Dragon Age: Inquisition PC performance thread

well this is super disapointing, cant seem to even hit 60 now O_o

i5 4690k, 16gb ddr3, 2x gtx970 SLI

turned off MSAA completely, HBAO from full to just HBAO and effects from ultra to high (the stuff you guys said affected the most) and still cant get 60 walking around the town when you wake up after the prologue, if I go near the huge mob of npcs outside the door it drops to 40s, otherwise its in the 50s :/

the weird part is, I turned all that one by one, and I never got improvements. if I turn it all back up, Ill go back to the 40s near the npcs aswell, wtf?

also my cards are at 50-60% usage now and they were at 90% in the prologue (before the new nvidia drivers)

Any way to show FPS with Mantle enabled?

Is the console available? Try perfoverlay.drawfps 1

If you can't access the console, you could try adding a text file called user.cfg in the same directory as the .exe and add that command there.

If that works, I'd be curious if "perfoverlay.drawgraph 1" works as well

Yes, the console works, so perfoverlay.drawfps 1 does the trick. drawgraph also works.

Interesting, stock is pretty far below recommended specs and all the previews said the game was very CPU heavy, that's why I OC'd to nearly a whole ghz more to 3.6, but I guess the 290 really makes up for that. Though you are at a slightly lower resolution, but 1680x1050 isn't that far off from 1920x1080.

Yeah, I'm surprised how long my CPU has held up. I would overclock, but I've never gotten into it and would be paranoid I'd mess something up. I'll most likely upgrade my CPU and mobo come cyber monday.

wait wait... turned all my settings back up to max, went fullscreen/vsync and now i get 60 (well 55-60 since its locked at 60) running around, even near the mobs it only drops to 50, and my cards usage went up.

SLI borked in borderless windowed maybe?

someone here who plays the game with something like my pc?

i7 3770k
ASUS GTX 780 DC2OC
16GB Ram

1440p.

Can I just put the game on the highest setting and do not think about it again?

oh and what is the best AA method?

thank you!

ok MSAA back to 4X, effects back to full, going to restart one more time since HBAO plus needs a restart, and keep it at fullscreen/ vsync. I was getting 60 near the mob of npcs now aswell with normal hbao so I dunno wtf is going on now

I have exactly the same configuration. Everything on max and 1080p, but MSAA off (it doesn't look much worse).
You should get constant 60FPS outside of the cutscenes. In dialogs it can get down to 50, but that's ok ;)

went from Ultra textura to Fade touched, Vram went from 2gb to 3,2gb, i dont see a diff O_O? gaf help, anyone compared screens ultra textures vs Fade textures? also it seems performance is not affected at all on my GTX 980, just 1 extra gb on my vram.

yup, for me at least, seems SLI is borked in borderless. fullscreen/vsync, everything maxed, constant 60, drops to 55ish near the big crowd of people. well ok then :)

OK, it works.

Now, just one more question. How reliable is the benchmark?

Well, SLI/Crossfire doest not work with windowed mode, afaik

I've had a lot of trouble telling the difference between the textures in this game. They all seem pretty good.

I just learned myself that textures shouldn't really impact performance unless it's trying to exceed your VRAM. The 4gig of the 900s should handle Fade touched just fine.

what is the latest version of the game?

I bought from Uplay. I thought i had a big 10gb patch but i think i might have actually downloaded that when i downloaded the game, not really sure.

When i boot it says 1.3.0

I just downloaded and install the new Nvidia 344.75 driver. But now it's saying I'm back to 344.65

wtf is going on? It doesn't even show the new driver when I click "check for new driver"

This game was running at 60 fps for me last night but since I got to the Hinterlands, the stuttering has been unreal and makes it unplayable. I did most of the tricks in this thread and downloaded the new Nvidia drivers today but nothing seems to help. I tried with the automatic settings and then on low as well but the terrible stutter is still present so I guess I am probably screwed until Bioware patches it.

This kind of shit really pisses me off, charge $60 for your PC port and it runs and controls like garbage. The worst part is, what I have played of the game is really awesome, but these controls and performance are souring me on the whole thing. Sorry for the bitching.

Be careful using 344.75 on Nvidia. I had massive stuttering on my 680 SLI setup because of it. Reverted to .65 and it runs like butter.

GPU usage on my single 980 went up 25-30% when I first stepped into the Hinterlands. Had to disable MSAA completely to compensate for the difference. ;-)

I have an i5-3750k and a GTX 680 2gb.

Sort of worried about performance, but more worried that this will convince me to push my new PC build up a few months when I don't want to spend the money right now. I have no self control.

I only have a 760 until my 970 gets here but I have had everything turned down and it still stutters really badly. I have tried all kinds of settings with no luck really. Does the game run perfectly smooth for you?
Did the new drivers give a great boost in performance?

How well would DA run on this:

4690K
GTX 770 4GB
16GB RAM
I have a 4770k OCed, GTX 760 and 16gb of RAM. The new drivers seem to have actually made performance slightly worse for me.

ok so basically fully maxed, never dips bellow 55 the lowest... im pretty happy about that. now that the technicaly stuff is out of the way, can I say...Dragon Age why you so pretty? O_o Good lord the game is fucking gorgeous

Got the game downloaded but haven't be able to play yet. From what I'm reading from you guys on specs like mine (3770k 4.5ghz w/ 780ti) I still need to turn MSAA off to achieve a consistant 60fps in all areas at 1080p

Is there anyway that I can take screenshots if I'm using Mantle as my API? Liking the extra 8-10fps but hate that I can't take screenshots. :(

If it isn't too much to ask could someone take some comparison screen shots or video, using the"perfoverlay.showgraph 1" command between DX11 and Mantle. I'm curious to see the CPU frametimes.

Try console command:

Screenshot.Render

It should end up in your My Documents probably under a directory name Dragon Age Inquisition or something along those lines.

Woah, you cant take screenshots using Mantle?

I suppose that makes sense in a way, but that would be a total dealbreaker for me.

Thanks for the info.

Would I have to type that into the command line every time I wanted to take one? That seems a bit too inconvenient to be a practical solution. :(

No, it's not perfectly smooth at all. There's always what appears to be a brief loading/streaming stutter in larger, more open areas such as the Hinterlands.

Got past the first "boss" and every cutscene after that ran at a smooth 60fps and not the juddery mess that it did in the beginning of the game. Weird. I only played 10-15 minutes after that, but still.

I'm not sure if it was a bug, but whenever I had mantle on, the game wasn't in my alt-tab menu. I had to go back to the game from the taskbar. Just another thing I found weird.

I have your same exact CPU and GPU.

Last night (before new drivers), it ran fine and acceptable to me at 1920x1080. Meaning 45 to 60+ fps

Everything on High. No MSAA, Medium Post-Process AA

I wonder if the in-game FPS solution isn't very reliable. It goes above 60 fps (even up to 70) with V-sync enabled.

Any word from Bioware about upcoming patches? The glitchy ground textures (sli problem?) and not-smooth frame rate are really killing my motivation to play.

had to drop MSAA to X2 from X4 in hinterlands to keep it at 60, otherwise it dropped to the 40s :) rest is still maxed

Not much difference, actually, but now I think Mantle is more stable. It seems it definitely needs a patch, though.

3570k/7870/8GB RAM - All Stock

Settings: Everything Ultra
MSAA - OFF

starting area is usually around 40-50 fps

sometimes i see dips as low as 35.

just quick check but seems to be working fine for me
