For people who don't like the Marvel Studios movies, what is your favorite super hero film or do you think one even exists?

Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins. 2 movies filled with character development and thematic depth found in none of the Marvel Studios movies.

I'm sure there are people that like Spiderman or Xmen or Batman and dont like the Marvel movies nearly as much.

All good choices Blade made comic movies viable again after what the 90s did to them but the correct answer is scott pilgrim vs the world. But I love Marvel Movies so what do I know

You are mixing up Paramount and Universal. Also Disney bought Marvel barely a year after IM1 and TIH released (August 2009).

Yea my bad. the point is still the same. Disney bought Iron Man after Paramount made it a success. They set the tone for the Iron Man movies and to most people made the best one. We are better served with Marvel Studios having to dig deep to find licenses for movies.

Well, I've been on record as saying I've enjoyed some of their films. I'm not on the other side of the spectrum, despite what you are trying to paint. Calling me a "hater" is ridiculous. I'm calling this thread how I see it, it's pretty crap. Praising Marvel to high heavens has been getting tiresome regardless. They've made some good flicks, but they've made more mediocrity. As a whole, the universe is a cool concept that will be filled with ultimately unfulfilling films.

Comparing them to Pixar was absurd, I called it out. Speaking ill of Whedon and Feige does not a hater make.

Iron Man 2 - Trash
Thor - Never Saw It
Captain America: The First Avenger - Holy shit, snooze.
The Avengers - Fell flat to me, not that great of an action movie even. Iron Man and Hulk were the only ones given any due.
Iron Man 3 - Fun enough though his suits were paper mache, I liked the ending.
Thor: The Dark World - Enjoyable enough, but I wasn't sure what to expect.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Great, great film. My favorite MCU film so far.
Guardians of the Galaxy - Second favorite, lots of fun.

Again, Paramount only distributed the films. They had jack shit to do with the creative side of the MCU, Marvel Studios was in control of that. It would be like crediting 20th Century Fox for the success of the Star Wars films when all the creative stuff was done by Lucasfilm.

A lot of the excitement for me is seeing the crazy ideas of guys like Ed Brubaker, Jack Kirby, Jim Starlin, etc. thrown up on the screen after all these years.

I could give a fuck about Marvel as a company. In fact, they have actively fucked over some of these individuals I admire. Steve Gerber and countless others.

It was nice of them to finally commit to helping Bill Mantlo after Rocket Racoon showed up in a film. That's something.

I agree, it's greet seeing that stuff on screen.

It just sucks that they're making billions of dollars while some of the writers/artist have to beg for decent healthcare. It's sad seeing something like the hero initiative has to exist when the industry itself is making a shitload of money off of their creative work.

Bad analogy. Even if I did find it amusing, that wouldn't necessarily follow that I'd support animal abuse. My entertainment wouldn't prioritize over a living creatures livelihood .

The kids acting was bad and amusing to me. The moms dialogue is the vague and melodramatic. The scene was made amusing to me by those things. I also felt sympathy due to the actual content, but it was narmy and thus funny. Not that cancer itself is funny. I thought that was clear from the context of the previous post, but I apologize if it wasn't.

Edit: actually, I'd also like to apologize for the sentence itself. At first I thought it was acceptable because i wasn't saying what the sentence being quoted, isolated from the rest of the post, implies. But on reflection, it's pretty tasteless thing to say even in context. I know someone who wrestled with cancer and they wouldn't like to hear that no matter the context, I imagine. I'd edit it out, but everyone already quoted it, so it's kind of pointless. I can only apologize to those which were rightfully offended. Marvel movies just need to stop with the whole "main character dying only to be brought back again later thing.
