Sadly, that's accurate.
 
I do think reviewers are being a little harsh. It's not a game changer, but it's a fun game. Tight controls, nice PvP. My only complain is the 6 vs 6 multiplayer, I think it's a low number even for last gen titles.

I think the meta will increase. the big publications are still with reviews in progress and I get the felling that they will give more 8's and 9's and the game will end with 80-85, a solid score.

I think Bungie always presented Destiny as a FPS, MMO and a RPG while it is actually just a FPS and the things it have in common with the others are minimal and reviewers (and everyone else too) never got what exactly was the idea with Destiny.

I'm sure I would complain about content... IF I MISSED OUT ON THE OTHER 6 MAPS.
 
I think that the worst backlash are going to be the Raids. I'm going to say it right now,: Raids will be EASY. Some people will complete all the raids the very first day and post the guides that any people with normal reading comprehension will understand.

All the claims such as "Raids are too hard, you need to play with frieds, that's why there is no Matchmaking" are pure bullshit. Is just a technical limitation they have because it is a way more complex matchmaking that just put togheter a bunch of people. Raids will have a save state ( Boss 1 down, chesh 1 opened, boss 2 alive, etc etc). So a matchmaking need to consider all those things before make a fireteam. Added to that that if this feature is to "play with friends".... in a game with ZERO social features. Yeah right.

That's why the weekly Strike doesn't have MM eather... why not? Because the save state.

Hope Bungie put their shit togheter.
 
I don't put as much stock into reviews as I used to I mean I am loving NHL 15 and Sims 4 and they have been shit on pretty hard. As for Destiny there is just way too much competition in the fps genre that you better smash it out of the park or you get buried.
 
I'm having fun with the game. I like the PVP and the strike missions I've done.

But I totally get the low review scores. The campaign is a travesty.

I haven't noticed smarter enemies on higher difficulty levels just ones stupid ones that take longer to die. Is your experience that much different?

Titanfall is refreshing when you play it. That's why you can't compare the two multiplayers. They did a lot with the mechanics and thus the content suffered. They have fixed it in patches. Destiny took Halo and removed the customization and equal playing field that made it famous.

Neither reviewer seems to understand that bosses have weak points. Has it occured to you that if it's a problem for a reviewer, it could be a problem for a player? If they aren't understand that bosses have weakpoints there will also be players who who won't realize that. The same to your difficulty point.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze , Dark Souls 2, Mario Kart 8, Shovel Knight, Bayonetta 2 (SOON!), The Evil Within, Super Smash Bros...sounds like a pretty good year to me.

Heh. The heroic strike is a an entirely different matter. Punching dozens of head shots into
Captains and making hardly a dent. I guess I know how it feels now.

Have you tried using a hand cannon or scout rifle? Take your time and place your shots. Practice on lower level content. If you can get accurate with it a good hand cannon can trivialise content.
 
I've not seen anyone mention it but IGN's Destiny reviewer, Vince Ingenito recently said in his review in progress write up:

"The real endgame though, will likely be the raids for PvE players, and the Iron Banner for PvPers, but neither of those features are available just yet. The latter won't be out until October, but the first raid, Vault of Glass, opens in just five days. I'd like to experience it before posting my full review to see just how much possibility life after 20 truly holds. If it can really make people coordinate, and utilize their class' unique talents to the fullest, and Bungie gives us a steady stream of them, they could be just the thing I need to keep me glued for the near-future."

Where's the journalistic integrity in that?

Waiting five days, after the product has been in the wild for three days, to include information about a game feature not available at launch, in a review?

Ridiculous. Review what's in the box.

Again. Does any of this take place in a new location? New planet? New area on old planet? Going to happen in the same places you've been countless times before. The small world of Destiny is small and repetitive and it's going to take a lot of work to make it feel otherwise.

Bungie can add 200 more horde mode defend this or that missions and it will continue to become more painful each time.

Did they really complain much about the lack of PVP maps though? So they got the number wrong, their complaints seemed to stem more from how unbalanced it all seems since the classes were balanced around PvE. The number of PVP maps doesn't seem to be their main issue with that game mode.

That is what I'm saying, yes. I've had multiple instances of the enemy flanking me and grouping to push at me when it knows I am vulnerable.

They are reviewing for the average consumer. The average consumer has not been playing games for decades. So they are reviewing the content the average consumer will experience. The average consumer is not going to be playing on hard where the AI acts differently. If the AI is dumb as rocks on normal and bosses are bullet spongy, that's what's going to go in the review.

Metas don't increase by 10. When more reviews are added they get lower 9x out of 10. Keep your expectations in check.

Oh yeah, like many gamers, I usually forget about Nintendo's games when thinking about games released this year as GOTY contenders. Could totally see a Nintendo game winning this year.
 
After playing Destiny for a while, I still don`t get why they made it always online. Sure, there are some social stuff in it, and it`s fun, but they should have given people the option.

Yeah I played the moon strike with two friends last night and that shit was hard. I've been running the whole game on hard mode with my two pals and we have an easy 7 hours in and are on the second mission on Venus. We do explore to find all collectibles and stuff but that is fun to do. I just don't get the hate. This game is a blast to play and pretty challenging.
 
l'll start this post by saying that I haven't bought the game out of fear that expectations were too high and this game was another victim of being overhyped. I did play a lot of the alpha and beta though so I have some experience with the game and what was offered during that time.

I've read a lot of this thread and it seems that there are some pretty bad things about the game such as the AI, story and mission variety. I just read Polygons review and it says there are only 4 mp maps and 3 modes? People complained about lack of content in Titanfall but Destiny seems to just have the bare bones.

The general consensus on the art and sound design is that they are fantastic and the gunplay is good. I don't think that's enough if there isn't a decent mp offering and the end game as of now is severly lacking in new things to do.

I was afraid that the game would turn out like this and I really hate that I was right. I was hoping this game was going to be something truly special.

You can't really blame reviewers for putting out their reviews now instead of waiting for the content to trickle out of Bungie. All the encounters in this list are DONE, coded and printed into your discs. They just are waiting to flip the switch on them. If there is some game-changing revelation within the content they're gonna start trickling out, its not present in the current game they are reviewing now.

It's like saying you can't review an MMO until they are 6 patches into the content schedule.

Bungie will undoubtably say these reviews are too early and sites haven't really gotten to the good stuff yet. Well, they haven't because the developer itself hasn't provided the good stuff yet. If they were so confident of their product, just release the endgame content at launch and let the game speak for itself. I'll say this though... if their promised "hook" that no one has experienced yet is an addictive loot grind, then who the fuck cares. Loot grinds have been around online games for almost two decades. There is no revolution here.

That is impossible to do as a person that has so much gaming experience. By setting difficulty higher they would be closer to the experience new players would have on normal.

Ever here of a "handicap" in gaming/sports?

Considering even non boss enemies go down quicker when you hit there weakpoints, and your damage turns yellow when you hit something important I see no way anyone could miss that.

Bullshit. I really think some shit's been going on between Activision/Bungie and the big game media outlets. They should have opened the servers early (they could have, game is just 3/4 more of the beta) and had the media all ready for release. They have enough co-workers to play with full parties and other journos would populate the world so there's no excuse of "well not enough peopl... bullshit!"
 
The Polygon review was my impression of the game from the Alpha on the PS4 and it's why I haven't bought it.

Disappointing as I am a massive Bungie fan but I guess they were always going to struggle to follow that up.

Ugh. What a way to reduce the validity of your review. "The game hasn't proven its longevity in its initial form, so I'm going to wait for the DLC to see if that happens". What?

I agree with this 100%, It feels like a imbalanced Halo. The beta seemed balanced at the time because everyone was lvl8 capped.

And who cares about customization if everyone ends up looking the same.

It' makes the PvP more enticing and personal. I also like how it's all part of a larger whole.

Even this is arguable. The Halo campaign's might not have RPG elements or looting, but it does have much better mission variety and vehicles to change up the pace.

Destiny I'm really shocked by how there isn't really any vehicle missions. I don't know. The whole thing screams of a poor mans Halo but still a good game. I'm surprised they didn't go the whole hog and have some awesome vehicle sections.

I wonder if Sony is upset with the gamers responses to this game/reviews? Such a shame really. I hope they didn't pay too much for the exclusive stuff. Might just need some free content patches etc to sort it out
 
Now that I kind of understand the game better and accept it for what it is, I'm kind of warming up to it. Still only level 8 and haven't done any strikes yet, but I can see myself casually picking this up and playing it every so often.

I do wish regular enemies provided better experience or higher loot drop rates, though. I honestly would enjoy just traveling the overworld and fighting mobs of enemies if the incentive were there.

Yeah. He should publish the review, and update it later if the Raid proves to be significant.
