I am actually quite liking the game so far and it's about what I expected given how Bungie handled Halo. However, projecting what the end game is going to be like I already think:

- After beating a story mission once with a character, you should be able to go back in with matchmaking for a strike team with the difficulty scaling to characters for better drops. Maybe have general classes of drops themed to each planet.

- I've seen a lot of good teamwork by people even without voice chat in Strike matchmaking so far. I can't imagine how the Raids are going to be so special and complex that matchmaking wouldn't work for them.

- There should be an option to create a pick-up fireteam when you encounter someone in the field, and that should scale the level of enemies that spawn around your team.

I'm starting to get the impression that the bullet sponge bosses are a thinly veiled attempt to hide how short the actual strikes are.

Yeah I've rolled a hunter that I'm leveling now after going Warlock at launch. Was running the earth Strike and I just didn't have the will to finish it again. Each boss takes about as long as the entire dungeon should.

Jeeze, everything i read about end game/dungeons makes it sound like it was designed by someone stuck ten years in the past back in vanilla WoW. No matchmaking (for most things), drawn out boring bosses, sketchy rewards, raids made for a really small % of players, etc.

At the same time though, I will admit some bosses who were bullet sponges before were no longer annoying to kill once I got better weapons and higher levels.

I don't get the design.

Also, I think the worst boss has to be that Archon Priest bastard. Man oh man. Though I fought him at level 22 when he's 24, it was like I was throwing cotton balls at him the whole fight.

I still haven't found where to get the Monte Carlo and other PS exclusive stuff, where exactly are they?

They're just rare. I've seen reports of Hawkmoon from Crucible and Monte Carlo from Engrams. The armor sets drop in strikes, I've gotten mine from vanguard playlist stuff. They're blue though...

I'm assuming Hawkmoon and Monte Carlo are obtainable via any method that can provide exotics of their types.

Thanks, oh well... Time to grind for them :(

What? Strikes give upgrade item? o_O

All I have been getting is pure tosh that I need break down to parts, no gear progression at all for few days now. Thanks RNG loot that is worse than D3 vanilla!

:(

I've been getting pretty good gear, then again I only just started getting rare stuff so they all seemed better than normal. I'll likely hit a plateau soon

I've gotta say, the bullet sponge bosses really make grinding the strikes a tedious chore. As a long time MMO player, I have no issue with grinds, and even can enjoy them, but the strikes in this game are a testament to tedium.

I feel like adding phases to the boss fights would help with the monotony. Not only in the bosses actions, but maybe the environment could get more hazardous? It really isn't exciting doing the same thing for 15-20 minutes straight.

I really, really want the Hawkmoon =/

Bought one of those exotic engrams and lucked out, got one for Hunter. Downside is, since it's a chestpiece, it overlaps with the only legendary I have for my class lol. Need 2 more coins so I can buy Red Death and finally have a weapon higher than Rare.

Just think about how the actual strikes are constructed. They are a couple of rooms and maybe a hallway, where you have to fight wave after wave of trash mobs in the same couple of rooms then it's the boss that takes an eternity to kill. The actual strikes are extremely small in scale when you actually break them down.

Anybody willing to team up with me because I have a really hard time beating Phosgoth, in the strike mission Summoning Pits. My PSN ID is Carbonoxx. I'm LVL 13.

last night i think i got dropped from 4 or 5 matches in a row. this morning, 2 more. jesus. back to pve for the foreseeable future i suppose

Ah dude, don't even get me started on how ridiculous the thinking was on the endgame. Making an endgame that only a minuscule percentage of the player-base will be able to participate in is never a good idea.

I wish I could skip cutscenes. It's such a stupid oversight that they force you to watch it again on another playthrough with your second character.

That makes fucking sense, I decided to replay the story mission The Dark Within on Earth at level 24. Mission took about 6 minutes and I got 3 uncommon weapons, 2 uncommon engrams and 1 rare engram.

More than I did on Strikes at a lower difficulty and 5 times longer to complete and they were harder.

How did you farm for enough strange coins? is it just doing that strike?
some were from leveling up cryparch, most were from blue engrams (more accurately, almost all of them, if not just all of them period, from blue weapon engrams) i. e. ID a blue engram and instead of weapon/armor it gives you a strange coin.

I needed six this afternoon, to get the gauntlets, i got two from blue engrams, three from weekly strike then the last one from a blue engram i picked up during the strike.

worked out nicely!

What is the best way to get strange coins?

For one-offs, the weekly strikes provide them once per difficulty. After that, it becomes a matter of luck and preference. Personally, I think either the Crucible or Nexus farming is best.

The Crucible has a chance of giving coins outright and a chance at engrams which can provide coins.

Nexus farming can get you around 10 engrams in an hour which have chances at being strange coins.

Pick your poison =p

Besides that, public events can also provide them or other materials.

They need to add some crazy variety into the look and style of armour. I want some cool looking stuff, not just space armour.

That's true. You can clear a strike up to the boss in a few minutes depending on how many of those PROTECT GHOST objectives you run into. Then you get to the boss.

Instance bosses in MMOs don't even take this long compared to their actual levels/instances. Stuff like this makes me wonder if Bungie ever did play any MMO. I mean, it's obvious they played Borderlands but that's not a MMO and has its slew of problems as well

Loot is so sporadic it's not even funny. I've seen more legendaries drop from level 3 fallen than I have endgame content. It's unreal.

It really surprises me that there's barely any platforming involved at all. As I understand the Raid is gonna have those kind of elements, but why not the Strikes as well?

I mean, the only challenge with every Strike boss is to not stand in the line of fire for too long. In each and every one of them you peek out, shoot a burst, then reload and regain your lost health. And then there's the occasional enemy backup that you have to deal with.

Why not make the boss battles have several interesting phases? One phase where you move around and try to hit a weak spot, another one where there's some platforming and agility skill involved, and then some last phase where everything is combined. There's such a lack of creativity that it's quite astonishing actually. It's like they designed it so that it should be rushed and grinded.

I need me a matte black shader set already, tired of looking like windows 95 in high contrast mode, or black/grays in christmas ornament level shiny.

Trying to do "The Last Array" mission on Earth, constantly getting kicked five seconds in. Peter Dinklage won't shut the fuck up. Level four and already frustrated.

Honestly. Got 2 legendary engrams drop, they both decoded to sub lv 20 blue's. The double roll is dumb. 1 for legendary to drop, second roll is the chance for it to decode to one. Blue is a blue, Purple is a purple. Its so dumb.

This has happened to me every single time I've gotten a legendary engram. And it's always blue shit I don't want or need at that. Really discouraging.

I just googled to see what the Hawkmoon looks like... WANT!

I have a cool blue handcannon, love it, now I want this one too lol.

let me know you psn name and I'll add you!

I haven't done the 26 part myself, might be a bit too hard with one groupmember being lvl 22. I would be in later though if we find another lvl 25ish guardian.

My psn is greenymac. Same as my handle here. Ill be back online in about 15 minutes. I really need to do the weekly strike.

1.) This occurs already but at lv. 20. Every day a new story mission becomes a Heroic Daily story mission where the difficulty is ramped up. There are choices for lv. 20, 24 and 28. It will show Lv. 24 - Impossible, dependent on your level. I'm at 21 now and the lv. 24 says Very Hard instead of Impossible.

2.) supposedly there is no guide whatsoever. So the players will have to figure out how to find and get into the Vault of Glass themselves. I guess they think Mics will be necessary for that. And then the level itself is supposed to be the top challenge requiring a ton of teamwork. We shall see.

3.) You can do this, except for the scaling enemies part. They could create an Explore / Patrol mode that is just for that fireteam I guess, like a full level that is instanced. Not sure if feasible though. But if you had lv. 20 fireteams scaling enemies to their level and then leaving and then a group of lv. 10's coming up behind em. They'd get squashed. But I get what your saying and it would be a cool idea.

I feel like Bungie should have let Activision's guys at Blizzard help design the MMO elements for them because in its current state, the game fails miserably where it tries to be an MMO and/or loot game. When you have the kings of MMO's and online games at your disposal, use them (if they didn't)!

How do I view my vanguard rep progress?

In the Vanguard Playlists, do you keep earning marks for every strikes you do in a playlist? If I play 3 strikes in the Vanguard Wolf playlists do I get 15 marks or is there some kind of limit on marks per playlist?

Two questions I'm sure have been asked a million times.

  1. Is the stuff on the left of the map temporary missions? One is a daily, another is a weekly, but the top is just a Skirmish with no indication of how long it lasts so I was kind of confused.
  2. How exactly do you level up beyond 20? The in game pop up just told me to find weapons with light in them. The fuck does that mean?

Raids are probably going to be like several Strikes strung together. Maybe with some rest stop bonfires every section. How many players per Raid? I am hoping they split teams up to do different objectives.

You'd think with Double Jumping, we'd have a reason to use it.

Talk to vanguard quartermaster or one of the class vanguards and hover over the circle in the top left to see rank progress.

Also you get marks for every strike, but there's the 100 cap for a week.

The skirmish one I think is also daily, but it's like, every day one crucible mode has an XP bonus. Not a big deal compared to the other daily/weekly stuff.

Level 16+ blue gear has a Light stat. This stat levels you up further at certain thresholds while you have it equipped. You gotta get high level blue or better gear to stack Light and get more levels.
