps in play where there is no story going on as you have to do other side activities to gear/level up.

The story as a whole feels very light and really reminds me of MMO style story telling in that it's almost tacked on at points. Hopefully later in game they ramp up story stuff but early on hours it's not much at all. The story so far also kinda just feels like it's there to explain the game's world and setting

I really wouldn't classify Wolfenstein as generic. It's brilliance stems from the fact that it is taking themes that could easily be considered generic and turning them on their head in some really interesting ways.

I wouldn't consider Destiny generic either, though, so whatever.

This game should be played solo. it is as simple as that. the mission structures and overworld are far too bland. when I find myself having more fun messing around at the tower than the actual game, that tells me something. maybe more about me.

sigh

fucking wow.

No.

Nooo.

no no no no no.

(do not listen to this man about the soloing)

I haven't played the Beta for this and don't actually know much about Destiny, all things considered. Is this a definite buy? I do own all the Halos.

I'm really enjoying the game but I don't see how it isn't going to have one of the largest backlashes around. The line at GameStop was much larger than I expected and the hype machine has been huge. The game is solid, but imo worse than something like Borderlands 2. It seems to have some very big shortcomings and I don't see how the general public isn't going to be disappointed in the end. The main draw seems to be the rpg mechanics, but the skill trees don't even seem that deep or varied. Lvl 20 being the cap is also oddly small. I'm lvl 7 after 3 hours. If I'm "done" with a game of this type after 20 hours or less then that would be a shame.

I had different expectations for Wolf than I did for Destiny. Wolf was a reboot of an existing franchise. Also, I had a lot more fun with ALL of Wolf's weapons and their alternate fire modes than anything I've found in Destiny so far. Just a few little things that keep it from being GOTY for me. It's unfair, but Wolf being a tighter experience and having a better presented story (IMO) make the a huge difference for me too.

As I said, I'm enjoying the shit out of Destiny. The weapons not being neato lasers pew pew thing isn't as much of a bother as the loading screens.

EDIT: oops. He made a spelling mistake to mean the opposite of what he wanted to say. I change my stance to "Yes, play with buddies"^^

From my experience with the Alpha/Beta I can say that this may be the worst advice I have seen yet on this thread^^

Yeah, apparently this game needed a good amount of people playing online to fairly review the game.

I wouldn't be surprised if this game got some lower ratings than expected. It seems expansive enough, but it looks like missions, the overworld and gameplay itself could get boring.

Is PS+ needed for everything multiplayer related or just PVP? Wouldn't mind having people pop in on Patrol mode or while playing missions.
