Jagged Alliance 2 is the king as far as I'm concerned in this genre. It's from 1999, so it looks dated. But if you're okay with that, I'd highly recommend it. Like Valkyria Chronicles, every unit is unique with their own personality and dialogue. It doesn't have a set linear mission structure as VC and the storyline isn't as indepth, but on the flip side it offers you more freedom and it's more of an RPG than VC.
Personally I have a preference for Incubation above JA - it did full-3d tactical combat, including the dramatical enemy-view camera-angles and boss-fights more than 10 years before VC or the new XCom (in fact new XCom looks like it took inspiration from it - I doubt it's a coincidence).
Very strong take on tactical combat isn't a surprise given that it was part of Battle Isle series, and the only negative, if we call it that - was that it was a linear story with simple RPG progression like VC.
But yea also looks a bit dated now (PS1 era visuals ftw).

It's a way for Valve to keep that same money within their ecosystem
Valve takes 20% of those transactions - it's a money maker for them, possibly a major one (estimating from the sales numbers on cards I see).

Incubation was absolutely brilliant. Dripping with atmosphere, fantastic soundtrack, and that hotseat multiplayer...brilliant game.

I will gladly do it if nobody else has a higher claim to it.

Also, this re-release has me eying this again. I'm a sucker for a good artbook, and I know I'll want it once I start the game again.

That artbook is fantastic. It's huge and it has information on just about every single aspect of the game: characters, weapons, vehicles, chapters, promo material, interviews with the developers... it's a fascinating read. The ones for the sequel aren't quite as interesting, but they're also very complete.

Anyone know what kinds of sales-percentages GMG usually accounts for for digitally released titles? I can't help but feel I want to try and extrapolate VC PC's GMG sales numbers based off of its position relative to CoD and Dragon Age.
lol

By the way, any bad ports (other than Watch Dogs) that made use of Nvidia GameWorks optimizations? Just noticed a disclaimer citing NGW below the system reqs on Steam. I already know this won't be bad - The question on my mind is if this will go beyond the call of duty when it comes to PC ports.

Let's start pointing that concerns about the game's position on sales charts are a bit premature now.
Games rarely perform particularly well on Steam when they are just preorders unless they are massively anticipated titles.
If we want to keep an eye at how the game will perform on Steam, we'll most likely need to wait for the release date.
Chances are the consequent word of mouth (if the port is well received) could make the difference as well.

Not concerned, just curious. Scholarly pursuits. That sort of jank. Honestly, at this point I think I'm going to go into blackout mode on this now - Every day I look at this the wait is killing me even though I've beaten this game before and have a massive backlog to try and clear before this comes out.

Not to mention that wiith a 25GB download even first day simultaneous players might not even be a great indicator. But I think in this case the GMG discount has propagated fast and wide enough to "hinder" Steam pre-orders aside from the sales and big releases. They even have a VC background right now, heh.

Just ordered the art book / design archive for this game.

I bought it on release at full price (which is a bit mad for me with books) and worth every penny. It's just over 400 pages and is more a design book than focused purely on art as it's chock full of details and insight into how the game was made. The characters section is really fleshed out and even touches on each of the recruits. There's also comprehensive breakdowns on the technology and georaphy all with snippets from the dev team, with a good pre prod and interview section to round it all off. Plus the art style for VC is gorgeous, right the way through every aspect.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I just realized it's coming out on Veteran's/Armistace/End of World War I Day.

Why is it everyone else has a VC background on GMG? Mine is still Football Manager 15 (Who/Why/How do these games keep selling every year? I don't even know a single person who plays them, or anyone who knows a guy who knows a guy who does! The only places I keep hearing about Football Manager are DD store pages, and no presence anywhere else, so what demographic is it even appealing to when FIFA games exist?)

It's appealing to pretty much every continent besides North America. And FIFA games are of a different genre altogether. Anecdotal evidence: practically all my male friends play both.

lol, media blackout is so easy for this game :V
Well I did see this game way back when lol. Don't know why I passed this up. Know the art style looks pretty good and its 3rd person shooter & rpg hybrid. Tha's pretty much it.

By the replies guess I should go purchase this and fill up my steam wallet.

Exactly. Asking why Football Manager would appeal to anyone when FIFA exists is like asking why people would be excited for Valkyria Chronicles when Dark Souls exists.

Someone's never heard of Fire Emblem, P.sure that was the first SRPG.

X-COM was released a year before Tactics Ogre, and Fire Emblem before that.

Laser Squad was before all of them, though. X-COM is reportedly its spiritual sequel but I've never played it so I don't know if it had the RPG thing going on.

Edit: Now I want to know what's typically considered the first SRPG!

lol sorry I was referring to the Tactics series and their followers like Hoshigami, Disgaea and the like.

Was the NES Fire Emblem really like Tactics Ogre? From appearances it looks quite different.

Alright, already. Didn't know it - Just curious since almost everywhere I've looked I've heard not even the faintest whispers about Football Manager, and at most the same question I asked of this and [Mundane Task] Simulator 20XX "Who even plays this? How does it sell so well?".

Anime (spoiler) talk?
I loved how the anime handled Vyse and quickly off screen killed him after he made his appearance.

There's one moment in the anime that was handled much better there than in the game.

It's a HEAVY STORY SPOILER so I'll put it in spoiler tags.

Welkin grieving after they retake Bruhl. He was a lot more human in that scene compared to the game where he doesn't even cry and displays little grief in comparison. Here's the scene for reference.

Agreed completely.

You. Yeah, you. You're a bad person! >.<

Couldn't help but save it for prosperity.

Doing my part, think I've convinced 3-4 friends to pick this up outside of the first 2 I told that insta bought it because they played it on PS3.

What is currently the cheapest way to buy it? Greenmangaming does not have it, I assume directly through Steam? unfortunately it is $18 USD compared to prices Americans see, as I'm from Australia.

What? I paid $18 through Steam to get it. $20 with 10% off. This game is easily worth that. I'm not sad at all that I didn't save an extra $4 from getting it on GMG. Are you saying AUS is much higher?

I always though he needed to show more emotion after that part. Was weird that Rosie grieved more than he did.

Haven't watched the anime. All I know is that they added a love triangle and that alone is enough for me to not bother with it at all.

No, what I'm saying is I obviously cant read for crap and mistook the Pound for dollar with the image above :)

I already have the game on PS3 and I would like to double dip however 18 while not steep is just slightly past my impulse day one purchase mark.

However if it turns out to be a good port, I will definetly pick it up, again sorry for the confusion the image above I read as $13 and not 13 pounds.

Sega, historically, has actually a very good record when it comes to PC. At the very least Sega has confirmed 1920x1080 and 60 FPS.
The biggest exception was probably Typing of the Dead Overkill, and that sounds like kind of a weird case.

Have the issues with that game been fixed? I don't remember too much specifically, I believe it was rendering at a reduced resolution.
