Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

It's the best Saints Row due to the super powers, but it's extremely lazy in terms of city design. It's pretty much the same city as 3.

IV's a bit too batshit goofy, but if you approach it as just a follow-up to 3, it's pretty solid stuff. It takes the LET'S GO TO 11, AND THEN GO HIGHER THAN 11! approach and works well with that premise. As someone who bought it at launch, I was glad to sell it and get most of my money back as it damn sure wasn't worth $60.

I'm getting strong 'haven't read the OP' vibes, so....

Is it better than Conviction?

Infinitely.

I hated Conviction. Couldn't be bothered to finish it since it was basically a glorified linear shootbang action game.

Blacklist actually provides you with wide open levels that allow for multiple approaches, with all levels being possible to completely ghost. Guard patrols are also randomized, so that when you reload checkpoints you never know how guards will act, making it impossible to just memorize patrols and get through the game that way. You have to actually improvise on the fly and use all your abilities to get through.

I did a write-up of the game here right after finishing it in case you're interested in reading a mini-review. You can also read my write-up of it in my GOTY 2013 voting thread.

Big dumb fun. Decent to screw around with because of the super powers, same mostly terrible mission design as SR3. It's over the top stupid and trying to be even stupider than that, though, so it can definitely wear thin if you don't have a tolerance for that sort of stuff.

I thought I was done, but had to grab Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider Underworld, Saint's Row IV, Xcom Enemy Unknown and The Bureau. All for under 20 dollars.

Castle crashers for 1.49?! Tomb Raider for 3.99?!

Does CC look and run better on PC than the 360 version? Or is it res locked?

Can someone give me the must have Crusader Kings II DLC? I have the main game but none of the DLC and I am wondering which ones are the must haves as there is a metric shit tonne of them.

there are no must have. it comes down to what are you more interested in (muslims? republics? indians? etc)

Content DLCs:

Sword of Islam (Islamic Countries)
The Old Gods (Northern Europe, pagan countries)
The Republic (Italian trade cities)
Rajas of India (the whole land of India, hindu countries)
Sons of Abraham (Church stuff)
Charlemagne (Germanic lands)

They all have a bit more to them, but this is generally what they're about. You should get them all to get access to everything. Everything else is window dressing.

Blacklist should be a no brainer to anyone who was ever interested in the military genre of games. Even if you're from the old school SWAT/R6 guy. The game has teeth. It's not the second coming, but it's the closest thing we have to modern awesome military stealth game., Tons of PC options too. Runs pretty well.

One of the sleeper gems of the past few years.

Does Steam ever do 2 game bundle sales?

Basically I'm looking for Steam Sale vets to let me know if Shadowrun Returns and Dragonfall are going to be bundled together for a cheaper price this Winter, or if I should go ahead and get Returns for $1.50 right now even if I won't play it for a while, since I imagine it won't ever get lower than 90% off standalone.

Now wait for a Humble Bundle.

There are a lot of bundles on Steam but it's the decision of the publisher or developer. Chances are low in this case that something will happen until the winter sale.

Splinter Cell Blacklist is an amazing stealth game, for anyone interested in the genre. It was my GOTY last year due mainly to its great level design and open ended missions. I played it on Xbox but am considering double dipping on PC.

I had gone almost the entire run not buying a single game for myself, which would have been a major milestone for me personally.

Skimming Steam reviews of Planetary Annihilation is interesting. Most people seem to love it and say it's something special, then reluctantly give it a negative review because of how the development was handled. I think it looks really cool and I'll pick it up for such a low price.

Quick questions: How are players pitted against each other? Are there 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 modes at least? Does everyone on the team control everything?

I never got my resolution to work. Please share. :)

Sorry, I've been busy.
Ok, go to your Steam library and right-click on GTAIV in your list. Select Properties from the pulldown menu. Then click on Set Launch Options.
Type -nomemrestrict -norestrictions in the box and click OK.
Launch the game and all the graphics options should work. They did for me, at least. (Tried with 7950 3GB)

It looks better, sort of. Some things are more improved than others. The characters are really sharp, but some of the background stuff not so much. I personally prefer it, but the presentation is more uneven.

Just bought Castle Crashers with a friend and ...welp! $5 down the drain.

Game can't even handle online multiplayer. Can't get 3 seconds into a game without crashing out. What a POS.

Local co-op is better anyway, but that sucks.

Absolutely not crazy. Usually the Winter is better (or at least comparable) to the Thanksgiving sale.

And the likelihood that spending during the winter sale will nab some cards that you can sell
or let consume you and buy more cards
.

Just played online a couple weeks ago and it worked fine for me.

Is it me or has this sale been pretty disappointing? Not only the 'exploratory' steam interface but also the low percentage of sale.

Granted the fact that I already own many of the bigger titles may also have contributed to this disappointment.
