Assassin's Creed Unity -- The graphics "leap" we've all been waiting for.

I am about to leave for work, but will do some comparison shots when I get home. Unfortunately, i hear it doesn't work with SLI yet.

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphi...ame-Sampled-Anti-Aliasing-MFAA-Tested-GTX-980

It is underwhelming right now and only few games benefit from it. It only works on Maxwell cards for now but it will be available to Kepler owners.

Do we have pics with MFAA on yet?

Don't expect to see any picture of this technic (or at least accurate and satisfying pictures) any time soon:

" Interestingly, taking screenshots of MFAA doesn't work as it has with most other AA implementations. Users or reviewer's taking screenshots of MFAA with Fraps or similar capture utilities are not going to be the final image sent to the display; this same thing occurs with DSR-enabled games and screen captures. Instead, you need to use hardware capture to see the results of MFAA and we are already well-versed in that with our Frame Rating performance capture capabilities."

I believe so since Ubisoft may use a brand new engine for the next Assassin's Creed that will surely suit the consoles architecture thus making it more optimized for them and PC: http://www.thegamescabin.com/news-assassins-creed-unity-dev-may-utilise-brand-new-engine-next-game/

I think they read too much into it. We might see 2 "addons" to Unity, maybe in London or whatever and then something completely new like a real next gen sea (or other wide open landscapes) engine in 3 years. Or they might have something different cooking for next year and we see a true Unity sequel in two years, whatever...the first scenario sounds more probable.

Anyway, I am sure they wont drop this engine and I am sure with a year or more to refine it we will see some great improvements.

The game looks really sick. I´d love to play it. But I havn´t played 3rd and 4th and I´m not sure I wanna play them.

Would I miss out a lot by skipping them?
3 is basically the wrap up of the whole Desmond story and probably the best AC rivaling AC2, despite it's problems, 4 is like a spin off made from the sub pirating missions from 3 and that's about it,even it's references to the older games go nowhere, bit like the story so you can skip 4.

Alright...two more before I leave for work

I love how this looks on my Xbone, but after seeing all these PC screens, I'm worried that it will come out that I could have played this in 1080p on my PS4 except for some Ubi Political Statement Parity BS, and I'll really be sad. . . .

Its not parity. Trust me, the PS4 GPU isn't capable of 1080p in that game even though its more powerful than Xbox one.

Nope. The game is the most taxing of any game to date. Sure, there may be some unoptimized code.. but overall, I think the results speak for themselves.. the hardware is going to work hard getting these kinds of visuals.

Is this supposed to look good? It looks like I forgot to put my contacts in, but I didn't!

Looks like you need to get your contacts replaced then. Your eyes will appreciate it, but also ours, so we don't have to read silly statements like that this game almost looks last-gen again.

The hell are you talking about, there is plenty of GI there. just the fact that its subtle and not boosted to hell and back does not mean it isn't there, this is a way darker scene then those in ACU. and inconsistent my ass, the fact that they use a PBR renderer means that everything behaves the same and realistic.

not to mention that the order looks cg always in game and in cut scenes because use the same of everything in both the situations, unity not...it's so easy to look good in cut scene, but it's useless in 2014, we're not in ps3 era anymore.

I can't make any definitive judgements on The Order until I can really see it on my own TV. As of right now, even if it had the same new features that Unity has -- Unity still bests it in art direction alone.

I find much more impressive the order for his art direction and how it rapresent the victoria era, so nope, it's subjective how everyone "feel" the art direction. ^^

Gotta admit this thread has greatly peaked my interest in building a gaming PC!

My budget would allow for a latest generation quad core i5, r290x and 8gb of ram. How would this setup fair in the most demanding gamesnd including VR? Would this setup provide a large enough graphics keep over the ps4 validating the price of entry?

I wish I could see this game on PC with my own eyes so I could see what you see in it because from what I saw from the PS4 version, everything was subpar aside from crowd size.

Wow. Depressing that consoles are already that behind PCs this early into their life cycle. Gonna have to get a PC someday.
Devs are eventually going to find ways to get around the limitations as the gen goes on. Next year's AC for instance probably will have the same if not better visual fidelity at the cost of less npcs.

It's already been established that Unity only improves the hair simulation and facial animation during cutscenes, everything else is the same as during gameplay except for a few instances where the lighting in cutscenes is better due to hand placed lights to make it look even better.

Well from what I played of the Order AC Unity does not look remotely as good. Most beautiful open world game maybe.. Most technically demanding or advanced game so far maybe... But AC unity does not look CG. Order does. It looks like a Square Enix movie in motion at times.

I dunno how many of you can appreciate this, but having a 4K monitor and seeing some of these pics and games in native 4K is simply unreal. Downsampling is a nice alternative for those who cant afford or don't want a 4K monitor, but seeing it in native is simply on another level.

Great pics everyone!

Fuck you.

One day...

Super noticeable on the wood planks on the gallows or whatever they are.
Noticeable in a lot of areas, yea. The crowd looks better, which is a big one for this sort of game. It unfortunately doesn't seem to do a whole lot for foliage, though.

Like with the console versions of Unity the order probably looks better on actual tv screens. It doesn't impress me much because it's very obvious what kinda compromises they had to make to get it to look that good, hence the seemingly very large amounts of linearity and the loss of freedom in level design. Don't expect to see me gushing over the next David Cage game for the same reasons.

And so ? It's always a difference for me. The order is the same ALWAYS, in cut scenes and gameplay, i don't want to see any difference between cut scenes models and gameplay models. EVER! I hate this thing with all myself!

Damn, beautiful words, i can't wait! And in the december playstation event will be show new gameplay from never seen sections of the game on a stage demo! Yes!

because you have already played all levels from the game, sure...

So did you not enjoy Infamous SS either? Because it did the exact same thing.

Everything looks better when its farther away.
I sit quite close to my television actually.

I disagree. Lets move along.

This is a graphics leap thread. Level design is not the topic of discussion and not that AC unity level design is a work of art in any shape or form. Hopefully Order wont run like shit like AC Unity does.

Is that confirmed? I have no doubt the game will be a looker. I played it recently and it looks absolutely stunning. The gameplay portions are what I am worried about extremely. Let us hope those fears are addressed in December.

I wasn't talking about the gameplay being linear, I was speculating about the compromises the Order devs had to make to achieve that graphical fidelity so early into the gen.

i never played infamous, sorry. But i hate this thing in every game, exclusive or multiplatform game. And seems that the order is the first game for ps4 to do this or maybe not ? Same models for cutscene and gameplay are in other games for ps4 ?

Well then its not going to look any better on a TV than it does on a monitor. Unless you have a nicer display on your TV than with your monitor, of course! Which may be true for a lot of people, I suppose.
Well technically speaking my macbook pro which I don't use for gaming is 15-inch (1440 x 900) while my television 40 inches and 1080p. I'm not a big pc gamer.

Pretty sure that both Knack and Killzone have the same models for cutscenes and gameplay. And Infamous too in several instances. Although sometimes you can tell when the transition isn't completely smooth. http://gfycat.com/MealyScientificBabirusa

You're doing the same thing by proclaiming everything is the same for cutscenes and gameplay!!! You have no idea what the whole game is like and if they enhance certain scenes.

they already said that everything is the same in cutscene and gameplay for seamless transtion. If they will change the lighting in some cutscenes i don't know obviously but the models will be the same, and this is crystal clear from rad. ^^

yes confirmed from Andrea Pessino on twitter :D

Black flag has more impressive foliage, water and IQ by far.

Water and IQ comparing the PS4 versions? Sure. Foliage? No way. Some of the big leafy shrubs in AC4 looked good, but the trees were easily the worst looking element for me. The shrubs in Unity are about the same, but the trees are improved. Especially the way the light diffuses through the foliage now. In AC4 the trees looked way out of place because of the very unnatural way they reacted to the lighting, they didn't seem to have any translucency when lit by direct light.

In any case, the list of things AC Unity does better than Black Flag would be ten times longer than the list of things Black Flag does better than Unity.

yeah i see, so infamous sometimes use the same gameplay models and sometimes use more complex models ?
