Well, this is a pretty little thing.

AND it came with all the pre-order content. Even the Gamespot exclusive sparrow.

Edit -- dear god, it glows white. Hnnnngh.

Similar first impressions as the beta, but with a PS4 flavor.

1) The gameplay is fun. Very fun.

2) I still hate ADS.

3) Quite the graphical leap from the 360 version. Nice intro to next gen.

4) The story set up is really quite poor. It's the exact opposite of Halo: instead of dropping us into a situation of immediate urgency and letting the story unfold through that context, we get the backstory but no context for our situation, and no sense of urgency to our mission. It feels like a big narrative misstep right out of the gates.

Just did the first mission. I'll probably play at a pace of 1-2 tops per night for a while as I'm working on some projects at home.

Just reached lvl 20 and finished the weekly heroic mission and that was not even enjoyable. Enemies are ridiculously hard, took about an hour to complete.

Might I ask why you hate ADS?

I still love this game...

But even SNES Final Fantasy games had the decency to do a pallet swap when reusing sprites. I've fought the same exact knight with a different special name so many times now. Why?

I have the feeling that due to Bungie marketing destiny as sich a game changer many people bought the game without realising that the is not their gerne. Now that they play the game they feel disappointed because it is not a wow,it's not borderlands, it's not Planetside,...

It is a bit empty and I do not yet understand why Bungie planned this as an online only game with so low player count and limited interaction. But as a coop shooter with leveling it works.

Unfortunately the story doesn't get any better

This game is awesome. But I have issues with some of the MP maps, they just seem way too god damn big for only being 6v6. Especially one of the Mars maps when playing Capture. Anyone else feel the same way?
Also is there a way to kill the vehicles easily? I been playing some maps where people are riding the Pike through the buildings and I have no idea how to destroy them before they can kill me.

Other than those two small things, this game is really fun to play with a full fire team

Is it me or are anything outside of Auto Rifles and Shotguns completely pointless for PVP? Got a Hand Cannon that does 111 damage and its useless in PVP because I can be killed so quickly by Auto Rifles.

Dude, try the sniper rifle or scout rifle if you are into doing long range for Capture. But yeah you have to use the Auto Rifle and Shotgun combo if you are playing free for all.

I am level 12 and still no cape for my hunter...what gives lol?

Also, what's up with the hit detection in PVP? Is it the servers stretching or permanent issue?

Gonna drop some pics before I sign off for the night.

Heres me!

Venus storyline was genuinely good! They provided their exposition in a painless fashion, there were actual characters, it all tied together quite nicely. I'm assuming it's probably too early/late to get a fireteam going for the Venus strikes (both are showing up for some reason :P), so on to Mars!

Except the mission with the Fallen. If I hadn't picked up and read the Hunter fragment from the Grimoire, that would have been just as bad as the worst Moon and Earth missions.

First things first, buy a cloak/band from any faction of your choosing so you can start gaining rep to unlock their armor/weapons.

Start farming Vanguard Eagle-Vanguard Wolf runs, they guarantee Vanguard/Blue gear with +Light points.

Where are these faction merchants

Does your level and gear matter for crucible matches? Or just iron banner matches?

It sort of matters, but it's balanced somewhat. For example, having a pulse grenade is pretty useful for titans. Or the aftermath upgrade on fist of havoc. A lot of people walk right into it, so it can work strategically to defend control points or corner the enemy. Even though the damage done is normalized, the additional abilities matter.

So I got to Level 22 and tried that Weekly Heroic Strike (the Sepikis Prime one)

Jesus Christ.

This was obliterating me when I tried at Level 21, only slightly more survivable at 22. To make it harder there is no match making, either you've organised your own fire team beforehand or you're on your own. I did it solo and bloody hell it was hard. A single burst from an enemy weapon can take you to critical health.

The hardest part was the first no-respawn area, where you fight off three waves of baddies as your ghost hacks a console. The only way I was able to do this was to stick to these little alcoves in the corners. A lot of the Fallen in the first 2 waves go to pre-ordained spots and stay there, making it easier to deal with small groups one at a time using cover. I have a Fusion Rifle that does 209 Arc damage and that was a godsend for dealing with Fallen Captains and Stealth Vandals. Everything goes tits up when the Hive turn up on the third wave since they spawn right behind that alcove. Luckily there's a similar spot on the other side of the room. Machine gunned the Wizards as soon as they appeared, then improvised the rest and survived.

I think I only survived because I play a Titan Defender. Some of the abilities are a godsend. Obviously there's the Ward of Dawn which just gives you some breathing room in a tight spot. But the Defender's melee ability, Disintegrate, saved my life more often. When you get a kill with it you get a barrier added to your health/shield bar which makes you very hard to kill for a few seconds. I also had the perk running with it that makes all your guns reload very fast while the barrier is active, which is incredibly useful for reloading machineguns which you usually need a bit of time for. This approach with Disintegrate sometimes meant I was dead unless I could kill an enemy with a melee however. Which is an odd dynamic, you're on the verge of death and your only chance for survival is to run up to an enemy and punch it in the face.

I finally managed to beat the third wave and had to take a moment. I didn't realise I'd done the hardest part already. I died at least 8 times trying to do those three waves and only died one other time while fighting Sepikis. The Devil Walker was boring but easy. I beat it in one life by abusing a safe corner and taking potshots at it's legs, the only times I had to deal with the Fallen was when I went to get more ammo.

I mostly stuck to a corner room in the fight against Sepikis too. The Fallen were slightly more of a threat here, during the Devil Walker fight they never came to my little spot while I was shooting the tank. Really though the Sepikis fight was very manageable. Let out a big old "YES!" when I finally killed the big purple bastard. The whole thing was very intense and I nearly died a bunch of times during the last fight, but it's done, I did it alone and I felt like I had to lie down immediately afterwords.

For my trouble:

3 Vanguard Marks

150 Vanguard Reputation
(though I wear a New Monarchy sash so I got reputation with them)

3 Strange Coins
I hear the vendor who takes these only appears on weekends

And a completed bounty, giving me 4000 Exp. and +100 Vanguard Reputation
again more New Monarchy points

***

For what it's worth, I haven't played as the other classes but I don't think I could of done this as anything but a Titan Defender. So many ways to cling on to life in a pinch.

Gonna ask again, are there any imbalanced classes in the game? Like, warlock > vanguard or whatnot?

This thread is a buzzkill. I play Destiny and have a blast then come here to talk about it and its mostly negative.

nothing wrong with that at all if that's how most people feel then that's fair.

I hope most of that stuff can move to the review thread if that ever goes up.

and before someone claims I want to be in a positive echo chamber you are right. I enjoy the game and want to talk about what I like not argue about it.

Yeah, definitely too much negativity. I didn't expect it to have a brilliant story, it's a sci-fi shooter, not an RPG despite having some progression and loot elements. I just was happy to see something with a lot of co-op that is very popular and relatively polished. :)

Sure, keep drinking the cool-aid. Saying there should be no criticism is hilarious.

I said hate, not criticism - and that is in regards to the user metacritic. I share most of the criticism this game gets. The game is getting hate for reasons not related to criticism.

On a side note, I find doing missions that are a level the same as your character ends up making them far too easy. Prefer doing them so the mission level is above your characters, Eg doing missions on harder difficulties. So much more fun if there's at least some challenge. Never dying or needing to be revived, or having to revive someone else, frankly becomes a tad dull.

Awkward...went to do a Vanguard Strike, and I'm in the loading screen of the ships flying towards the light....for the past 3 minutes...

Mhm. Me and my friends, a long time ago, were like, 'Only real gamers do Hard Modes!' So since then no matter the game, we always start the hardest mode.

Seems to me this game will live or die with patches and expansion packs for the future relevance of the game talking a year or 2. The base game is solid but if the developer support is weak or not welcomed it migjt suffer.

Well then I'm screwed, cuz I'm level 14 and only one mission in on the moon haha.

I've sort of noticed this too, it is getting harder though. The first few missions seemed really nerfed compared to the beta, maybe it's just me knowing what's gonna be there though.

I assume it won't last 2 years, by then Destiny 2, or whatever they'll call it, will be out. There will be DLC though, they're not in it for charity. :)
