They even bothered with the different shipsx which now are just pretty placeholders.
Placeholders?! Psh. More like the coolest loading screens EVAR! /s
What the fuck were they thinking there. Destiny missed opportunity #741

Some people are just more forthright in their opinion than others. Hell, anecdotal it may be, but I know me and all my friends and cousins etc are greatly enjoying it, including the GAFers and other forum members I'm playing the game with online. I've yet to play online with someone who is disliking it. Though granted opinions on PvP have been more lukewarm.
Also if it takes 20+ hours of garbage content to get to the "real" game, then the game is garbage. Gamers don't owe it to the devs to waste 20 hours on unfun content for a potential promise of having fun. If you want the average consumer to get to the "real" part of the game, a good game would have the parts up to that point be fun as well.
Somewhat random Q: For owners of both, which do you like better... Destiny or Borderlands 2?
I think it's reasonable to review a product that is available for purchase based on what someone will experience in the game if they purchase it that day. Yes, some people are okay with playing through some drudgery with the promise that endgame or future events will be fun, but it's useful to know whether that is what I am in store for before I buy a game.I didn't buy Destiny and don't plan to, but it drives me nuts that critics are reviewing a game like this so early. First week reviews of online games like Diablo or MMOs are ridiculous regardless if they're full of praise or scorn. Then you watch the video reviews and you see they reviewer isn't even tackling end game content, but discussing it as if they're experts (Gamespot's Diablo 3 and RoS reviews come to mind). I'm sure they read threads on forums like this and just rephrase what they read.

Hellgate: London had deeper gameplay and better replay value than Destiny has.
No, I am not drunk. It is fact.
GEE, MAYBE IF YOU WANT YOUR GAME TO BE REVIEWED WITH ALL OF ITS CONTENT, YOU SHOULD HAVE IT ALL READY IN ONE, NEAT PACKAGE ON LAUNCH. YOU KNOW, LIKE OLD TIMES.

Two weeks later: it's a shame that some Destiny reviews are coming out before our first DLC mini expansion. We are just getting started.
As I said, anecdotal and rather pointless, but just my personal experience.
They filled up the initial level bar. That's not the only leveling or loot system in the game.
I'm surprised that there hasn't been more of a meltdown on GAF about how unexceptional Destiny is. Maybe the OT is just moving too fast for me to notice.

Yes you can spend hours grinding to fill up on special loot, but there is no hook for making someone want to do it. How many times can you do the same strike and hope they may or may not give you loot that is relevant to your character.

Just saying.
I think the climate has soured towards overhyped games, largely thanks to Titanfall and also Watch Dogs earlier this year. Destiny deserves what it's getting, and maybe it's the worst offender, but I'm thinking the press is finally taking a stand against this shit. Now that the advertisement dollars are drying up anyway.

If you have done all of the missions on the hardest difficulty, what is the point of grinding more loot or levels?

Why do companies release half-assed products then cry for pity? If your day one release isn't up to par, delay it. Don't stamp your feet on Twitter and insist no one should review your product until you can improve it weeks later.

The real shame is that there are people at level 20+ already with not much to do.

Not based on the current GAF census.
That 3/5 is higher than I thought judging by Jeff's comments during the BombCast
This game in a nutshell, sums it up very nicely.
There is much modification potential in this gif

One can dream, right? Unfortunately I don't think that's how it works. They do enjoy being king makers, even if its not totally a conscious thing for all of them.
Evolve seems to be the next candidate. Personally I think the COOP sounds great, but there's already a visible hype being put behind it that it probably won't live up to. Whether it carries all the way to reviews, who knows.
Bungie definitely oversold the idea and scope of this game, but I'm enjoying it for what it is.
It actually reminds me of the BioShock Infinite were were promised vs what we got. Good, buy slightly disappointing.
But, yeah, its fantastic graphics often serve to make the game's mechanical underpinnings that much more disappointing. There are cool little flashes of brilliance in Destiny, but a lot of it feels like a game designed by people who weren't sure what sort of game they were designing. Is it a loot shooter? Sort of, but the loot isn't very good. Is it an MMO? No, but you'll occasionally encounter other players out in the field. A story-driven shooter like the Halo franchise? Sure, if you don't mind digging through the developer's website to find those little bits of lore. Clans? Again, they exist on the website but don't surface in-game in a meaningful way. The pieces are there, but too many of them feel malformed or half-realized to make Destiny recommendable. If you're interested in this sort of game, you may wish to wait and see what Bungie does in the months ahead before spending any money.
Halo 3, as a co-op shooter, is waaaaaaaay better. The enemy AI is far better and the encounter design comparison would just be hilarious.
Regarding that tweet, he says before their first events go live. Why in the hell would you not have a launch event? That just seems silly.
Another exactly. If i've done it once at the highest level or hell... if i've even just completed it before... why make it part of the "gameplay" to redo it again and again in order to progress?
