There will be a remake of FFVII at some point in the future. If it's announced this week, or ten years from now, it's an inevitability.
And there will be a new Crash game, if it's published by Activision, or Sony, if it's on PS4 only, or the next DS, it's going to happen.
The questions are less of if these things happen, than if they can happen right now. I actually think Crash is more likely, the only way Sony gets an exclusive FFVII remake is with a co-publishing deal taking practically any risk off SE. People are in the mindset that it's easier because PS4 is winning, and will win the generation, but that can't have been a factor in a contract for a remake if it's coming out any time in the next couple of years. More likely it's multiplatform if it exists. Crash is a far smaller investment, and an easier deal to strike.
I don't think either will be at the show though. I think at best you get an exclusive new Oddworld, and a look at GT7.
Let's dig into this a little bit here.
In regards to FFVIIr
So yes, a FF VII remake is on it's way and I'm starting to think it definately
will not be shown this weekend, but it will be shown next year at E3 or TGS even though it fits the 20 year anniversary mood perfectly.
It believe it will be a 2 part game; a remake of the original with the updated graphics like Advent Children, but also I believe they will create an interactive movie out of the Advent Children assets, or create a completely seperate, and new, game out of it. It only makes complete sense for SE to feel like they are giving fans the complete FFVII experience.
As for Crash:
Yes, I'm leaning towards it being there and with some flair. I'm thinking that there has been an agreement in principle with Activision to buy back the Crash IP since last year when it was removed from their website, but it will not be formally be signed/executed until Sat. morning with B. Kotick in attendance. We may witness the live signing on stage as part of the event, which may have been hinted at by Boyes himself when saying they were trying "something new." Then we may get the fanboy wish of the big Crash mascot jumping into the arms of the SCEA execs, with a "Welcome Home" sign on the big screen. If they did not buy the IP, they signed an exclusive (1 of a kind) contract with Activision to create a new Crash, exclusive to PS4 with Sony ponying up the money for the dev., marketing and distribution of the titles. It could be a multigame license, but the "something new" could mean they will do all of it and not retail rights to the IP.
As for the other "Megaton(s)"
- TLG reintroduction
- GTVII trailer will be show ( fall 2015 launch at earliest)
- Dragon's Dogma II and/or Street Fighter V will be PS4 exclusive.
- R&C info/trailer
Outside of that we get some fan appreciation vids, sales facts and the 3.0 update information.
Done and a great conference, even without FFVIIr.
