For the lazy:

This is where it gets interesting!

I have some new information for you all! It might seem familiar (those “spies” reported well) but believe me its brand new. I’m back to give all of you the official specs for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on PC.

We have both the minimum and recommended specs to play the game, and while there’s a good chance your rig can pull off a variety of in-game settings with a different piece of hardware than what’s listed below, we hope this gives you a good idea of what you’ll need to see the Fox Engine in action on your home computer.

Minimum Specifications:

OS: Windows Vista 64-Bit or later
Processor: Core i5 SandyBridge 4Core (4 Thread) 2.7GHz or above
Memory: 4 GB RAM or above
Graphics: GeForce GTX 650 or above
DirectX: Version 11 or above

Recommended Specifications:

OS: Windows Vista 64-Bit or later
Processor: Core i5 SandyBridge 4Core (4 Thread) 2.7GHz or above
Memory: 8 GB RAM or above
Graphics: GeForce GTX 760 or above
DirectX: Version 11 or above

Well there you have it, in just a moment I’ll put this up on the main purchase page for easy reference. Hopefully most of you are already prepared. You might find upgrading PCs is just one of those things that gets easier the more you do it.

More important however is that you guys are getting your feedback in! The team has been very helpful and worked to get you clear answers to all your questions. We’re only a few weeks away from the release of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on Steam, but I’ll be sure to keep up with you for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and beyond!

You want to finish your missions in game and get those PC achievements, don’t you?

Looking good.

fyi, don't freak out about the recommended 8gb of ram, if the game can run with 4gb minimum you can probably cheese it and get away with that much on higher settings.

I hate that companies, even if they put out accurate specs (which is getting rarer by itself), do not quantify what "minimum" and "recommended" actually means.
It would not be so fucking hard to measure it, would it?

Does "recommended" mean 1080p/high/60fps ? Or 30fps ? Or medium ? etc etc

Looks like it's time to start planning a new computer build. It's been 4 and a half years.

I don't think I could play this at a level that would do it justice.

Intel i7 @ 1.6 GHz
6GB RAM
Radeon 5800 HD

I'm gonna need a new computer anyway if want to play this but the requirements are much lower than I imagined.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
I wonder if those are The Phantom Pain specs too?

probably not, anyway looking good.

important to remember: we're not getting a port of the ps360 version, we're getting a port of the ps4/xbo version.

Well, it's the same engine, right? One may think the PC version would be made as scalable as possible. Sorry if it seems like I'm complaining, my PC is old and I must deal with it!

I guess my ancient Q6600/9800GTX+ PC won't run it. But Xbox 360 and PS3 do! =(

There is a big difference though. For a start the game seems to require a Dx11 card. I believe the lowest end of that would be the GTX460 or GTS450.

Further to that, don't expect the minimum settings to equate to the 360 and PS3, which recent games don't tend to do. Wolfenstein demonstrates this, where the minimum settings are night and day comparing to the 360 and ps3.

As for whether they should put out 2 versions or a more broader PC version to appeal to both older and more recent hardware - I have no idea

I noticed with this and Nvidia's Far Cry 4 guide that 500-series cards aren't listed any more...

How comparable is a 560 Ti to a 650?

PC is the lead platform, isn't it?

560 Ti is far superior to the 650. The 650 is a budget tier card, surprisingly closer to the previous gts450 budget card, which is the lowest end dx11 card (I think)

Well, I have an i7 and a GTX 770, so I beat the recommended settings.

But I wanna get a 980 and beat the maximum settings. I will experience TPP flawlessly, dammit.

I suppose it is, but I don't really know how valid all this "lead platform" and "port" stuff is. Apparently Kojima Productions Japan are behind this, which would make sense, and nVidia may have a hand in this as well, so there is that to consider as well.

That's an old test, but the 560Ti should be well above.

Cheers everyone. Nvidia's branding strategy has always been inconsistent as hell. I'll obviously wait on some benchmarks for GZ and TPP, but it sounds like I can pick it up before my planned upgrade.

Wouldn't call it inconsistent. Think of cars with 3/4 number names. First number is the series, the rest are the performance.

As always, my primary interest is what specs are required for your average joe to get the same visuals as the ps4/xbo version. We have no idea how the game will run or what it will actually look like at either requirement level.

Agreed, annoys me to no end. What does meeting the "recommended" net me?

Dunno about that. If it were super easy on CPUs I would have expected maybe a modern i3 as a minimum. An i5 Sandy is still a pretty good CPU today. We'll just have to wait and see.

I agree.

I meant more along the lines of "The performance difference probably doesn't change much if you go from i5 to i7".

Maybe the only big jump comes from RAM/GPU in this scenario.

Game isn't in any way CPU bound?

That's why I was thinking. You're looking at something like an i5 2500S or 2300 as being the min requirement, CPUs that aren't far off four years old. Still solid chips, but I can't imagine the game being an issue even on an Ivy Bridge or a Haswell i3.

I assume "recommended" means PS4/XBO quality. The 760 listed certainly leads me to believe that.

Unless they add all sort of stuff this is going to be extremely easy to run.

I just hope the price isn't stupid or we can transfer from console GZ to PC TPP and get the extras for owning both. GZ was super fantastic on PS4 and TPP is day one for me but I want to play on the PC if I can because of course I do.

I was thinking more in terms of architecture and performance differences. Like with the 750 and 750 Ti, while being in the same "range" as the 650 was beforehand, are both Maxwell cards and a massive leap over that card. Also, skipping numbering so as not to confuse people with rebranded laptop cards.

It's not quite as bad as the whole 9/8800 GT/S/X classification system was back in the day, I guess.
