Wow, I had no idea HP was getting back into tablets.

The $99 tablet space is getting interesting. My guess is that Kindle is probably currently the best value proposition, but it never hurts to have more choices.

1GB ram?, yeah, that's gonna be painful.

Pass.

About time MS started competing with Android. Cheapest windows tablet was usually over $200.

I think something like this would be perfect for my grandmother. She wants to check e-mail and have basic internet access.

Runs fine in Lubuntu.

Lubuntu (or any Linux distro) with 1GB RAM is a very very different experience to Windows 8 with 1GB RAM.

W8 w/ 1GB ram or, fancy doorstop.

Expensive and useless doorstop, I can't see it having the build quality to keep a catflap closed, let alone a door :P

How does this compare to the Touchpad?

Well, one was $99 as a firesale price, the other is $99 before the inevitable firesale starts :P

Might want to wait until you can pick one up for less than the cost of a coffee at Starbucks :D

OEM's cry about their margins disappearing and they do shut like this. No one to blame but themselves.

They kind of have to with Android being open source no? The low-end market is being saturated with cheap Android tablets which probably sell way more the premium tablets so they are probably losing a ton not having a cheap Windows tablet.

I'm still surprised no one cares about a 100 dollar full windows tablet that comes w/ 2 free office subscriptions

Because we know by now when something seems too good to be true, it probably is?

Are there any reviews out yet?

I bought one, it's actually pretty good. Can't complain much for $99.

Don't expect to run any Steam games on it, but it does just fine with web browsing, email, even Office seems to run pretty well on it.

1GB of RAM was a huge amount in the XP days. People forget how small computers were back then.

did you get the signature edition from the MS store or the one from amazon?

These aren't far from the netbooks I got a few years back after I popped mine open and added more ram. Atoms chugged something awful but it had all my notes on it from college.

How is the battery life?

Battery life is so-so.

According to "powercfg /batteryreport" I've been averaging 6 hours, but I could probably get 7 to 8 hours if I turned the screen brightness down.

Got about 3 days in connected standby, but I think that will get better after updating the firmware and drivers.

For $99, can't really complain much.

I dunno y'all. You seem to saying it's terrible for this thing to even exist, but $100 for a tablet with an IPS screen that can do basic browsing, social media etc and comes with a 1 year Office subscription? That seems pretty reasonable.

I don't get why people are mad that a $100 tablet has 1GB RAM. There are iPad cases that cost close to a $100!

I picked one up for 80 dollars out the door, sold the office 365 key. Its a great device for the price. I used steam streaming on it last night with a ps4 controller and it worked well .
