Would MGS1 (the PC version) even look that much better in HD? The best I could see them doing without completely remaking the game would be maybe throwing the Twin Snakes art assets on top of the PSX engine or something.
Anybody got good screenshots of what MGS1 looks like in 1080p on an emulator?

MGS 2-4 look great simply by rendering them at a higher resolution. MGS1 would need serious work on it to look decent.

Would take Twin Snakes- 3. 4 was a let down. Worst experience of 2008. Fallout 3 and GTAIV were much better games. 4 is a good game, just a bad MGS game.

MGS4 is the only one that might encounter any sort of issue getting ported because it features a PS3 controller in the game and also has some sort of Apple advertising dealio. But that's prolly not even an issue.
Yes MGS1 is excluded from the HD Collection. But it was in the Essentials Collection as a PS1 disc and in the Legacy Collection as a downloadable voucher.
The assumption is MGS1 is too old to re-release without significant reproduction of the art assets. Generally so far publishers haven't done HD ports of games from as far back as the PS1/N64 era.
Still, it's not quite as bad as something like RE2 or FFVII, which use pre-rendered backgrounds. Almost everything in MGS1 is real time except the codec screen, which probably wouldn't be very expensive to re-do in HD.
Actually the most expensive part would probably be re-recording all the tutorial voice acting to accommodate Xbox buttons and possibly keyboard bindings if the controls are different from the original PC version of MGS1.

Once Metal Gear 1+2 is remade for current generation, we'll have enough on both sides of the timeline for a Solid Snake Collection and Big Boss Collection.
