DS2 would basically have to be rebuilt from the ground up to address all of the issues I have with it. A fancier coat of paint isn't going to hide its glaring problems. That said, I'll try to reserve judgment until I hear how these gameplay tweaks manifest themselves, but I'm not terribly hopeful.
The timing of its release is also really strange; who's going to go from Bloodborne back to something as recent as DS2? I honestly think a port of DS1 would fare better.
I think that's a mistake. There's a lot of drummed up negativity, with people being far more critical of it than they allow themselves to be with Demon's and Dark Souls 1.
Its still a good game.
Season pass was more a "save five dollars for this three pack" than anything. It was 25 individually it was 30. Same thing borderlands 2 did. They aren't going to make more dlc without charging for it.
There's so many of these generic posts that say "Sure, it was flawed, but it was still great" without addressing any of the criticisms.
- Abysmal hitboxes
- Ridiculous enemy rotation/tracking
- Enemies have unlimited stamina
- Encounter design boils down to being spammed with 10 enemies simultaneously
- Absurd geography - somehow, the top of a windmill has an upwards elevator into an underground lava pit.
- Huge visual and mechanical downgrade at the very last stretch before release.
- Soul memory
None of the above was "actively" searched for and it's disingenuous to imply that it was.
Souls is about combat, exploration, atmosphere, all of which are bungled in Dark Souls 2. I mean, with all of these factors being so deeply flawed, what's left?
Good thing I waited.
What does this even mean?It almost makes you consider the possibility that Bloodborne is going to wind up being another DS2: PS3 Edition.

I'd much rather have a Demon's Souls remaster.
We say actively looking for things because all those points are insignificant. Never noticed the weird hitboxes -hell, I had more trouble with hitboxes in the original, always hated how the three demons still would hit you if you ran to them too soon after their butt attack-, enemies that track you as you go around them are ok, being swamped with enemies is ok -I played DS1 with the aggression mod just so enemies would attack me all at once- , etc etc.
Problem is they'd have a much more limited userbase to resell the game to due to Sony owning the rights to Demon Souls compared to a game that's available on every major platform under the sun. I can kind of understand why they did this.
But Sony is the publisher of Bloodbourne. That really wouldn't make much sense. It means that the mad suspect timing of the release might be meant to coincide with the disappointed reception that they already anticipate from Bloodborne.
Sales Tactics Ogre.
Conjecture? Yes.
Possible? Given DS2... highly.
Hooboy. Seriously? They are complaints that a majority of the community has outside of GAF (which forever is taken to be the gaming community at large for some reason).
I grabbed DS2 on PS3 and PC. No interest in this updated version, especially not at full price. The PC version works just fine and (because it didn't seem all too clear) hopefully will get these "adjustments".
Its not suspect when Dark Souls 1 and Dragons Dogma also had enhanced releases about a 1 later. Weren't fans going gaga over the idea that they are not even the same teams making the games? What a stupid thing to assume. It means that the mad suspect timing of the release might be meant to coincide with the disappointed reception that they already anticipate from Bloodborne.

They addressed MY issues with the base game.
the DLC were pretty great (minus a couple of the bosses being shit reskins).
Also, lol.. Artorias was not "free" on PC, it was included in the GOTY edition of sort which was the only one available because it came out later.
By your logic, these DLC are also free on PC, PS4 and XBone, to anyone buying the GOTY edition of sort, coming out later (i.e.: this one).
That seems more of a excuse than a actual argument... What "new content/gameplay" are you referring to to make the leap of logic that it would be in essence a 4th DLC, even if we did agree that the Season Pass only accounted for 3 things, we don't. It never stated that, nor did anybody ever even imply it on any level, Bio Inf included all kinds of new DLC in the Season Pass, more than three.
And don't get me started on Borderlands/Payday 2/Capcom/etc DLC nonsense.
Its not suspect when Dark Souls 1 and Dragons Dogma also had enhanced releases about a 1 later. Weren't fans going gags over the idea that they are not even the same teams making the games? What as stupid thing to assume.
If anything they are calling back to Demons Souls with the Scej x From ads and the impressions so far support this.
My assumption is supported unlike yours. But whatever, enjoy being a downer. The stupid thing to assume is anything, actually.
But do keep on assuming.

what section is this?
is it? 'cuz man... yeah. it's not all of the enemies there, but that one enemy type is really the standout for annoying and boring enemies to fight. everything else i feel is fair and manageable but those dudes...dragon shrine
I agree.
There is a reason why Miyazaki' Souls are memorable and DS2 is not.
And that reason is Miyazaki.
Dark Souls 2 is a good game, one of my favourites, but lacks Miyazaki's imagination.
It is so obvious to me. I can feel (or cannot feel, in this case) it.
The "soul" is not there.
Interesting, thank you for the info. I'm still excited to try it out and give it a chance.
I am real confused on the hard split between DX9 and DX11, though. What's preventing those from being compatible?
From the season pass steampage
Delve into the Lost Crowns Trilogy with the DARK SOULS™ II Season Pass.
By purchasing this Season Pass, you will get at discounted price the three additional chapters from the Lost Crowns Trilogy and start a journey through underground caverns spanned with stepped pyramids, a massive tower engulfed by black mist or an ancient temple wrung with freezing storms, towering walls and a hollow emptiness.
This quest will lead you through:
-Crown of the Sunken King
-Crown of the Old Iron King
-Crown of the Ivory King
Those 3 chapters will lead you to confront new fearsome bosses and hosts of new enemies through entirely original areas and will respectively be released on July 22nd, August 26th, and September 30th.
Each DLC will be added to your Steam account as they become available.
The season pass requires "DARK SOULS™ II" to function.
So in your opinion every game with a season pass that has been remade should have been free for season pass owners?
Yep. I've been critical of DS2 in the past, but a lot of the criticism in this thread reads like some are looking at past Souls games through rose-colored glasses, and then choosing to look at DS2 through the lens of GIFs showing messed up hitboxes and screenshots showing flat trees. Just incredibly hyperbolic stuff, considering the gameplay and aesthetics generally hold up just fine a great majority of the time (on PC, at least).
Anyway, unfortunate that this will split the PC userbase, but hopefully there's a strong discount option that mitigates this. With a small enough barrier to making the upgrade, I would expect this new version to revitalize the community, not make it feel smaller. It's interesting, though, that they'll be using new servers for the PC version, as well. Pretty curious how different the remaster will be from the original, especially in terms of matchmaking.
Also, I feel the people connecting this remaster to the downgrade are completely off-base. I don't really see this as an opportunity to reintroduce the original lighting, because that was connected to a gameplay system that doesn't seem to exist anymore. I wouldn't expect it, and based on the screenshots, it doesn't seem to be there.
Yeah, definitely give it a chance. As you can tell by this thread, a lot of people have enjoyed it and most importantly, it is still a lot better than most games. Just don't expect it to have the same feel as Demon's or Dark Souls.
I wouldn't just call it "vocal", I'd call it "screaming".Vocal minority unless proven otherwise.
Don't doubt the complaints don't touch some valid points, but in the grand scheme, they are tiny details.
