I don't understand people who play like this and pick characters like Evil Ryu. Why bother pick something like.....
poison....

Air basically exploited Smug's biggest weakness, lack of real footsie game and button pressing everywhere. Love Me Tender is so low risk and high reward if your opponent likes to press buttons.

smug doesn't lack footsies, his footsies are really good considering dudleys t-rex arms. People are always noting smugs uncanny abilities to counterhit with stand roundhouse, it's not easy even if you do know when your opponent is going to press buttons. Poison is just a difficult matchup(maybe even moreso than juri), plus Airs is probably the best he's fought yet. Airs poison is really nice

All he does is push buttons and bully people and hope for the best. Against people who know how to block and deal with pressure, Smug's game is completely exposed and isn't hard to beat.

nah bruh, dudleys whole game is to bulldog the opponent. He has really good footsies considering thats not at all the characters strong point. I think you aren't giving the guy enough credit, if his game is so one dimensional then what does that say about the rest of the east coast? the kid is just nice.

I know people really don't care much about Tekken... but South America just 3-0'd the world champ Saint from Korea to eliminate him from the TxT tournament. It was a Ling/Lei user as well.

Shook!

Smug lacks footsies?

What?

Smug's a bull-rusher and a counterpoker. He's either going through your shit or counterpoking into a combo. He doesn't control the space, he just eats it. It's largely a limitation of Dudley, though it's gotten a bit better in Ultra. Dudley just doesn't have the buttons for it in general.

Two T. Hawk players talking like they actually understand footsies
jordanlaff

This coming from a Deejay. Kappa

T.hawk has ridiculous good buttons for footsies, too bad no one actually knows this.

I agree that he tends to mash on defense, but his neutral footsie game is above average. His whiff punishing is better than most, he converts off the most awkward confirms like he's playing an anime game, and stuffs people's normals like he's telling them when to press buttons.

I think you guys are crazy.

Totally disagree. Pay attention to Smug's corner game in particular. He really knows what implied pressure is and controls that space really well. His Dieminion matches are a great example of this. Smug goes in, but he picks his moments well by approaching incrementally while blocking, which is a fundamental footsie approach.

I'm sorry, you guys are just wrong.

I have to see this, hope it's uploaded somewhere.

Yo really? Damn, I wish I had watched that instead.

I didn't say he mashes. I said he doesn't have footsies. For the longest time, he relied on people not knowing the Dudley matchup and getting shook from his pressure in order to get his wins. Dudley can convert off of counterhits fairly well, which is what lets Smug do his thing. Stick out a limb, pray for a counterhit, go to town. Rinse/repeat, etc. But when he fights someone who can deal with pressure, or someone who straight up won't get bullied, Smug falls off hard.

Smug is crazy talented, but he has a lot to learn still.

That's not what you saw, you saw a Dudley lose to a damn good character with a good poking low that converts to damage and pressure. Fighting Poison is kind of like fighting Yang with a fireball and overhead that can convert into a knockdown. She's in complete control of the neutral in that matchup so she gets more chances to apply pressure than Duds does.

naw.Whiff Punishing and taking space are core parts of footsies. Dudley's rush-down into mvc combos just cloud smug's footsie skills. He just lost to a unfamiliar matchup. Poison's crackshoot is just a good option against Dudley.

word. It's like fighting yang/juri rolled into one.

She's got one of the best counters with her Sleepy Toad custom too. If you hit the opponent with it you can get a fully charged Smash attack in afterwards at mid-high percents.

Going to have to unlock that still. I've been way behind on unlocking customs recently.

So, there will still be a WNF without LevelUp? Or maybe they cannot call it WNF.

Edit:
