I think I am going to plunk down the money to start making fighting game tutorials on Youtube. Is there a guide anywhere on the kind of equipment/software you need to make something good?

Define good.

If you're just thinking about the visuals, try to find a streaming guide. A way to get the video you need, likely a capture card, and software to edit it, what probably doesn't matter, seem like the most basic requirements. A mic if you want to talk over the video instead of using text.

What game are you gonna focus on?

I plan on splitting my attention between Xrd and Smash, but I'll try and include most games as I go, assuming all goes well. I don't even know what software out there handles video editing, or does it well. I know to get a capture card, I just don't know what capture card to get. It'd have to work on the PS4 and Wii U. Are decent mics expensive?

This looks useful for capture cards. And maybe this.

Any free video editor you find online would probably be enough for editing unless you want to be super professional. Mics, no idea. Maybe ask here.

SRK might also have stuff on streaming.

Oh, and 6:45 streams. Maybe shoot him a pm. That's all I can think of.

This is probably way too much, but check out this guide. Part 1 and 2 are more what you need, I think, and that post links it as well. Part 1 covers capture cards, part 2 recording audio.

Preordered GG Xrd for PS4, have 2 PS3 and one 1 360 arcade stick. Man.....

I don't have my PS3 hooked up anymore. Was thinking about moving it into the kitchen TV and hide the PS3 in the cupboard. Having a stick cord coming out of the wall would be hilarious.

If you ordering xrd for ps4 I got no stick sympathy for you.

Made a new Doom tutorial vid on some tech I saw Apologyman use a while ago. Not sure if it's practical, but it's pretty cool!

Dude this music.... melts in chair

ArcSys sure is a swell company.

Please have sympathy for me!
Gonna wait a bit on the stick. I'm certainly gonna get my ass handed to me by the majority of anime players on GAF.

As far as editing goes there are a lot of decent to good free options. Adobe Premier Elements is $99 and should do everything you would need. iMovie is also a nice simple paid editing program if you're on Mac. Corel VideoStudio is also very good and only $50.

The AVerMedia Live Gamer portable is good and simple to use capture card. It can be used on PS4, I believe. Here's a tutorial.

You can pick up a decent USb microphone for around $40 A desk stand should un under $10.

I'm having 2nd thoughts on buying the Hori XB1 stick right now. I should probably wait to see what happen with Capcom's fighting game.

I don't think the Aver LGP supports 60 fps, does it? Now that YouTube supports 60FPS, should you get a capture solution that captures in 1080/60?

Which character in Xrd is the most approachable? I tend to play with a counterpunching style, watching for openings and getting damage with shorter, simpler combos, so hits need to count.

There's no patch list yet, but the Wii U version seems to already have the patch implemented, so people have been noticing some differences between the two versions.

From what I can remember:
-Item throw cancel glitch removed.
-Bowsercide now no longer grants wins on the last stock; sudden death instead.
-Greninja can no longer Shadow Sneak cancel aerials.
-Luma now takes 13 seconds to respawn, up from 8.
-Palutena's attacks all do an extra bit of damage now (1-3% increase).
-Megaman's Rush cancel glitch removed.
-Some kind of Yoshi glitch removed - I don't remember.
-Wario aerial momentum glitch removed.
-Olimar's Pikmin now have significantly improved AI (not sure on the specifics).

According to someone with the game on SmashBoards, air dodge cancels are still in (yay!). There are probably a lot of other changes, but this is all that people have noticed thus far.

Eh, I never played Melee competitively. I don't have any handle on how to play it properly in practice, and one of my students has been a competitive Melee player for years. I don't think I would be doing the bodying. Plus he mains Fox. :-P
The bowswercide loss is a bit of a let down, but at the same time I can completely agree with it. Looks like a solid list of changes

I don't see what's so special about a Slayer Danger Time combo that starts at half life on Chipp.
Huh, chip starts with 100%

When are the TE2 (sf4,persona,xrd) sticks coming out? I feel like they've been on pre order forever. Xrd is out next month and I want the sad for xbone to play some KI.

Oh shit, I was looking at the wrong lifebar. Are my eyes deceiving me, or is Slayer taking some damage at the end, there?

LOL the end of the video isn't from the same combo, the combo is in round 3 the end of the video is at round 4 xD

You can tell by the screen placement at the end and the wins

Wait, so the vid is edited in some way? I can't really tell because I'm on mobile it's a blurry mess.

So, according to the SNK webpage KoF98UM should come out on Steam this friday right? I probably worry over nothing, but the fact that there's been literally no news on it and that the official site only says "winter 2014" concerns me :/

Oh, well that was confusing.

You should try collaborating with others on resources already out there before making your own series of tutorials

Because, no offense but isn't this your first guilty gear? Why would you be thinking about making tutorial vids for a game you don't even actively play yet?

We got an elitist here fellas, lets make him pay. Kappa

Lol wtf that's way too late for most people to give a fuck.

They really need to bring it to the PS4 ASAP.

I'm not trying to discourage him, just trying to understand lol

Karst is a teacher tho right? And plays other fighting games... It could be interesting to see his approach to learning a new fighter. I remember when mvc3 came out it was cool to watch trag's streams of figuring the game out from scratch. But yeah I think you have to follow what everyone else is doing too, and not just repeat the same stuff. I wonder how many dp fadc ultra tutorials are out there.

Streaming yourself learning is completely different and I think that's a wonderful idea

Branding it as a tutorial seems a little over ambitious though. That's something best left to people who already know I feel.(know the games and how to capture and edit video footage in a professional way. Rarely are good tutorials one man jobs)

at least he's not asking for $8k in crowdfunding to do it

I don't think there's anything wrong with that lol

Problem with Norvril's campaign was that the target audience for his content is the absolute layman. People who aren't even invested in the games enough to use the existing free resources.

To be honest, I probably learned a lot about Marvel and fighting games through my desire to make content showing off little tricks and my general mindset to using tools with my team, even though it was the first time I'd ever gotten serious about getting good in a fighting game, especially one that wild.

slayer would be a good choice for u...esp if u come with a capcom background (most of his comboability is link based)

Slayer is pretty much made for baiting the opponent into overextension and then ripping him a new one. Millia and Ky should also be good with a style that tries to goad the opponent into hanging themselves.
