Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

What happened to GPGPU compute? Not there yet or not something that could solve their AI issue? I thought It was supposed to be the coolest.

IIRC we knew the patch was coming because the game was supposed to be running at 1080p on PS4 from the getgo.

On topic: I really like MS, I want an XBO so bad for Sunset Overdrive, D4 and Quantum Break but man! Between this and the Tomb Raider deal with them not being straightforward about it, I fucking hate the way they handle things sometimes. Screwing over users just for parity. Fuck parity!

I got AC1, AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations and even AC3. I got burned off the series so bad because AC3 was such a terrible game but despite that, I ended up getting AC4 for PS4. I won't be getting Unity at all now, I'm fine without playing the series, I've been fine since the clusterfuck AC3 was. AC Rogue? Maybe if they had put Haytham as the main character.

One of the reasons I will never buy an xb1 and support them, even if I miss out on some good games. Deals for parity or the TR deal make me wish Microsoft would abandon the gaming market, because instead of making it a better place they are making it worse.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about French culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in France, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the french public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Assassins Creed Unity for either system, nor will they purchase any of Ubisofts's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Ubisoft has alienated an entire market with this move.

Ubisoft, publicly apologize and make Asssassins Creed Unity 1080p/60 FPS on PS4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

The irony is that this copy pasta is how people are actually treating this news. I remember this same shit happening for Watch Dogs when it was 900p 30fps for PS4 and the same comments happened

"Oh I'm cancelling my pre order"

"Oh thanks ubisoft for making the decission not to buy your game easier"

And Watch Dogs ends up being the best debut for a new IP from ubisoft.

Fuck I think GAF has gotten even more hilarious when it comes to this resolution outrage. People are cancelling pocket watch pre orders.

This shit is fucking hilarious.

I just put some popcorn in the microwave. :rubbing hands:

I really do not care about this, lol. I'll just play the game and have fun.

I would go for the PC version, but Ubisoft...and especially the port is being done by Ubisoft Kiev....yeahhhh no. Might get FC4 on PS4 as well due to port worries.

Now you people know how it feels to be a WiiU owner dealing with this kind of shit, sans the beign ridiculed for beign mad ofc. :P

Sure, but it's not Sony enforcing parity with Vita games here for their own first party releases, so it's not exactly the same.

So it's thanks to Azura if the xone version it's 900p I suppose.

No I highly doubt Ubi would use Azure. Both consoles are severely CPU gimped. I have read a bunch of articles where they express disappointment with the CPUs and not so much the GPUs. Both consoles came in really low on the CPU side, and there are concerns that this will hamper games going forward.

MS is attacking it via Azure offload going forward and a little DX12 magic.

One of the devs on this forum is using Azure for his current game.

This is what I am allowed to share.

Running in real-time on XBO. Very early wip, so don't care for the lighting and so on. It is a very basic frequency test where the grass splines update 12 times a second. This is nothing special so far. The cool thing is tho that the start and endpoints of our splines influenced by wind and objects are being calculated by Azure. This means: the physic calculations you see are costing us pretty much no local power (excluding GPU ofc). We can use the saved power for other things - like AI, animations and so on. We are very proud of it - especially since we completely eliminated any chance of clipping. I just wanted to add that here.

And no, this won't be a golf/grass/whatever simulator - I just thought maybe it is interesting to see;)

I know GAF "in general" is very pessimistic about the cloud. And yes, somehow I can understand that - because so far, there weren't that much games that really took advantage of server calculations. To be honest, no new-gen so far really did (Titanfall touched 5% of the possibilities ...). And this is also why I try to be very careful about the words I choose.

No. You can not boost your games resolution with Azure. And no. You can not create better lighting effects with Azure. But, if you focus on it, you can still boost the overall graphical look of your game by a mile. We are currently creating a game. But in fact, we are kind of creating two-in-one. One with Azure available, and one for offline only. Everything you code, you need to code for two scenerarios. This is a ton of work. if online = dynamic grass; if offline=static grass ... To say it very simple. And so on.That's why we are currently thinking about going "online-only". But to be very open to you, we have some fear about that. Obviously. The gaming community is very careful when they hear "online-only" ... Games like Sim City simply ... Well, did it wrong.

If I could show you a screen comparison of our latest build right now - Azure on/off (no, sorry, I can't ...), you would understand what I am talking about. Wind, dynamically moving vegetations, footprints that stay for hours and even wildlife nearly without losing any local CPU power. This is just awesome in the right situations.

I know MS has some own projects in the works, too, that will go all-in with the Azure servers. Crackdown is the already known example.

That's all I can say for now. Really. I'm out here! :)

Let me get this straight: According to the PR, the reason why the resolution is low... because the performance is related to the CPU due to the AI which, if prioritized on "graphics", would result in 100fps.

WHAT?

The strawman spin is unbelievably incredible it avoided the resolution issue into a frame-rate one. I mean, what kind of drugs did the heads of the company were taking before relaying this message? Ubisoft is so out of touch with the community it astounds me to how daring they are to release information like this without expecting a backlash!

Wonder if this means COD will be in the same situation since all the previews are on the Xbone.

Activision, "Guys you know those bus AIs are incredibly complex and affecting framerate, 900p for everyone. Best we can do."

The real secret sauce in the June SDK.

This shit is fucking hilarious.

Watch Dogs had the privilege of very little competition on a system begging for non-Indie games. This does not.

Is it reasonable to assume that this is due to Microsoft's influence then? The game has been shown at their events the same way Watch Dogs and Destiny were always seen at Sony's conferences, so this close association with brand meant that Ubisoft bent over for this parity business and willingly took it.

Fucking shameful either way. I hope this doesn't become commonplace.

While we don't have conclusive evidence on why Ubisoft decided to limit the PS4 version, it's very reasonable to assume that the existing marketing deal between Microsoft and Ubisoft would lead to preferential treatment for the Xbox One version of the game.

It might be worth it to pay attention to future multi-platform titles that have expensive marketing deals with the Xbox platform. Games such as Evolve, The Witcher 3, The Division etc.

Here's how the next week will go.

The anger amongst the internet will pick up steam.
Games journalists will laugh and claim that everyone are idiots for caring about this.
The internet public won't care about what the journalists say.
Ubisoft will retract the statement and claim it's pushing both systems to the max and that resolution hasn't been locked in yet.
The game will have a patch for 1080p on PS4.
The games journalists will once again prove that they are becoming largely irrelevant and don't speak for the public.
This.

They should critize Ubisoft for this practice. Journalists?smh

Guys,guys....lets not overreact here.

Maybe its the PS4 thats holding the game back and MS are telling Ubisoft to downgrade the XBone's Unity so that they can have parity and stop any fighting!

Sarcasm dripping off every single letter of that post btw

Am I hallucinating or did you post the same thing earlier in the thread?

Godspeed this thread.

I don't think it's that serious but wow, the reactions. Am I the only one who doesn't necessarily think this is a huge problem but more like an honest but bullshit comment.

At least they were honest about why they didn't do it.

Isn't that what we wanted? Transparency?

LMAO at parity for consoles. More like Microsoft dropping that dime to make us limit ourselves.

Really wish these people had the balls to just tell the truth instead of shit in our face then make us eat it when the outrage grows to big. you already know they have some bs excuse cooked up to respond if this makes enough noise online. "Bu...bu...bu.. the consumer"

I saw this coming the moment MS announced the Tomb Raider exclusivity deal.

It was obvious that the Xbox division got MS aproval of spending a lot of money to try to reach PS4 sales. Exclusivity deals and Parity deals shows this.

Wii U said:
''It couldn’t, it really couldn’t. I mean this is why we from the beginning, this was going to be a new-gen-only title, because the crowds aren’t aesthetic, they actually have impact. If we did anything to hinder that or to reduce that it would have a detrimental impact, it wouldn’t be the same experience. I don’t think that would be fair to fans, to sell the same game but with different levels of experience. Even the seamless nature of the series and the scale of the game right, we couldn't do that. We never load Paris. It wouldn't be possible, in our minds we’d be cheating fans by providing a lesser version of the same game.''

So not taking advantage of the PS4's better specs is not considered providing a lesser version of the same game?

Am I hallucinating or did you post the same thing earlier in the thread?

Not hallucinating, pretty certain he did. Damage control is already at 11. Posting completely irrelevant stuff about Azure in a thread about Ubisoft needlessly lowering the resolution of a game to keep MS sweet with the marketing dollars.

yea no thanks ubisoft. I had a hard enough time trying to convince my friends to buy the game for some coop with me when it comes out, but this will surely break the camels back.

No, I think it's great that they're being honest about it. Especially for us as customers, it's more the fact the guy basically says, we can't be arsed listening to arguments so we'll set both games to run at the same standard.

Bear in mind AC:BF was 1080p (eventually) and the reason he cites is AI being CPU bound for environment density (the Parisian crowds). Yet, didn't they release Watch Dogs just last year with statements like this:

To put it another way we know from this quote that the previous gen consoles were scaled back:

Basically it's lazy. For Watch dogs they had to make an effort to show the disparity between last gen and current gen. Now they can trot out the CPU bound excuse because of the following:

Also, didn't Mark Cerny say he specifically chose the architecture for PS4 so you can offload compute from the CPU to the GPU?

The worse thing is, the guy hasn't even said that the extra horsepower on the PS4 will be utilised for higher fidelity, or more post processing. He's basically flat out said it was never in the design process. They've made a game for XB1 and then ported it to the PS4 like for like.

To be honest I'm not really that bothered, it just makes it easier for me to vindicate a no 'instant buy' for it. Still might pick it up when it's further down the line and I get bored again.

The CPU-bound claim is utter bullshit.
Anyone who's doing multi-core programming must be laughing their ass off.
They choose the lowest common denominator then invent bullshit for the masses.
