I may need to find a way to get a 980 imported from 'Murricuh. Maybe Smokey can help a brother out. Pacific coast -> postage is cheapest I'm assuming.

800 AUD is a biiiit steep.

For the Aussies, PCCaseGear have a 98o and a 970 up for sale already. $800 and $519 respectively.

Looks like I'm getting one or two 970s. Fuck the 980 price.

Welp, you weren't kidding. And that is just for the reference model. I shudder to think what the non-reference pricing will be.

I was looking forward to get 2x 980 to replace my 5850 :-\

I cynically expect the 980 to be 550 or 600 euros and the 970 to be 400-450, and I will probably be right. (you can quote me on this when the prices are revealed)

If you want the best experience, the fastest speeds, DirectX 12 support, and image quality-enhancing features that just work, the new GeForce GTX 980 and GeForce GTX 970 are your best options. Pick up your very own GeForce GTX 980 for $549 MSRP from your favorite e-tailer or retailer starting Friday, September 19th, or the GeForce GTX 970, which starts at $329 MSRP.

Right on the money for the 980, the 970 actually comes in cheaper (and since Nvidia tends to do $1 = 1 euro I expect the EU prices to be about the same). Good call!

Amazon ships select hardware components internationally, including GPUs. I imported an EVGA 670 back in 2012; express shipping was USD$18.32, which is likely cheaper than what anybody here is going to be able to do.

How about customs? Thinking about getting a 980 from the US and even if it's 600$ incl shipping I'd save about 100€. But if it has to go through customs (19% of price + eventually additional fees for hardware, not sure) it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

Guess I'll google.

Here in Australia you don't pay a cent unless your package exceeds AUD$1,000.

Woah, I see. Lucky.

Here are some DF benchmarks:

and Overclockers too.

The 970's are coming in at the £250+ range.

I'm a twin frozr fanboy, so those are singing to me.

Are there any good 970 benchies out there as DF was focused on the 980? I want to know how my 1080p setup will fare with things.

Nice, I'll check that in a moment, seriously not getting much work done today!

I have my eye on the 980 so I haven't really been looking at the 970 benches, sorry.

Many thanks. I have a 660 (which was just below the one time "standard" of the 660Ti), so it might be a time to up my game.

EDIT:

Must dig into some noise stats. My big love of the Twin Frozr comes from it barely registering an increase of already quiet fans when under load.
