Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

Noctis kingdom is the only one who holds the last crystal so maybe the other countries are underdeveloped in a way. I prefer all the different and crazy vistas/locations it's better than having something grey and dull.

this has been a point that nomura has stated since the begining, noctis country had the last crystal which made them look more advanced and "real worldy" compared to other nations

I meant in regards to a WW late 2015 release it's not feasible, but I do expect japan to get it next year =]

Japan/Asia's stretch of 'holiday season' pretty much extends all the way till Christmas, and for Chinese regions, even further till February because CNY.

Whereas the typical western holidays cannot afford to miss Black Friday/November timing.

It's been an honor gentlemen.

Also, this shot could easily pass for Forza Horizon.

someone should post that massive concept image of the kingdom

doesn't it make you feel wet just looking at it, you know cause all the water

As a super casual FF fan this looks great to me. I haven't played a game in the series in many years but consider me interested. Are the hardcore FF fans out there as impressed?

It's like they don't have a cohesive vision for the game world, or any sense of artistic direction. You have NSync riding around in their shiny vehicle driving on pristine highway roads with no evidence of other traffic while giant dinosaurs and other crazy things are casually strolling about. They hop out to fight enemies in medieval-themed armor which might be cool if it were a steampunk setting or something, but there's no evidence of that kind of thing anywhere else.

Usually you have an art director or whatever that has full control of making sure the visuals are thematically consistent. This game is all over the place. It's like there's no one in the team saying, "no, you can't add that into the game because it doesn't make sense". Considering the absurd development time and SE's desperation to just get a product released, maybe they don't even care anymore.

The vision as far as we know it has always been "a fantasy based on reality". I think it's refreshingly different. It's exploring what it would be like for the familiar to mix with the unfamiliar. Even many of the monster designs seem to draw many inspirations from real world animals(mammoths, orangutans, rhinos, etc).

It's different, and in the context of the story I'm sure many people will understand the vision. Either way I'm glad it's not just another steampunk or medieval RPG. I'm also glad it's not another science fantasy anime wonderland.

I think FFXV's world makes a lot of sense.

I'm not. The car is horribly juxtaposed to the fantastical creatures they're fighting.

It looks like Derek Zoolander and his pals just dropped some acid and went on a road trip.

88 pages.
The hype is real
Equip 100 sleeps to your attack and he wont even hit you. =)

I'm actually playing FF8 on my psp currently stuck in CD2 where there's like a timer for to reach a location.

Doesn't sound like you've played many FF games tbh.

As far as vision goes, just ask yourself, what if the world we live in now has magic, monsters, summons and all that Final Fantasy jazz?

In this very world we live in, we have...

We have...

Sure, rules of nature demand rationality out of the world we live in. Soldiers wear the most suitable outfit to battle, because wearing armor in real life is fucking stupid.

But what if magic existed that nulls these differences away? What if we could wear metal armor and not be hindered by physics demanding you be slower than kevlar?

Real life is less cohesive than you think. That's why we have cultural gap and differences, even in a globalised society.

My only worry is, Is this road trip scene taken before or after Noctis's Kingdom got attacked, because if it's after it just seems a little too relaxed for someone who just lost their home.

From the radio it sounds like before, a sort of getaway behind everything goes down.

However, I won't be surprised if parts of it was taken from after the event because they talked about how they're far from home.

From the looks of the trailer it looks like there is some kind of peace negotiations going on so I'd like to assume that his kingdom hasn't been attacked yet.

Thanks, I was just a little confused about that, that's good then. I like the whole road trip idea to be honest. hopefully we get an Airship later in the game.

Lol
Have you played any Final Fantasy before. Just because they dont follow a trend doesnt mean that they do it bad.. Actually thats exactly the opposite! Final Fantasy games were always ridicously strong at the art direction and fantasy world part, thats why theyre reference.

Not necessarily, they were talking about Noctis's dad still being fine, that doesn't exclude Lucis getting attacked.

What we know so far, assuming all lore stays consistent:
- Lucis gets attacked
- Noctis meets Stella at the gallery
- Accordo gets attacked
- Noctis's dad is at Accordo

There's a few possibilities, but I can see the following being the opening of the game...

- Noctis's dad is away at Accordo for negotiations, Noctis is back home holding the fort.
- Home gets attacked
- Noctis fails to protect home, runs away with his bros.
- Drives to Accordo to tell dad about the attack
- Accordo gets attacked

Alternatively is...

- Game starts at Accordo
- Accordo gets attacked.
- Noctis goes back to protect crystals.
- Failed to prevent the invasion, runs away with his bros.

Yeah. Welcome to Final Fantasy, by the way.
My point isn't that there shouldn't be motor vehicles in the game, it's how out of place they are in the environment.

Cloud drives a cyberpunk motorcycle in a cyberpunk city. The small truck is used for work in a small village.

The protagonist and his k-pop entourage drive a fucking Audi and fight giant dinosaurs. It doesn't fit thematically. Feels like a mish-mash.

There are so many contradictions in your argument I don't even know where to begin.

...it's fantasy. Pretty sure you fought creatures close to what you see in this trailer in those games. It's a nice, new looking vehicle. You aren't balking at the flying cube things they showed. If we are going by your logic, they don't fit either.

But they come from a city? where there are cars?

Give it a shot.

That's the issue. It feels strange seeing something that has almost no fantasy spin on it, inside a fantasy setting.

It's like seeing a modern tank in a Medieval fantasy story. It stands out. However, if we were to take the idea of a tank, and make it medieval thematically, then it wouldn't feel so jarring.

FF7 ain't cyberpunk.

Neuromancer, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell...

That is cyberpunk.

I think they probably could go a little further in distancing it from the way current cars look. It doesn't bother me as much as the boy band characters, overall, though.

How does it clash thematically? There's no rule that fantasy elements such as monsters or magic can only exist on a medieval or steampunk setting. That's the cool thing about fantasy.

Over 2 million views in less than 2 days. The Versus XIII trailer which was uploaded at the beginning of 2011 only has 2.7 million in comparison.

In Final Fantasy VII, the gang rides a sand buggy through medieval wilderness, and can use it to reach medieval-looking towns. One of those towns has a gigantic space rocket stranded in the middle.

In Final Fantasy VIII, we have medieval-looking towns, and then we have Deling City, which looks like some kind of modern-era French city. And then we have Esthar, a super futuristic, crystal-looking era with all sorts of crazy super advanced technology. The characters in this game face soldiers, dinosaurs and giant insects, while riding big yellow birds.

Again, I don't blame you if you are new to the series, but this is exactly how Final Fantasy is. Or at least how it has been since the sixth installment.

Dude sorry - FF7 and others had that new/old clash and vibe - but the way it is done in this just feels sterile and ham-handed. Not to mention the characters look terrible

Disagree. Final Fantasy XV looks just like a game in the franchise would: A mix between medieval settings, some steampunk and modern stuff.

The car isn't the issue. The problem is the car's look. It looks like a luxury sedan you'd see in a commercial. There's nothing fantastical about it, and it looks strange next to the incredibly fantastical monsters.

You go from Tokyo to an untamed fantasy wilderness. It's supposed to look strange.

Well the very first thing they said about the game is that it's a fantasy based on reality.
