Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

The Halo rings not only played a key part in the story of Halo, but they were also heavily relied upon as symbolic imagery used in advertising and branding. I believe that around 2013 when the PR was about to ramp up for Destiny, Activision latched on to the symbolism of the Traveler and decided to use this as the main theme for the game. So they plastered it on box art, posters and all over marketing material.

They wanted to keep the "feel good" idealism of the Traveler being a unified symbol for the game, but that didn't mesh well with the current story so they had all of the elements of the Traveler being bad removed. This is why when you sneak up on a member of the Hive you can hear them say "The Darkness!".

Because you, as a Guardian, were actually supposed to be the "Darkness" but when the story got changed around they sold it as Guardians being heroes - which is why the narrative for the always online MP seems to weakly focus on the idea of supposedly "creating your own story".

I believe that the games tone was originally centered around a first-person narrative, with a coherent conflict - similar to a single player FPS. However, for some reason (or many), they removed many of the first person narrative aspects to the story in order to force the idea of you creating the story as you played through with your friends.

This is why we always hear PR speak from Bungie about this story being "YOUR" story instead of "a" story. There seemed to be an actual story there at one point, but it was gutted most likely due to a change in the marketing appeal of the game.

Well, shit.

It seems that people are quick to blame Activision for the changes at launch... How are you not sure that it was a change in philosophy at Bungie?

Because we've seen this happen with Activision before. The Infinity Ward lawsuit kind of put their publisher/corporate strategy out in public.

Was trying to finish the weekly strike at lvl 28 with the help of Luchashaq and mike hawk, were at the end boss and then..... network error.

This is a DDOS attack, not maintenance. And Bungie is pretty good at giving a heads up when there's actual maintenance. There's an in-game pop up when you launch.
I had not seen any of those. I was not able to play much during the last couple of weeks, but I had been kicked without any notice in that short time. Yep, this definitely seems like an attack. The main site is not working.

Can't Sony do anything? Can't they hire someone to go after these fucking 15yo kids? They just let it go down, dont say anything and think everything is well?

How does this crap continue to be legal? That part genuinely confuses me. I mean if I were to go up to a company and take a giant dump on the front door that would be considered an illegal action, yet somehow to attack whatever the hell you want through DDoS is legal somehow. Essentially it's cyber vandalism and there should be some way to punish people so that there's an actual deterrence.

Anyone else having trouble with PSN as well? Getting Errors across the board.

Yeah I'm getting PSN errors too, as well as getting booted from Destiny. Wasn't even playing any online multilayer, doing some strike missions and I get booted. So much for our digital future.

Why on earth do you think this has to do with Sony? Activision's servers are down, period. XBL included.

It is not legal.

Source? I'm not sure you know what you're talking about.

It's not so much that it's specifically allowed, there have just been relatively few cases where the offenders actually get caught and go to court, so it's hard for them to establish a precedent.

No more loot room and no more loot red box. 40 second timers on everything.

Gives you time to dismantle all the greens you accidentally picked up.

We have now realized the error of our ways. Legendary engrams will now have a chance to decrypt into greens.

Rare Engrams won't decrypt into legendaries.

Getting a legendary now is befitting of its name.

That 20 to 26 grind becomes real.

Right when I get a full squad for Atheon on XB1 these fuckers take it down. I don't think LizardSquad has taken down a game on XB1 before so I'm new to this. How long does it usually last PSN users?
