New Driveclub gameplay

Is there a racing line in Driveclub? Even though I love PGR and Forza Horizon, I really suck at these games.

Man, that GIF makes me think team downsampled might be on to something.

In other news, I finally ordered a wheel. Got sick of waiting for the T300 RS to become available and after hearing about Thrustmaster's terrible customer service, I went for the much less expensive, and thus less risky, T100. Will post impressions in the DC OT next Tuesday, sometime in the early afternoon CST.

I remember seeing a racing line in some of the footage. Isn't is usually on at trade shows?

I thought I saw one, but it turned out to be that there's a driving line challenge that turns on for some corners at certain points. I haven't seen one for an entire race.

That was the monster GIF on the previous page. Not the videos :)

The videos would kill it even more dead.

I wonder if my PS3 can handle them.

Et tu? You guys are abandoning me at the fort of innocence. Stay strong, Vivek. Stay strong.

Only for challenges. Not by default

Ha ha. Have you tried the videos I'd quoted in the last page? They are pretty small and well encoded. My bluray player could handle them. I'm sure the ps3 could

Okay... wow, is this from the final build? Is this how the game actually looks? I do not want my expectations to be too high but hot damn this looks good.

Rushy said yes. But it's still up in the air if it is realtime gameplay running on a single PS4 at 1080p30. I want to belieeeeve.

At first I was about to post a rebuttal comment to Jett earlier in the thread when he claimed the game was supersampled.

I actually agree with him, the shit looks supersampled. ON THE CHANCE I AM WRONG, if it is real - than Evolution Studios has become the technical authority on racing games.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Y'all are crazy and need to remind yourselves what that looks like by popping into the PC screenshot thread.

Played the game at PAX, art and tech looks phenomenal, but the image quality wasn't quite as sharp as FH2 in MS' booth. Then again, TV settings at these shows are crap, so who knows.

I really want to believe its real because EVO has never done that with any of their games, Rushy did comment that the video was from the final build, and I still think it would be nuts for Sony to make this supersampled with the game just days away..but if i'm wrong, then I'll still be happy with the game, but totally disappointed in this type of stunt.

Lucky we'll know in a few days, so close now.

Looks wise, Driveclub looks the part...but in terms of customisation (lack of), car list...and a bunch of other stuff, I have no idea what people are excited for.

Forza Horizon 2 looks pretty damn incredible. I don't know what's special about Driveclub. I'm not intending to be a downer, I mean, if it's somehow compelling, I'm prepared to buy it asap...but so far, not good.

What's special about FH2? I played the first game already. Boring. So far, lame, I expect the same from the sequel. Did I troll right?

I'm not talking about the earlier videos, I'm specifically talking about the webm's and gif's floating around from the LATEST video in the last few pages. It looks too good. It literally makes some of the PC games I play with heavy AA look like they have poor IQ.

I have my faith in Evolution and Rushy is one awesome dude, but the IQ is too good. If I'm wrong, I am so happy to be wrong, and the PS4 + Evolution = all the Wizards. :)

IMHO, the levels of hype around the game maybe not matching an "outsiders" view of the game is probably down to the fact that the PS4 does not yet have a solid racing game and that it NEEDS Driveclub to be awesome or it's a problem for racing fans.

I don't think drive club was meant to be such a big release initially which reflects in its seemingly small feature set outside of simply going racing and possibly why releasing in 2013 seemed possible to Sony at one point, but being the only exclusive racer on the system, it doesn't really have a choice, especially when it's releasing around a slew of other racers in the crew, horizon 2 and project cars.

I've probably said this a million times in this place, but hyping games to a certain level, mostly because of things that are not gameplay, has never seemed to end well for any game I know of. Especially recently.

That's not to comment in any way about the games quality, but more to do with expectations matching what happens when people actually start playing the game.

Edit: and no, other people playing a game and telling me it's good isn't the same thing as ME playing the game and comparing my expectations with the actual game. Other people playing the game and telling me their opinion is just more expectation, not experience.

Anyone who can't see the reason why people feel so pumped for DC most be a troll?

lol... but it has great gameplay too, not just the looks.

These posts are funny.

We don't actually know that for sure yet. I hope you're right, but still. His concerns are valid.

Excuse my ignorance but could someone explain again what "super sampled" actually means? Thanks

To put it simply you're basically rendering internally at a higher resolution than the final resolution of the image your outputting. It has benefits for IQ including less aliasing etc.

you guys are concerned for sure... lol.

But we have had impressions from past month and they were all great.

Stay concerned tho!

Seriously.

This game has the visuals and gameplay on lock down as far I'm concerned.
All that I'm wary of at this point is the OST and date for the weather patch.

Yesterday, I was driving in my real car in a sunset and while looking around I thought, well, indeed, racing games are now pretty close to resample reality if they are able to get the lighting situation right. We are almost there.

And then I noticed how smooth the world around me was.

Gifs and such are downsampled by their nature. IQ is best judged at native res.

And that wasn't the final game.

About AA
"It's a mixture. There's a pixel-based system that we're using, there's a temporal-based system, there's FXAA and there's actually a material-based system as well. We've only got four systems in place and we've got another for the key points that we don't quite hit. We obsess about the small details, so we're getting another one to go on top of that, to get on top of the very final image quality issues."

Is there something like microsoft wireless speed wheel working on ps4? I don't want to buy something too big. That would be perfect....

What customisation are you looking for? If it's for tuning, I prefer it gone so rather than depending on downloading a tune to get the best performance of a car, the best times on a course will be purely down to skill... nothing else. If talking about paining cars, the idea is that cars have a similar aesthetic without being overly complicated or alienating people who aren't that talented with art a la Forza.

The number of cars thing is IMO way too overblown. Having put god-knows how many hours into GT5, I maybe owned 100 of the cars available and regularly drove 20 (if that). The smaller number almost forces people to become intimate with it's characteristics rather than finding one they think they like. There are more bases Evo could've covered with their variety (there's a staggering lack of choice from the East, for example) but the luxury Forza and GT granted us with having hundreds of cars was exaggerated and unnecessary. PGR4 had a far smaller number (a lot closer to DC, at around 80) and I'm still having a blast with that game.

Don't underestimate the longevity of a game when it looks and plays well. PGR3 and 4 shared almost all the same characteristics DC does and still hold up as some of the greatest racing games ever last-gen despite their age (PGR4 came out in 2007). I'm confident Driveclub is every bit as good and pretty much PGR5 in everything but name.

Tonight, I was checking GAF and while looking around, I found a surprisingly positive post from Thrakier that I could relate to because I've felt something similar multiple times in the past few days. We were almost there.

And then I noticed the last sentence.

Guys, try it for yourself. Just try to get an awareness for things. Look how the trees and blanks on the sides move by you, how super smooth and responsive it is. Everything moves so...real. It's an eye opener.

Do you drive your car with analogue thumbsticks?
Seriously though, this is probably the most blatant trolling you've done in regards to frame rate. I'm looking forwards to seeing what the aftermath will be.

Oh look another 'i don't think it will do good' post. You never played NFS HP 2010? That game is focused on racing. Only thing you could do is change the color of your car and just race every goddamn track available to beat your friends and unlock new cars and tracks a long the way. Why the hell would i have custimization? I don't care about that. Driveclub is coming close to NFS HP 2010 one of my favorite arcade racers with a butt load of cars and tracks to race against my friends and AI.

Why is it all of a sudden a must have for a open world? Mostly i just hate driving in a open world to even start a race. Also there enough cars and tracks at launch why do i need 500 cars? 50 are more then enough to choose from.

I played this at EGX last week and was blown away by both the visuals and gameplay, it felt like PGR and looked like nothing else on PS4.

I'm more into sim racers these days so Project Cars felt better, but as an arcade racer it was simply sublime.

Excellent. That's what I like to hear. Gameplay does look incredible. The visuals, combined
with the camera angles and sense of speed are exhilarating.

The open world thing wasn't in the equation. From what I've seen, it just looks very vanilla. Nothing particularly exciting about it (apart from how great it looks).

As a PS4 owner, and someone with a generally broad taste in games...I WANT this game to be good. I want every game to be good. I only mentioned Forza Horizon 2, simply because I like a lot of the cars featured in it, as well as the tuning / being able to style your car. That may be off-putting or not a concern for die hard racing fans, but for me, it's a big deal. The whole "clubs" schtick doesn't all that enticing either.

Given the amount of shit being served up by nearly every publisher...and the year delay on what was suppose to be a launch window title, I think skepticism is healthy, and cynicism is a given, no?

We had 100% final confirmation that this game is 30 fps all the way back in April, yet you keep trolling every thread about this game with your 60 fps nonsense although you clearly have no intention of getting this game. It's beyond tiring now.
