New Driveclub gameplay

Yesterday, I was driving in my real car in a sunset and while looking around I thought, well, indeed, racing games are now pretty close to resample reality if they are able to get the lighting situation right. We are almost there.

And then I noticed how smooth the world around me was.

Hey same here. I think I render the world @120fps with lots of AA because it looks fucking amazing.

I don't like the astigmatism shader and the blinding sun immersive feedback though. I wish I could opt-out.

Also I noticed most of my map is on corridors as there are some stupid small walls around the highway. So last gen.

Furthermore I cannot break the rules much because for some stupid reason there's no respawn in this game. This is harder than the souls series, I'm serious.

Dude, you've entered self-parody territory with this obssessive frame rate shtick. I've got to hand it to you, you must be awfully good at trolling, because you've managed to evade the banhammer for this long while banging the same drum over and over.

I actually think FH2 looks a million times more fun and nearly as good graphically, but I'm not ever buying an xbone, so I really hope DC turns out to be good.

If I were ever to somehow get an xbone for free I'd get fh2 tho, so there is that, lol.

How does one go about contacting mods about persistent trolls? Is there a procedure?
Main page > view forum staff > pm mod that's online > provide reason and proof.
And that's that. I'd personally advise to not be a salty dude or tattletale though.

Is Driveclub at EGX the final game build?

Close to reality? Seriously? I am not sure on what planet you are driving... :)

What customisation are you looking for? If it's for tuning, I prefer it gone so rather than depending on downloading a tune to get the best performance of a car, the best times on a course will be purely down to skill... nothing else. If talking about paining cars, the idea is that cars have a similar aesthetic without being overly complicated or alienating people who aren't that talented with art a la Forza.

The number of cars thing is IMO way too overblown. Having put god-knows how many hours into GT5, I maybe owned 100 of the cars available and regularly drove 20 (if that). The smaller number almost forces people to become intimate with it's characteristics rather than finding one they think they like. There are more bases Evo could've covered with their variety (there's a staggering lack of choice from the East, for example) but the luxury Forza and GT granted us with having hundreds of cars was exaggerated and unnecessary. PGR4 had a far smaller number (a lot closer to DC, at around 80) and I'm still having a blast with that game.

Don't underestimate the longevity of a game when it looks and plays well. PGR3 and 4 shared almost all the same characteristics DC does and still hold up as some of the greatest racing games ever last-gen despite their age (PGR4 came out in 2007). I'm confident Driveclub is every bit as good and pretty much PGR5 in everything but name.

Agree about the tuning. It is a rabbit hol I'm not interested in diving down, but it can be frustrating to know that will most likely relegate you to the back of the field compared to others that did.

Car choice I'm not sure about. Yes, I usually concentrate on a handful of cars, but for no you and me to get the perfect handful of our personal favourites, you need a large pool to select from. Same with tracks. There are a few I love, but you need a large selection to try and get everyone's favourites

The open world thing wasn't in the equation. From what I've seen, it just looks very vanilla. Nothing particularly exciting about it (apart from how great it looks).

It's an incredibly beautiful circuit + point-to-point simcade racer with a great sense of speed, tight courses, and great audio design that seems to play well. That's enough for some. If you can watch these videos featuring the most scenic tracks and eye catching lighting ever in a racing title combined with fast cars on relatively narrow tracks and call it "vanilla," maybe it's not for you.

I played a fair amount of the first game and really liked it, also one of my all time favorite games is test drive unlimited 2... That HUGE open map, Hawaii and ibiza... Just too good, everything else has felt claustrophobic to me since then.

Being able to cruse around with friends or just up and challenge someone to a race after seeing them on the road is not only fun and immersion, I actually met tons of people that way. Something that a lobby system has never really done for me haven it's random nature and people dropping in and out.

I just made a gif to illustrate what effect Driveclub threads have on Neogaf users.

That game size is brilliant. There's a sweet atmosphere to those islands and houses and such. Makes me tempted to get The Crew since much of the team was part of Test Drive Unlimited 2 and left during it's development.

I love me an open world, but damn I'd trade my money for Driveclub visuals in a flash.

I don't think it looks nearly as good, but that is just me...Now, the fun part, I could understand : Driving through fields, unchained,,,sounds, looks and is actually fun. But there are people who actually enjoy perfectioning their handling of cars, and finding the perfect trajectory, the ideal drift, the best angle...those will possibly prefer the more serious DC.

Weird to me when people say FH2 looks better thanks to open world. Does that mean mainline Forza seems worse than FH2 also? Or do these people know they just prefer open world and there's a whole classy world of circuit racers that still count as great.

Forza 5 looks quite a bit worse than FH2. But how about not talking about the Forza games in a Driveclub topic?

Wasn't talking graphics. DriveClub obviously wins there. I said this in response to the conversation that is going about which looks to be a better game to people.

The Crew has been on my list since I learned (via GAF) that many members of Eden were working on it. DC i hope turns out to "feel" right. it looks good, but playing it will be the real test.

So instead of seeing the beauty and joy in every sunset, you think about framerates. How miserable it all must be for you.

Well surely you should be more excited looking at the devs behind DriveClub. It's like a racing game dream team.

because people seem to bring the open world racer thing all the time. Some seem to want downplay DC in one way or another, first the 30fps thing, now open world, etc etc

I personally have no issues since i do not see the point for a racing game being openworld, makes no sense to me.

On topic, waiting for reviews and final build footage to see if IQ is that good.

Wait a minute. What's going on here? We are being fed fake footage?

hmm.. more like we were fed GIFs from trailers as runtime gameplay.
but this only for that pagani cockpit as far as I understand.

So you can't design a livery from scratch?
only 3 premade (shitty) liveries and the club livery.

I guess they really copied this (sucky) part from PGR.
pgr 4 got so much flak in their forums back in the day, when the cpu cars would go and automatically put on them shitty liveries back then.. I still remember how a couple of guys at bizarre were genuinely disappointed with the harsh comments then, but it was their mistake.
at least dc doesnt auto-put the ..flag liveries on the cars.

As a PS4 owner, and someone with a generally broad taste in games...I WANT this game to be good. I want every game to be good. I only mentioned Forza Horizon 2, simply because I like a lot of the cars featured in it, as well as the tuning / being able to style your car. That may be off-putting or not a concern for die hard racing fans, but for me, it's a big deal. The whole "clubs" schtick doesn't all that enticing either.

Given the amount of shit being served up by nearly every publisher...and the year delay on what was suppose to be a launch window title, I think skepticism is healthy, and cynicism is a given, no?

How about...you know...the racing part? That looks pretty damn exciting, imo. An amazing sense of speed, with aggressive AI on beautiful ad varied tracks. I don't see how you could say there's nothing particularly exciting about it after seeing so much gameplay and GIFs. Unless of course you haven't seen them.

well, the good news for you publicpwnerer, is that about a month after driveclub is out and the main bulk is sold,
we will start getting news about what polyphony has been doing.
they keep radio silence now, but hell, all of you must undestand that they've been working on this ...straight architechture ps4 offers, and not the fucked-up shit that ps3 h/w was.
so.... you know you are going to get happy, and I can almost bet that GT news will surface around christmas.

Same. I don't see the problem with that.

It increases your blind spot and decreases situational awareness. Ideally (in a regular car, not something with a fat bum like a Boxster) you should only see your car if you touch your ear to the drivers door. Objects should leave the rear view mirror just as they appear on the side mirror, not exist on both simultaneously. Try it out sometime and I think you'll be convinced.

Guy, guys. No Forza here, only DRIVECLUB!

Mercedes-AMG-GT---Driveclub.gif

dear lord that almost looks like a cut for a commercial............Dear lord this game will gain traction due to that PS+ ordeal. It's how I'm going to experience it.......even though advertisement may be low.....having a huge chunk free to all PS+ members is HUGE. I just want to get my hands on the gameplay so I can feel the driving physics for myself if it feels good. Which all directions point to the gameplay is actually really solid.

Man...it's so annoying to see the same "It looks nice but is the gameplay even good?" posts every time I read this thread. You have to be actively ignoring every gameplay impression this year to make this comment.

At the beginning of the year every major gaming website posted gameplay previews. We had impressions from the beta, Gamescom, and EGX. All of them were positive gameplay wise. It's time to stop assuming the gameplay is bad just because the graphics are good enough to make people constantly talk about them.

It's fine to question whether or not you'll enjoy the gameplay, but it's proven to have great gameplay.

That can't be in-game graphics ..right?

It's from b-roll for their free day 1 DLC car. Take from it what you will. I'm labeling it as "replay quality footage". If the footage in the OP is indeed legit gameplay, then you can expect the game to look as good as that GIF while racing.

EDIT: It's week 1 DLC, not Day 1.
