Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

You know, I think this stuff could honestly be fixed by the Raid itself.

Right now, some people just get materials for loot from some of the raid encounters. What if the encounters dropped a higher amount of materials for everyone along with giving everyone raid-specific loot? That way, folks will have a method of upgrading raid items while not feeling so starved.
I like the idea, I think many would still complain - I only play solo. I don't have a group, etc. Raid is the endgame though, so I feel there should at least be some guaranteed rewards tied to leveling.

In WoW, we used to raid every week and sometimes get nothing. At lease their isnt DKP in Destiny.

Don't be disingenuous. I already covered it, but in WoW you may not get anything but someone is guaranteed to get an upgrade(Until you've done the raid so much that you either move on to heroic, or bring in fresh blood). In Destiny, nobody in your group is guaranteed anything because they're personal loot streams. When I did the raid, only 2 people got legendaries through the first 3 bosses. Instead of each boss guaranteeing a drop, only 1 person got a sniper rifle, and only 1 person got a scout rifle through the first 3 bosses. Alot of people would get discouraged coming back to it.

And it's why WoW introduced the token system-There were so many classes that it's easier to funnel the tier gear into a drop that multiple people have a chance of getting.

So the Queen's Emmisary stand only has Blue weapons for sale.

So the only way to get Purple's is to do her missions?

I've literally gotten a helmet every single time.

God damn whatever your opinion of the game one thing is clear: Bungie dun goofed. Their name used to mean insta-buy for me. Now I'm waiting for reviews from now on. Jesus I used to own my xbox solely for my love for Bungie.

This is more sad than anger inducing for me.

My snark aside, this is how I feel too. It's truly unfortunate. Halo was the reason I got an OG Xbox.

To quote this again:

This affects EVERYONE. Including legitimate players. Struggling on a mission? Tough shit. You get nothing for finally finishing it.

yeah that's kind of a big deal

especially after bungie was so hard up on not dictating rewards based on performance

too bad. better git gud (but only because we don't know what else to do in response to this growing problem which stems from a nonsensical loot system - and no, we're not pulling our heads from our asses either. our ideas are perfect)

Doesn't effect end mission rewards only engrams from regular mobs.

They should've increased the likelihood of getting something good at the end of the mission at the same time then. Because after going through the strike playlist yesterday, all I was getting were level 18 blues.

engram drops and end mission rewards are not the same thing. your rewards for finishing will be unchanged whether you died or not.

It was already in the game, hence the "fixed in 1.0.1.4" part. I suspect it is some minor drop suppression for a short window after a hard wipe to cut back on the cliff-diving farm method.

Bungie needs to up the chance of their only truly good map Burning Shrine.

I wish there were a 6v6 version also...going into a 3v3 match with randoms don't end well.

Not respecting Lt. Daniels?

That's a demerit.

I never get tired of hearing Broyles. I also love Lord Shaxx, I don't care what anyone says.

Dropped Engrams. Not mission completion engrams.

They want to stop in-mission death farming which was having bad effects when three players enter a strike and 1 or 2 want to do stupid death farming, the other 1 or 2 just want to finish the strike normally.

The main problem is Bungie is giving lots of vinegar and very little honey. The whole one to two months away in their message was not encouraging in the least.

There was a time when caves were much more powerful.

Goodbye Cave...

Greetings Guardian...

There was a time when caves were much more powerful...
Guardians from all around would gather there to seek out very powerful gear...
There must be a way to bring it back, we can not give up hope...
The Darkness is coming, we will not survive it this time...

So a dying counts as a hard wipe?

When you go into a no respawn zone, and you die and get that countdown screen that everyone else has died and you respawn. If it was before a boss you would have to fight your way through the mobs again. This second, third, fourth....x time those mobs will not drop (or lower) the chance of dropping loots.

Bungie needs to fix Strike rewards for sure. The sole reason I don't play them much is because of time/reward. I get More marks for doing a short and easy PE. And I think those assassination patrols give the same amount of Rep (25).

I went home to pick up some relic irons on Mars during lunch and, after upgrading my exotic chest armor, hit level 27... now this??? Wow.

Everyone might be bitching about the death of the loot cave, but I'm doing juuuust fine today.

Just like anything else, those unhappiest, even if a small group, will be the loudest.

Those of us who enjoy the game more broadly will never even notice this change :)

Considering how crappy the drop rate and loot system actually is with the cave being gone, I honestly wouldn't mind paying a dollar or two for a guaranteed Exotic as DLC at this rate.

You can tell Bungie has absolutely no idea what they're doing in the world of loot.

The whole system is a mess. Low level enemies drop the same loot as bosses. Legendary engrams are more often to be rare items than legendary items. Everything is a rep grind. No consistent way (now) to get high end upgrade materials.

They need to look long and hard at how they run their loot game if they want me to come back for Destiny 2.

Honestly, this is my only concern. Treasure Cave should've been dealt with before now., but, whatever.

HOWEVER....The lack of foresight to see what we'd do with the Queen's Wrath Event is honestly staggering. It's incompetent.

Maybe I'll use this as a launchpad to get my FPS skills honed until Advanced Warfare is out.

Bring me with you :(.

So them saying they designed some systems poorly and promising to address these issues is a bad thing now? I thought that's what people wanted? Bungie has responded to some of the criticisms, so now that's not good enough?

I can understand not wanting them to nerf the loot cave before tuning loot drops, but at least give them credit here.

As I mentioned above, Dax, this makes them look incompetent / like shit. If someone is making me a steak and overcooks / messes it up, I don't give them credit for admitting it, I look upon them in a disapproving light and trust them less for steak #2.

"Since launch we've tracked down an issue which has made Strikes more challenging than originally designed by both increasing damage taken by players and decreasing the damage inflicted by players on the boss. Expect to see this addressed soon, and for Strikes to become a little less grindy as a result"
Best news.

Great news, but what is underlying it is horrible news. They're playing it off like a bug. As if it wasn't intended. Like the glimmer nerf, sorry, difficulty nerf.

It screams PR spin. It's not like they haven't played these Strikes. They know how much HP these things have and how much damage per bullet occurs!

If they wanted to do a grab bag thing, why not make a prism engram or some shit?
I bet you this is exactly what will happen.

So for those wanting shards, the methods are:

Daily Public Events - Ascendant materials for first gold tier completion of the day and chance at additional materials each subsequent gold tier completion.
Daily/Weekly Nightfall/Heroic Strikes/Stories
Dismantle legendary/exotic gear
Purchase exotics from Xur and dismantle.
Raids

Anything else?
Honestly? I'm worried, but we can still buy items for marks and dismantle. For now....

******************

Patch fall out issues. Depending upon what you're doing, if you wipe on a mission early enough, you're now motivated to treat it like Nightfall, return to Orbit, and try again. That is a "bad thing".

Also, are Patrols considered "missions"? i.e., if I die on Patrol, should I also return to Orbit and restart?

Yeah, it truly makes no sense. I wonder who sits down and thinks about the ramifications of these things. We spent the whole game dissembling gear that was poor to improve our current gear. What made Bungie think we wouldn't do it for Legendaries when raid gear is better than any other legenday out there?

The funny thing is this once again does nothing but frustrate people who actually are doing the queen missions for an actual drop(like the helmet) as now every time the game rolls them the chest they don't need, it was a total waste of time.

Like. Jeez.

Just re-quoting this. Any ideas?

Don't think so...

I was thinking of a work around, I could just use the queen gear and dismantle the legendaries I already have.

Depends on how it looks/stats If I do this.

I was going to do them anyway, cause they seemed somewhat challenging.

No offence but people farming a cave and lvling up wrong and than complaining now they have no reason to do the queens mission...

Oof.

I've never farmed the cave, I'm complaining there's no reason to do the queens missions because there is no reason for players who are higher level.

This is an ongoing event for 2 weeks. You could of had an interesting and exciting event for 2 weeks; even if each legendary you got from it had a %50 chance of dropping a shard, it would still be worth it and we would still do the bounties. Now it's only exciting for level 20 players for the one day they do them, and that's it.

They patched it because they want it to take longer for players to level up, and that would be alright if they did it without removing rewards and excitement from their weekly/bi-weekly events.

Just like anything else, those unhappiest, even if a small group, will be the loudest.

Those of us who enjoy the game more broadly will never even notice this change :)

For the guy you quoted and yourself, and I guess myself as well, once you get raid loot, you're going to be starving for ascendant mats.

As I said after, they'll be playing for the drops, not the end mission stuff.

So are the queens legendaries the only ones that dismantle into nothing?

Oh. Might as well be nothing then.
Will got no reason to do those missions anymore. No reason to do to the cave, and no incentive to do missions. Tune to do those night falls and raids I can't get my friends to do with me :(

I broke down 2 legendary helmets from the queen missions and only got a combined 5 hadronic essence from them. WTF?! What a waste.

Bungie needs to fix Strike rewards for sure. The sole reason I don't play them much is because of time/reward. I get More marks for doing a short and easy PE. And I think those assassination patrols give the same amount of Rep (25).

The far future dev notes make no mention of strike rewards, only reducing difficulty. Looks like we're fucked.

i fully expect hand cannon headshots to be the theme of iron banner...
Just have 1 character with high rank vanguard & crucible rep, as well as whatever currency they use. Then just use the vault to transfer items between Guardians.

..at least until they fix that.

but you can't buy armor at vendors for your other characters - only your specific class armor

yeah that's kind of a big deal

You all seem to be missing the fact that it only effects drops, not end of mission rewards.

This encourages players to play smarter, and adds and actual death penalty. No death penalty makes things incredibly uninteresting. at that point it stops being a game with winners and losers, and it becomes an activity.

Get fucked, Bungie.
fucking hell

First off, I sympathize with everyone who's getting pissed about the shard drops from the Queen's Wrath. I don't agree that you should be getting pissed about it, because basically nothing having to do with a videogame is worth that, but no doubt that was a sweet ass ascendant shard farm and it blows chunks that it's gone.

but oh well. this kind of reaction to anything a developer does, regardless of who it is, what it is, or what game it's for, isn't particularly cute anymore. on the whole, I am thrilled by the contents of these patch notes. almost every single word matches up with my understanding of the game's intended vision. here are my highlights

Re: engrams- Cryptarch thinks he's opening a grab bag of loot. Rage sharding of blues ensues. Expect to see changes to address this soon.
decrease the efficiency of cave farming (edit: I bet I know exactly what they mean by the way and cave/similar farming will still be possible)
correspondingly increase engram drops from completing activities.
allow players to opt-in to voice communication during matchmade activities.
issue which has made Strikes more challenging than originally designed by both increasing damage taken by players and decreasing the damage inflicted by players on the boss. Expect to see this addressed soon
re: exotic weapons Thorn and Bad Juju- We're here to offer some advice: don't shard those guns. Their time will come.
Today the Auto Rifle is too effective at long range, even beating Scout and Pulse Rifles in some circumstances. Expect stability and/or damage adjustments to the Auto Rifle to address this in the weeks ahead.
Scouts just aren't hitting hard enough today when compared to other precision weapons. We'll be addressing this soon.
Expect changes soon to address shotguns which push the envelope of what it means to be close quarters.
All of this is very good for the game.

Fucking hell, again.

There are a lot of people out there reading this right now who know that I am talking especially to them when I say the following: Destiny obviously has a long and bright future ahead of it. Keep playing for fun. Take breaks when you feel like it. These are the earliest days of a game we'll be playing for a very long time, probably years. These things will be true regardless of how much hysterical outrage surrounds it.

For now, I am bailing the fuck out of here. This is a mess. I'm an active part of this community not because I love Bungie oh so much and think they can do no wrong and think Destiny is perfect and get butthurt when people criticize my favoritest thing, but simply because I like being a part of a community for a game like this. I like having people to discuss things with when we can't be playing, exchange tips and strategies and information we all may have missed.

I want my presence on neogaf to help people get the most out of this game and purely from a functional perspective that's impossible right now. I'll resume posting when the requisite of "get over it" has happened and things have calmed down. If you notice someone asking for help that can't be completely answered by my guides please have them PM me or send me a message on PSN (hawkian there too).

After reading through those notes, I am saddened by the upcoming nerf to the cave experience and AR stability. I do however welcome the increased engram production via strikes as it should be.

I am skeptical about the opt in comms though. Guerrilla Games tried it in KZSF but that failed. Hard. It depends on how they implement it I guess....

Also where does it say that queen isn't giving away anymory ass shards?

This is more sad than anger inducing for me.

More and more starting to think Microsoft keeping them only doing Halo was a smart move. Giving them free reign really is not playing to their strengths.
