Sirens was probably the best George Perez's art has looked in recent times, i feel like he found a colorist that suits his style well. Writing-wise, something about intergalactic space women who are time displaced and come back together to fight off a giant evil? yea k. it's pretty wordy too, which is fine and i think is that mentality of getting your money's worth out of the pages, but I'm not sure i learned a whole lot about this world despite all the worldbuilding. It's bimonthly though so maybe i'll continue?

WHAAAAAT?

Nick Spencer has an Ice Town????

ahaha omg

I was thinking about joining your fireteam yesterday!

T.M.N.T : Turtles In Time #4 of 4 was an ok issue. It felt kind of flat too,, like that issue was just a big lesson about life lol. It was a decent mini series though.

Worth it to get #1 alone, brilliant issue. Agree with you on #4 though, was a bit compressed. Felt they did well to tie it into the main series though, hope we get more eventually too :)

I'm out on Wicked and Divine. Just not my cup of tea. My wife gets it so I can still read it if I choose too.

Deadly Class tonight and then done.

I've been on the fence with Wicked and Devine. I like it but just not grabbing me like #1 did. We shall see how I feel after I read #4 today.

You saved the best for last,, I thought it was an awesome issue.

Avengers #1 100th anniversary: It was okay, didn't find the story interesting and the artwork, while i like Stokoe, not much stood out.

So I just read the last 9 issues of The Long Halloween in one sitting. Not necessarily because it was terribly gripping, but mostly because it was a super quick read due to the shallow writing. I enjoyed it for what it was (some great Tim Sale art holding up an average plot with bad dialogue).
And in fairness,
I did NOT see that ending coming. That was pretty good.

Also, the mass amount of super obvious red herrings got pretty annoying.
But yeah, it was worth the time to see that great Tim Sale art.

Hahaha. Perfect.

Hahaha. Perfect.

At least it had the proper Two Face design, I don't understand why some artists like to draw white hair on his "bad" side for the modern age, I prefer it to be near-bald and with scraps of hair.

Put me down on the side of "I think Long Halloween is really overrated" from that conversation a few days back.

Oh I need some info on Ennis' Punisher. iirc he has done

- Marvel Knights, which starts out with 'Welcome back Frank', which is hear is pretty important
- Punisher Born short series
- Punisher MAX

It was only recently I realized he wrote 2 long runs on the character, and that the (OOP) omnibus only covers the Marvel Knights stuff. So I wonder: is everything a must read, both MK and MAX? And should you read MK before MAX? Because that's a whole lot of Punisher. But I'd probably love it since Preacher is one of my favorite series

MK is pretty fun and has a lot of dark humor. It's very similar in tone to Preacher. MK is probably my favorite Ennis Punisher stuff.
MAX on the other hand is just pure serious. The stories are really great, but it's very dark. Not dark humor like MK, just dark.
I loved both of the runs, but MK is probably my favorite since I usually prefer fun over serious. I'd guess you would prefer MK as well since you love Preacher, but I still definitely recommend both.

Also, it doesn't matter at all which order you read MK and MAX. They're 100% separate and have absolutely no bearing on each other.

I would probably start with Welcome Back, Frank since it's excellent and totally self-contained. It's one of my favorite arcs of anything.

Also, if you wanted to start reading MAX, you'd be fine just buying one volume at a time, since each 6-issue arc is basically self-contained (I can't remember completely, but the first two arcs may tie into each other a little bit; everything else is almost completely self-contained though). So yeah, don't feel like you have to buy the whole run at once or anything.
It's been a while since I've read Marvel Knights, so I can't remember if the arcs are self-contained or if there's a continuous story, but either way, there definitely isn't some super complicated meta-arc to follow, so you wouldn't have to buy it all at once if you didn't want to.

So yeah, in summary, I'd suggest starting with Welcome Back, Frank, and then just buy the first volume from whichever run you'd like and go from there.

You could just read the Max stuff, there's a pretty huge tonal shift that came with the ability to do more stuff. Besides, Welcome Back Frank hasn't aged that well.

I personally don't think it feels dated, but I'm also a fan of Dillon's art (I know some people don't care for him much), so that could have something to do with it.

There's a certain era of Dillon that I really love, and WBF is probably at the tail end of that. But in general Ennis humour tends not to be my bag. It also just feels a little quaint in retrospect after the more serious comics.

Ah, gotcha. I really like the lighthearted/dark humor Ennis stuff, so I enjoyed it a lot, but I see where you're coming from.

I actually thought Dillon never looked better on Jason Aaron's PunisherMAX run. I think it was Matt Hollingsworth's colors, like those baby blue eyes he gives Bullseye.

Hollingsworth is one of the best colorists in the industry IMO. Super excited to see that new Remender book he's coloring next year.

That's one of the things I really wanted to talk about once all of Hawkeye is collected. Lot of smart coloring throughout the whole run, but specifically how on the LA adventures, which hop between different locations/flashbacks/flashforwards all the time, but its always very clear and coherent because of effective/thoughtful lighting effects to give them all their own tone. They all look different and distinct, visually and emotionally.

Fellas, I'm gonna ask for a favor from y'all. I signed up to do a comic convention here in Austin showcasing as an artist. I realized I don't have much original art to sell, so I'm gonna be doing some real live drawing again.

If you were to buy original art at a comic con, what kind of art would you be looking for and what characters would appeal most to you? I think I can do about 5 pieces for the con and I'm just wondering what people might be most looking for.

I whipped up a Batman one last night. I think someone might like enough to give me money for...

I totally love that Batman. Excellent job.

In answer to your question, I'd probably say as long as you're drawing something you enjoy (AKA something that ends up looking cool and unique), there'll be an audience for it. There are fans of every character.

Groot was real big at a recent con I went too.

Can't go wrong with Harley Quinn

Hipster Batgirl , Groot or Spider-Gwen are all hot right now.

Great art by the way.

That Batman is sweet.
I always like to see stuff like the Rocketeer or Iron Giant over whatever character is trendy at the moment, it sets you apart. Really though, just draw whatever you dig, there's bound to be an audience for it.

Bendis is writing a sequel to Daredevil: End of Days starring Frank Castle:

http://behindthepanels.net/stgcc-2014-punisher-end-of-days-coming-from-bendis-mack-and-sienkiewicz/

Last month, word started circulating that a follow-up to Brian Michael Bendis’ Daredevil: End of Days would be coming, and it would be called Punisher: End of Days. Artist and writer David Mack has revealed more details about this forthcoming volume at the Singapore Toy, Game, and Comic Convention (STGCC) earlier this month.

Our correspondents were on hand at STGCC on the 6-7 September, where Mack addressed the audience on the future of this book. A sort of sequel to Daredevil: End of Days, it will follow the story from the point of view of Frank Castle aka The Punisher.

Mack, who is currently writing the series with Bendis, said that DC Exclusive artist Klaus Janson will not feature on the series, but instead it will be fully painted in the style of Elektra: Assassin by none other than Bill Sienkiewicz himself.

Punisher: End of Days is a working title for the series, and there is no release date scheduled as yet.

Finished Hawkeye Volume 1. Really enjoyed the first 3 chapters but 4-5 were kinda eh.

The artist changed and 4-5 were a little too superheroy for me. Is volume 2 more like chapter 1-3 or 4-5?

Also, started on Gotham Central today. That's really good so far.
