Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

This thread is just heating up.

I cant wait for a ubisoft response to gamers reaction to this. Good lord I hope they respond.

They already did. They basically completely dodged the question by saying Unity performs up to how they planned. They do not in any way address though if there was still more horsepower left in the PS4.

And yes guys I know I said I was bouncing but this thread has some great discussion going.

If one of the console makers did influence Ubisoft to purposely gimp the port of the game on the competition's console wouldn't that be against the law?

Most Favored Nation clauses are a source of heated debate right now as far as competition and regulation goes.

It's a gray area. We don't know yet.

Do we know if the games are at full parity?

Resolution parity is one thing but it's not really parity if the PS4 is using better AO, AA etc.

This is why so many of us are choosing PC as our 'console' of choice!
Maybe we'll buy Assassin's Creed at some point, maybe we won't. But that's not the point.

Sooo tired of the console war already!!!

I stand corrected on Cod. It will be interesting to see if other publishers do the same as Ubi with AC. I'm off the opinion that publishers would rather keep the performance and graphics equal.

We'll know pretty quickly with Advanced Warfare, because the Xbox One version has one of the most bizarre resolutions that we've seen so far, 1568x882.

Wait a second... you're talking down to someone because of their agenda, when your agenda here has clearly been how great the PS4 is and how developers should spend extra time making the PS4 version superior, and how it won't cost them extra money to do so?

How is that fair?
You act like getting PS4 to 1080p is some monumental task. It's not. It's been done on many other games.

I'm not asking for games to have more particle effects or better lighting on PS4, I'm asking for the PS4 version of the game not to be held back because the Xbox One can't handle 1080p. That's not too much to ask. Developers should do their best to take advantage of both consoles. Fuck the politics.

Oh cool another jposter with a terrible driveby post that adds nothing to the thread, except OMG look at me im mustardrace.

The preview build is shit as some posters have mentioned in this thread. So I'm not expecting much to be honest.

I'm just saying you have no right to talk down to someone about their agenda when you clearly have one yourself that you aren't bashful about.

Well.. cheers Ubi, i've gotten 6 hours of entertainment out of this thread so far, roughly about the same amount of fun i get out of every AC game since AC2. So thanks for instigating this here debate.

And Assassin creed games have be a perfect model of how to do a PC port haven't they?

Oh....wait.

* MS are marketing AC:Unity.
* Post-Mattrick, MS have made great effort to close performance gap.
* MS told Blizzard it was 'unacceptable' for Diablo to not match the PS4 in performance.
* MS enforces parity for release dates and features with indies.
* MS are happy to spend money to impact competitors versions (buying exclusivity etc).
* 3½ months ago, Ubi announces the PS4 version was targeting 1080p/60.

YOU DO THE MATH.

They have been closing the performance gap by sending engineers to help out with the ports of some games. Theoretically that might have even taken place here, although that's just speculation. Diablo doesn't match the PS4 in performance, although it is close - and that's not a particularly good case for comparison since Diablo 3 is a game which runs on a toaster oven without major performance issues. The consoles are getting you the same experience as the PC version despite far superior PC hardware - it's just that kind of game, it doesn't scale up very high. And Ubisoft announced that this game was targeting 1080p/60fps on both Xbox One and PS4, not just PS4. It is achieving neither metric, and is (apparently) CPU limited in terms of framerate. It never could have been 60fps on PS4, even if they somehow crippled the resolution.

You're trying hard to spin this to make it sound like it's a sure thing, but it's actually quite a serious allegation and there is nothing firm about this.

Ubi clearly thought it was better like that ( = they would earn more money) otherwise why would they do that ?

They want to "avoid debates" it just doesn't make sense to gimp your own game to "avoid debates". They obviously think they make more money that way. Or MS gave them money... Or there were threats from MS.

They think PS4 owners won't care. Unfortunately, it seems they were wrong.

I think my wording mistakenly implied that non-1080p wouldn't have an effect on sales overall, instead of my intended statement that non-parity would likely not lead to lost sales of the XBO version. If that's what you came away from it, sorry for my mistake.

Doubt Microsoft made threats...they really aren't in the position to have been making them for the better part of their new platform's release. Again, was probably just an additional clause to their marketing agreement, just like with Sony and Activision in regards to the Destiny content.

I don't understand anything about what is going on anymore. Too many theories and too many emotions are in this thread.

*patiently waits for one of those classic thread summaries*

According to Ubi's response, they basically stopped PS4's development after they reached the limits of the Xbone. Even that is complete bullshit.

It's really not that hard to read between the lines. Microsoft hasn't exactly earned the benefit of the doubt with consumers.

I think basically what they were saying is

"Xbox One was the lead console due to marketing deal, we just ported over what we did on there and nothing more..... To stop debates, that you will just debate anyway"

Just to throw a little fuel on the fire....

The event that I was at to play Far Cry 4, Unity was completely absent even though there was many games there coming out far later. Including Ubi games like Far Cry 4 and the Crew.

Maybe Ubi really did botch the Creed engine.

edit: and Im referring to hands on demo being absent. It was there in other forms.

What does this have to do with AC games though? They all run like shit on PC its why I stopped purchasing them on PC after AC3 and bought 4 on PS4 because for once I could enjoy an AC game at a good resolution and steady frame rate.

This is fucking embarrassing to read. While I agree that the reasoning is complete bullshit, saying that one of the competitors payed one of their publishing partners to reduce the quality of their own product on their competitor's platform is ridiculous.

In an industry where paid exclusivity, DLC, timed DLC, map packs, preorder bonsues etc... is commonplace, a parity clause (for a game MS is marketing no less) is suddenly a stretch? When we have evidence of a parity clause from MS (re: indies) already?

@ThoseDeaf : What you say doesn't match what Ubi said. They explicitely stated they kept their game 900p on both platforms to avoid debates. You could hardly be clearer in your choice of words.

It means you could do 1080p on PS4 but you chose not to do.

But Ubisoft games suck on PC and how can.... wait a second..

...how is this clown not banned already?

Oh you sweet summer child.

I doubt they went to Ubisoft HQ with a brown paper bag full of cash. But seeing as MS are co-marketing the game, there will be negations around payment there. Platform holders also have full discretion around back-end royalty payments and breaks from Gold/PSN, which they use to leverage favour or exclusivity with big publishers.

FYI it's paid, not payed.

Ubisoft is intentionally keeping parity between consoles for resolution/framerate, you know, "to avoid gamer drama"(whoops, did I say that out loud?)

Ubisoft then backpedals on that notion, claiming that this was the plan all along, and there is no downgrading going on.

That's how I understand it anyway.

It makes no sense for XB1 to be lead console when they are releasing on PC. They would develop on PC, and then optimize for PS4/XB1 individually.
