This isn't a matter of when it's easiest and best (for reviewers) to review a game. That's not my or your problem. (unless you are a game reviewer?) This is a statement that the traditional game review can only review "what's in the box at launch" is silly though, considering that I've read a few open ended reviews in my life and for some games, it's warranted to take such an approach. Such things exist. Set in stone reviews with firm numerical "ratings" are not always helpful, and are frequently a lazy proxy to sum up an initial opinion that may not even be relevant by the time I get the game.
