Destiny: Exotic weapons fixed.... and then broken.

Motes of Light are now reasonably worthless too unless you like cloaks, towels and armbands. Xur doesn't sell an engram anymore.

Wait so the new "reward" for completing your first public event per day per character that replaced a mail item that came with an xp bonus, potential for engrams and shards/coins is now completely worthless? Well aside from buying worthless visual upgrades and re-buying into a PvP thing. Seriously, what the fuck.

I guess when you only have a few hours of content in a $20 piece of DLC yoi gotta figure out how to stretch it out as long possible until the next $20 DLC with next to no content where the same shit treadmill starts again. But hey, at least we got bitchin' speeders amirite?

Oh no Bungie is trying to make us play thier video game more!! Those bastards. Here I was thinking I was almost done with the game so that I could get back to curing cancer. But nooo, thanks to bungie I will be tied up for even more hours of game playing fun times.

BooFkingHoo

How many more times do I have to hear about Sepkis Prime casting a great shadow on our city until it starts being fun again?

I too can make ambiguous statements, throw them around as undisputable fact, and hand wave people asking for an explanation in order to stifle discussion if I so wished. But I don't. I'm still packing in that tobacco to my pipe.

If you read that in my posts, sorry sir, that wasn't my intention. I just spend a few words to share one of the good things Destiny does compared to the most of the modern mmorpg.

Ps I'm Sorry if I'm not reply to any other reply, I'm leaving my pc so I won't be able to reply for some hours.

You don't substantiate your post with any direct examples of "dead time" from the MMOs you've "studied". You just make a vague point and leave it out for people to easily poke holes in.

I have no idea what Bungie is doing.

PR out of the stone age.

Making the grind between 22 - 28 even duller than it already was (and much, much longer).

Seriously, what the hell were they thinking with that Legendary move? Has any player ever said "man, this game would be more fun if legendary acquisition was slower and duller."

It's not even like they're selling F2P shit. They've just made a crappy game and are trying to string out the meagre content.

Everyone who was any good at Bungie must be long since gone.

Well, some members stayed behind to join 343 when they left Microsoft. Then we know some left before this game was released. We also know they hired a ton of people for this game's development.

I'm wondering if the issue is that they developed some of these strategies all the way back before this rumored complete gutting/overhaul of the game took place, and at the time they were expecting to be much more content to be present in the game at the time of release. Because these decisions make no sense given the amount of content that we actually got.

I'm not a PVP player, I don't enjoy that.

I'm seeing this expansion as £20 for 1 raid, 2 strikes that I'll be interesting in playing through once and having half of my progress reset.

Unless this info has all been one big mess and not accurate, I'm not going to purchase anything else, or play this game again. I only got back playing yesterday after a couple weeks playing other games. I geared up to kick ass in this expansion, level 30, maxed Hawkmoon, Monte Carlo, Suros, Plan C, Truth, Ice Breaker and 15 or so maxed legendaries. All so I'd be ready for what came next, if it seemed good. If this news is legit, we should have known well in advance, because most of us have continued investing big time for the next challenge.

I don't see the point. Destiny has something to teach, uh, The Elder Scrolls Online maybe? Because the big boys in MMOs should take nothing from Destiny and its extremely padded-out progression systems.

Well gameplay for one. The gameplay in destiny is better than any mmo ive ever played. And ive played alot of them.

if i knew this was the direction they were gonna take than i would've sold my copy ages ago and never bothered to buy the xpack. fuck

Oh, that's fine. Destiny does some good things, the gameplay is fantastic. Have fun~! I'm sure we'll still be here when you're back, so you'll have alot to read and pore over!

Am I reading this right? Levelled exotics essentially get reset?

Hey why stop there? Why not reset our accounts to give us a fresh run at all this content? /s

Please tell me I'm misinterpreting something

I bought the Digital Guardian Edition so I'm completely fucked. This game has put me off buying digital and buying season passes in advance.

The progress is reset after choosing to increase the damage cap to match Dark Below exotics through Xur.

"Whether we wanted it or not, we stepped into a war with the cabal..."

Burned into my mind.

Especially when you get the same effin strike 3 times in a row. I'm on PlayStation so I have 6 strikes but half the time I only feel like I have 2: Valus or the Priest.

Honestly the whole thing is systemic of the fact that at some point Bungie wanted to make an MMO and then forgot they needed content. A throw away 8-12 hour story, same set of repeating dailies, 6 dungeons and 1 raid. Most MMOs fail with more content than that. Now the expansion is coming with 3 story missions, 2 dungeons and a raid. With such a lack of content they need some hook to keep people playing to ultimately purchase the next pieces of content they release. Having new ridiculous treadmills and gating they accomplish just that without creation of any new content.

One of the first disappointments I had with this game was the Queen's Bounty event. It was billed as new single player content and I had hopes that there would be new story missions etc for free. Instead we got new bounties to go to the same places we were currently going to to gain reputation to buy crap blue rewards and quests to essentially do heroic story missions for possible legendary gear. So yep, brand new single player content that was just the same content out there with a new hook. Sums up Destiny well I think.

But, much like my love/hate with WoW, I'll be playing this game tonight.

You really should have the privilege of having a tag that says "I don't even have time to explain why i don't have time to explain".

They're doing it wrong.

Prediction:

This from Bungie's note today:

Commendations are received in Reputation Reward Packages delivered by the Postmaster upon reaching a new Reputation Level

Actually means this:

CommendationsMIGHT BE received in Reputation Reward Packages delivered by the Postmaster upon reaching a new Reputation Level.

This would be entirely consistent with the general design principles of Destiny, and Bungie's misleading way of describing content.

yep. I'll be waiting for reviews and thoughts by folks in GAF before I buy their next game

I concur. I was enthralled by the alpha/beta, I truly thought it was a tip of the iceberg and boy was I wrong. Then I fell into the trap of preordering. Shame on me.

Between BF4 and Bungie, I've learned my lesson. Wait for reviews and some games will be bargain bin purchases.

'This actually means this' is a good summary of the majority of their patches up to now

See, I mean, I haven't had max Vanguard marks since maybe the third or fourth week of playing. I've bought some really good legendary weapons and armor since then, so I am never at max marks. So for me, mats still ARE the bottleneck.

I'm not sure how much you play--I play maybe a few hours each week--but the ass bottleneck is real for a lot of us, especially those who are even more casual than me. (I think I have 120 hours logged, which isn't really a whole lot, compared to a lot of other players).

I know they are a bottleneck for you, I explicitly acknowledged this fact in my previous post. My point is that there are many readily available ways to bypass this bottleneck whereas there are no (currently) available ways to rapidly accumulate 200,000 XP and all the glimmer required for these upgrades.

There are tons of easy ways to get in a good raid group that can finish a raid in 45 min, especially on normal.

Decisions like this should have been ironed out before the game shipped. It makes very little sense. Some of the people I do weekly strikes with didn't even realize what was going on until I explained it to them over voice chat. Very fun game from a mechanics standpoint, but they are all over the place when it comes to changing Queen's Bounty stuff mid week, and now this. I had spent a bunch of glimmer specifically to buy Vanguard gear to break down for shards, only to have the whole upgrade process change in the middle of it. Now instead of spending strange coins on a helmet that would enable me to get to level thirty, I have to divert those to "exotic shards" that would enable me to fully level up stuff I was already rounding the bases on.

I understand content getting cut into order to ship a game (and it is obvious in this instance), but all of this currency and tower transaction nonsense should have been finalized before they even put the alpha up on PSN. I've gotten plenty of fun out of the game, but I'm moving on.

So, they have Impossible Dillema to solve: challenging hardcore that plays and plays and have almost no new challenge and criticizes the game because of that (vocal minority, check the trophies stats and see) or to allow casuals and newcome players to have some progress without timesink.
The funny thing is - the game DOES have enough content, just not how they're using it. If they made the following changes the game would be a lot meatier:

* Tie drop quality and rarity to enemy level. Enemies above player level drop rarer loot. Enemies of lower level drop more common loot. Gray enemies drop no loot, only ammo.
* Auto-scale lower level players to the highest level player in the fire team. Friends can always play with friends, no matter what.
* Auto-scale enemy levels to the fire-team level. All missions become available to play, at all levels.
* Always drop loot appropriate to the character's level (not the upscaled level). Players will always get level appropriate loot.
* Once a mission has been unlocked by a player, it can be replayed any time, at any level. Guests can access higher level missions the fireteam leader has, even if they haven't unlocked for that player yet.
* Open world / shared spaces should use matchmaking to put fireteams of the same level ranges with each other. Low level players will be matchmade with other low level players and vice versa. This means patrol missions will always scale to your level.

Boom. Its the Diablo 3 post-launch fixes formula, but I think it'd work. Destiny would have all of its content available to play at all times which would help with variety and the grind. Bungie could still put up bounties and dailies and weeklies the way they do now - picking select missions and setting skulls on em.

What is the point of raising the level cap if everything you have is just going to get automatically buffed up? Every MMO I know of requires you to get new gear when the level cap is increased.

This game doesn't need to go through those motions because the whole point of the game is to simply collect gear.

That is what everyone I know plays this game for.

When the new content releases, everyone will be focusing on the new weapons and gear.

Plus bro I think you are forgetting something? Most MMOs have a much longer gear lifespan. Most MMOS only raise there respective levels caps like once a year.

During that time, you've been reaping the benefits of having those extra abilities and damage. You haven't 'wasted' a second, especially if you did any Iron Banner. You were playing the game and (I sincerely hope) enjoying it.

I'm not blind to the thought of losing progress. But what happens when a new gun drops for you even with current content? Start that leveling over, son.

Levelling a newly acquired item and having to re-level the gear you spent ages maxing already is not the same thing.

Wait so all of our current Legendary and Raid gear will obsolete come Tuesday? If so, then I am done for now as well.

No, your raid gear won't be obsolete. Nor will any of your weapons that are legendaries. Yeah they are introducing new legendaries with a higher ATK score, but 300 weapons are still perfectly good for doing anything that isn't the hard mode raid from the new dlc. Seriously, it is.

Am I reading this right? Levelled exotics essentially get reset?

Please tell me I'm misinterpreting something

DUDE! DONT START GIVING THEM IDEAS!

but that would make sense. sense makes players play less.

BINGO!

This is all part of Bungie's need to extend the game's paltry amount of of core game and DLC content out even further. If this game had the same content as a regular MMO they would never need to do this.

Made sure I won't play again by deleting my characters. Would have traded it all away but meh.

I feel very liberated... it has only been 3 months.

I'm so torn right now, I don't want to level my exotics up right now because of the announcement. But, at the same time, what if they change it to require max leveled exotics for an upgrade that doesn't fully reset it? That would actually kinda make me angrier, if I waited a whole week under another pretense that they changed their mind on and would miss out on the first round of upgrades.

Especially considering the upgrades are limited by weekends, too.

Aghhh, Bungie why you do this?

Made sure I won't play again by deleting my characters. Would have traded it all away but meh.

Uhhh, wow.

The fact they can't even clarify this until next week may be why I drop this game now.

So I just got a new exotic. Is there any point in trying to upgrade it? Seems like I should just wait till Tuesday. Or does it have to be fully upgraded to trade into Xur?

Hahaha for a game you didn't like but still leveled 3 characters for?

Or maybe you did like the game and THIS change was too much for you? Lol

I bought the Digital Guardian Edition so I'm completely fucked. This game has put me off buying digital and buying season passes in advance.

Bought standard digital and short of cheap titles I'm done with digital unless it's something like GTA V or TLOU where I know exactly what I'm getting. I thought I'd be in with Destiny for the long haul and was thinking about jumping back in but fuck this. No way in hell I'd pay for DLC unless it provided a ton of new content.

Not to belabor this whole deal (OK too late), but why did they even bother implementing this new upgrade system to the current weapons if they are going to stealth implement this whole "upgraded weapon reset" so soon afterward?

What is the point of changing the way you upgrade the current weapons or even have further weapon upgrades for that matter, if the current weapon upgrades are soon to be rendered useless?

Why didn't they just save the new upgrade system for the new higher level weapons?

Did Bungie really think that players would want to spend the time and effort upgrading these weapons to make them more effective when the new update just defeats the whole purpose of that? Its idiotic!

Whats even more exasperating is how late into the game they are announcing this change. I mean, you announce completely drastic change to how upgrades in the game will work A FEW DAYS before imcorporating it? Why didn;t they announce this a month or more ago?

What I feel really bad for are the people who are not in the game's update loop and will be taken completely surprise by this when the real change comes this Friday. I feel REALLY bad for a buddy of mine. I was talking with him the other night and he wanted to finish upgrading one of his weapons. He was desperately trying to get an exotic shard so he could have it maxed. He was even talking about breaking down one of his other exotics to get it. Now can you imagine how pissed he will be when he finds out that exotic shard he used for that final upgrade will be totally squandered when the upgraded version of his current exotic weapon comes out? He didn't know about this new change and I doubt he will find out in time.
