The Order: 1886 sure is, uh, cinematic

God almighty, why is this vertical slice still being demoed and why are journos still writing about it? We know it sucks, we've known for months.

lol, you know, if this game was announced as an Xbox1 exclusive it would be THE most anticipated new IP with daily commentaries of "This game shows what the Xbox1 can do" "Most impressive game of the generation" "Can't wait looks like incredible experience".

Why did you even bother posting this? It's childish and adds nothing to the discussion. Go take your console warrior nonsense elsewhere.

yeah I especially liked videogamers classic preview where they said:

"This is THE most anticipated new IP" And made commentaries of "This game shows what the Xbox1 can do" "Most impressive game of the generation" "Can't wait looks like incredible experience"
Microsoft buys reviewers I'm sure.

A demo on PSN before release please

Hopefully something other than this one because on top of being super short and to have been previewed to hell and back it sucks.

I played it quickly on monday and for the whole 5 minutes of it I just wanted to leave and play Bloodborne instead.

I can't help but feel that this preview was written just to pile on the negative impressions. Not that the writer isn't allowed to be negative about the game, but some of the complaints just seem odd. How attached can you get to a character that you've met just a couple seconds ago in a vertical slice of gameplay? Why would you expect to know anything about the story and the context when looking at the sheet of paper in the game world? I also think that it's funny that he said the game was super cinematic, but then laments the fact that looking at the sheet of paper didn't prompt a quest or cutscene.

Then again, I get the feeling that the writer is already predisposed to hating cinematic third person games. His Quantum Break preview, while noticeably more positive, isn't exactly glowing, and he continues to take issues with cinematic presentations there as well.

This preview seems more focused on the story than the gameplay. I mean we seem to have to get like half way through the preview before we even start to talk about gameplay. I don't care that the narrative you're stuck in the middle of doesn't have an impact on you, talk about how the game fucking plays.

I love the look of the game but watching it in terms of gameplay it looks a bit monotonous, would like to try it before a purchase

I'm a big werewolf fan, and I love the look of the game. Definitely not writing this one off until I can watch some footage of the final release, read reviews, and then decide for myself. Hoping for the best!

I don't usually like Gears of War style games with cover shooting etc but I will definitely be buying this. Love the look of the game and the location as well as the world (supernatural/Tesla).

Begs the question why they are still letting people play a months old demo that hasn't largely been met with great impressions.

Nintendo did this with Eternal Darkness up until nearly 2 months before release. Hopefully Sony has the good sense to push it back a lil longer after a good demo finally surfaces.

I dont mind cut scenes,in fact I love them when they are well done and all,I just hope they are not the type that stops gameplay every 15 seconds...like you get control of your character, you move them 20 feet and then the game takes over with a short/or long cutscene, then back to you for 1 minute then bam another cutscene that breaks you controlling the game...I hate those when it's non stop like that...

I think this game would be fine, as long as you're not expecting something very inventive or gameplay-heavy like Bayonetta.

Many people said Ryse was terrible, and while I think it's certainly not super awesome, it's actually not as bad as people made it out to be. Loved its cinematics, story-telling, characters, settings, visuals, music and even the execution moves were quite varied despite boiling down to QTE.

At this point we are looking at a demo that has in some form been around since this time last year, Game Informer had first look. I for one cannot base the final game on this extremely old demo, set in the very early game. The Gamescom trailer was a much better look at what potentially the game will be like to me, and is the reason I am still very excited.

Reports on this demo are just overdone at this point, and somewhat of a failure on journalists just as much as the developer. Sure the dev could take time away from the final game to make another demo and risk delaying it further, blame can lie there for sure, but gaming press should be more aware of the context of this demo before publishing a story. Especially IGN who has now ran 3 concerned articles about the final product on the same demo from 3 different writers.

Game was delayed once already. Seems they don't have any resources available for new preview code.

Certainly a possibility, but surely exposing it to more people will only cause more problems.

Nintendo did this with Eternal Darkness up until nearly 2 months before release. Hopefully Sony has the good sense to push it back a lil longer after a good demo finally surfaces.

I think a real risk is that Ready at Dawn bury their head in the sand and work non-stop to finish the game, not recognizing some core concerns that have been flagged since the first hands-on impressions appeared. And at that point it will be too late.

Slow news day, let's write another preview for the same demo.

When the press are getting nothing else, what can they do? Would you rather the game be forgotten about?

It's difficult to discern the quality of a game like this from a chapter in the middle of the game.

This is a game in the same ilk as Gears of War, five minutes of fun...wash, rinse and repeat.

If a small vertical slice is boring, that suggests there could be a problem.

Infamous met my expectations.

I still have some hope for this game. Even TLoU seems boring when taken out of context. It's difficult to discern the quality of a game like this from a chapter in the middle of the game.

Even if this is shit, Bloodborne will fill the hole in my heart.

Definitely not. Any piece of TLoU that I play would have me thinking A. This is really fun. B. The voice acting is great. Etc.

Anyone who preordered this game out of a non necessity/deal is a part of the problem. It could be a total flop but you're giving your money to the publisher anyway.

Yes and yes. I find it ridiculous that people are calling a WHOLE game boring based on the same short demo. I guess TLOU was just a cover shooter based in a hotel.

Totally different dude, the demo of TLOU done a great job of conveying how dynamic the gameplay could be from stealth/ brawler/ shooter, 2 months before release the game already had a public beta, and Naughty Dog were very open with the game.

The Order is set to realease in little over 2 months, yet so much of it is needlesley underwraps, we have no idea how its going to play, outside of the visuals and filmic cinematic look of the game, which are a given in this day and age.
And they stil persist on showing the same lukewarm demo, doing the game very little favours. It seems that everytime this game pops up there are more questions than answers.

What's even more frustrating is that Bloodbourne a game announced this year in June and is set to release atound the same time, has had more exposure, and in turn a more positive pre-release reception than The Order, we know more about the former than the latter a game announced over a year ago

I had never seen the word "filmic" before this game was announced. Is it even a word, and if so, how is its meaning any different from "cinematic?" I fucking hate "filmic."

As for the game itself, I can't say I'm excited for it. I liked the first three Gears games, but I feel like I've already seen everything the genre has to offer. Walk and talk, roadie run to next set piece, "hmm, there sure is a lot of waist-high cover strewn about," bang-bang-bang, reload and repeat.

Certainly a possibility, but surely exposing it to more people will only cause more problems.

When the press are getting nothing else, what can they do? Would you rather the game be forgotten about?

At this point nearly every trade show has come and gone, so I don't think a new demo is the best use of their time, and on that same token it is too close to release to make sweeping game design changes.

That said it would be awesome to see a new developer controlled demo possibly at the Playstation Experience. That would not require a separate demo to be made, and would still do a great job of showcasing the game in a new area with new weapons etc.

I don't think there will be an updated demo, if they are sticking to the release date.

Maybe not an updated demo, but an alpha/beta build perhaps?

I think something like that should be possible by December. I can only assume the reason the game went into complete radio silence is because they want to focus on making sure the game, by December, will be in a state where it's playable in longer play sessions, and more weapons than the demo.

I feel the same way too. The demo is like 10 minutes long https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h55y7DViiJo
Did he really expect emotional investment in such a short piece, for a guy that literally dies a minute in?

After watching that video the game doesn't look super cinematic either, in its gameplay it looks like a normal 3rd person shooter, hardly the QTE fest that was feared. Some of the criticism this gen (inFamous not having next gen gameplay, Driveclub being a corridor racer) have been hilarious so I will not be surprised what some of the review writers will come up with next to justify docking points.

It's time RAD showed a newer build and probably not preview 10 minute segments if they don't wanna hear the same complaints (I dunno what I'm doing, what is the context of this object, why is the game like this).

This game is gonna get murdered if they don't have any respectable gameplay. No one gives a shit about graphics or story if your game plays just likeke 20## shooter released ages before.

Gameplay >>> Everything else. I hope Ready at down don't forget this.

Judging from what we've seen so far, you're probably right. It also doesn't help the fact that this game is scheduled to be released Spring next year. They either would have to delay or pull out a miracle with the time they have left.

I think it's ironic and somewhat funny how gameplay of a big next-gen project has returned to that of an FMV games, notorious for their 'passive' gameplay sections and shooting galleries.

Based off...the only level ever played so far?

journalists seem hate it, but we do know that they hate stopping play, e.g. stop for cinematic.

I need some cinematic fix after I've finished off Syrim, which damn no cinematic at all. MMO style cut-scene and hold forward all the time lack my feeling.

And I felt no tinge of sadness for the other squad member that dies--good ole What'shisname--after a little scene where you drag his bleeding-out-body into cover, firing a pistol at a few swarms of enemies on the roof.
You played a vertical slice of a narrative and didn't get emotionally invested enough to be sad about the death of a guy you haven't gotten to know? Color me surprised.

To bring something like this up you have to almost be wanting to find things wrong with the game you're playing.

How awesome would it be if only the first few areas were a shitty third person shooter thing but then later on it opened up into a semi-openworld type game with puzzles and gear/weapon progression. I got my fingers crossed for that.

The Order threads are always entertaining to read, if not eventually repetitive.

Plus I could say the same about Infamous. There was pretty much no negativity surrounding that game before release, and that was a game that ended up disappointing.

Who did it disappoint? It was shallow, but I enjoyed it a bunch. Impressions from GAF seemed mostly positive, and it has decent review scores. I'm really not sure where this overwhelming disappointment comes from, unless you're trying to paint some sort of rewritten narrative.

This game will almost undoubtedly review "poorly." The good thing is, reviews don't actually determine how good the game is... and I can't wait to play this game. Looks amazing. Very story-driven, which is my type of game.
