Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

What exactly is the difference? It's still just money changing hands at the end of the day, and we will never be privy to complete financial details of a games development. This always just feels like people just begging companies to tell them what they want to hear to somehow feel better about themselves, like the whole "don't announce DLC before a game comes out so that I can pretend it wasn't in development until after release" thing.

The difference is in one case the game would not exist at all without the funding, and in another case the game was always going to exist and someone paid to prevent other people from getting it.

I mean it's a pretty significant difference and absolutely vital in determining whether anyone should be annoyed. It's like how Bayonetta 2 wouldn't have existed without Nintendo's help, yet people wanted to cry about it.

If this was exclusive PS3, PS4, that would be one thing.

If its a look at the next gen market as is, and the market Capcom is going for with SFIV?

PS4 only is the obvious choice to test out the market for ANOTHER fighting game before doubling down with the competition.

It looks like Capcom is taking the low risk route, and taking the free Sony publicity for the ride.

Jesus the hypocrisy. Celebratory hypocrisy

Keep getting garbage, drive-by blanket posts like these.

GAF is not a hivemind. Got some specific users to call out, then grab the posts and call them out. Or, if you're trying to refer to Tomb Raider, then you need to check your facts. Unlike that game, SFV was never announced on other platforms beforehand. Not to mention it's coming to the PC as well.

...oh why am I even wasting my breath. I'd bet anything that you wouldn't say anything about some so-called hypocrisy if it was going Wii U exclusive or something. I'm responding to bait, but whatever.

Lol sure. Capcom needs help financing their biggest game and the most successfull fighting game series ever conceived. And I'm pretty sure the money bleeding Capcom really doesn't want sales from the Xbox version whatsoever.

It's moneyhatting and it directly contradicts what Sony PR said 6 months ago. Pure and simple.

Both RE and MH is bigger than SF for capcom .

They've gone and done it... they've gone and woke the sleeping dragon now.

Sony should have left well enough alone and now they're going to get it. It's not enough that they're bleeding benjamins from practically every crevice of their existence. Now they go and throw immense moneyhats at a niche game like Street Fighter just to piss off the market. Why pay to keep a game out of the hands of as many gamers as possible? Why not put that money into first-party studios and games instead?

I know, I know... this is the way the business goes as they say. Well, they forced Microsoft's hands with their early sales lead and Microsoft only responded with an NPD whooping (source: musings thread) by way of incredible deals and value. Microsoft will undoubtedly follow this announcement up with some real megatons of their own.

Gears remake collection. A true Banjo sequel. Halo 5 beta in the hands of gamers. The next Bayonetta, Dead Space and Crysis as exclusives. Those are the kinds of blockbuster response announcements I expect, and then some. You hit Microsoft with a jab, you best be ready for a flurry of uppercuts coming at you in response.

Holy hell is this a parody post?
Please tell me this is a parody post.

IIRC Microsoft was using shipped numbers. Sony has been touting sold numbers.

Didn't realize that was the case since MS used the word "sold". So I missed it if there was clarification later, thanks.

LOL, MS pr at it's best. Sony was at 13.5 END of sept..MS said they will SOON be at 10 that was near black friday with holiday shipments....Sony is closing in on 20 million soon, it is near 2:1 Worldwide. The gap is large worldwide and growing weekly.

lol
well done MS it worked

You two need to get off your console war horses. All I knew was at the end of Oct Sony revealed they sold 13.5 million units, at least the article I read was from around that time. Also MS recently claimed to almost selling 10 million units. Usually both companies are pretty good at specifying shipped or sold.

I only own a PS4 and am not invested in this silly race like you guys are. All I did is make a comment because <10 million to 13.5 million did not sound like 2:1 to me.

This can't be a real post. How do you guys come up with this stuff?

That art style is so just so safe. You can almost imagine it being a next-gen remaster. I'm guessing that's not coincidence, either.

Sony starts making money and immediately we see shenanigans. Ono has said before the development costs of SFV were prohibitive so I'd like to know if Sony funded a part of this game. But it also being on PC makes it seem like a moneyhat. PC will move significantly fewer units vs the PS4 version so it makes the overall cost of the moneyhat cheaper.

That was a standard "let's add this to our avatars" little bit that was going around about the time of the, I think, PS4 announcement. I just never took it off. I'm called a Sony Warrior and a Sony Hater in equal measure (because I call out Sony making stupid decisions or having poor schedule planning on a regular basis and started a few threads on those subjects).

I'm just still of the opinion that one can't get mad at any of these companies for doing this. If one is going to do it I feel it's unreasonable to then try and hold some other platform holder to some lofty "moral obligation" to not do it and thus immediately put themselves at a disadvantage in the market.

Now, if this had been the first ever instance of such behavior, I'd be more annoyed, but it's not, so platform holders have to play on the same field as their competitors.

It's Just Business™

And other flimsy lines of justification/dismissal.

This has been a fantastic thread to read through. So many amazing new .gifs, new memes, detective GAF at work. I'm indifferent to Fighting Games in general, and care not for SFV. I'm not a fan of third party games that had been multiplatform in the past now being exclusive (console, timed, etc). I'm more of a fan of exclusives that come to be like Quantum Break or Bloodborne where the IP owner works with a third party to develop the game. That's creating something new and specific for your consumers, not simply taking away from others. So Rise of the Tomb Raider and SFV aren't what I want to see happen in the industry on a go forward basis. I want more Quantum Breaks and Bloodbornes.

Top Brass at Capcom think SF was dead before 4 and they think there's no money to be made after the declining sales of every iteration. Them using the exclusivity safety net makes sense if these are their feelings. PC confirmed is nice.

Releasing on systems first instead of arcade is an interesting move if they are.

Totally agree. It's an industry and these are businesses. It's all about money. Not 'fairness', 'parity' or 'equality'.

Too early to draw any conclusion.

We don't know if it's timed or not, if it's for all SFV expansions or not, if it was founded by Sony or not, etc, and we'll only know any details at PSX, so better wait a little before being banned or something like that.

But what I really want to know is if my PS3 FightSticks will work on my PS4!!

Because, Tomb Raider was announced for PS4, Xbox, and PC, THEN for just Xbox. Here, it's announced from the start for PS4 and PC.

I honestly wish that people would stop trying to delineate every permutation of exclusivity deals to try and arrive at what "feels" right and just accept that exclusivity deals -- no matter the circumstances -- are a part of doing business and are fine. Tomb Raider exclusive to Xbox One? Good for MS, Square Enix, and Xbox One owners. Street Fighter V exclusive to PS4? Good for Capcom, Sony, and PS4 fans. Sometimes, it's an acceptable strategy to mitigate risk. Sometimes, it's necessary to get a game funded at all. But it's absolutely silly seeing people work through a bunch of extremely similar circumstances just to justify why Situation X was bullshit and Situation Y it totes on the up and up.

double dipping PC + PS4 confirmed. (PC for work , PS4 for home)

I hope the speed, rhythm and feel is closer to SF3s than SF4.

I always hated SF4's mashmellow, mushy feeling.

I don't understand Xbox1 owners, you made your choice to opt for the dudebro console, that is your own doing

fuck sake this is ridiculous

Seems like I'm in the minority here, but the exclusivity news is really secondary to the fact that HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT'S SF FIVE!

the funny thing?

So is the phrase "Tomb Raider" all of a sudden lol

But there is a difference between funding a game that otherwise would not exist (not saying that's the case here, I don't know) and paying for a game that was always going to exist to not go on another platform. I mean I don't think that's remotely silly to have issue with one of these and not the other.

LOL, this is not Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider is a multiplatform announced trying to pretend to be a platform exclusive after Gamescom.

It might not make sense but the bolded just doesn't feel the same to me. I would just rather the game exist and if it takes partnering with a platform holder to do so than though the situation isn't ideal Ill take it.

So are we going to give Sony/Capcom the same amount of shit we gave MS/Square for the Rise of the Tomb Raider shit, or are we going to hold this to different standards again?

I think the leak works out real well for Capcom, to be honest. They're going to own the news day until TGAs tonight/PSX tomorrow.

People didn't wait with the Tomb Raider deal, though. They pressed and pressed before knowing details because no real details were given. I suppose it's too early to press Capcom on this since it's not "official" yet, but once it is I wonder how it'll all play out.

RoTR is different situation though, in the first reveal of the game it wasn't announced as exclusive, then suddenly 2 months later Bam! it's exclusive. Also there's was also BS PR from both MS and CD about the whole exclusivity deal.

Updated, I wasn't too sure if that was from IV XD

What a gorgeous step up over SFIV

However, gotta love some of the hypocrisy in here. Both with the console exclusive talk (I thought we said that was a stupid label since Titanfall, or does that not matter here because ... "reasons") and the "Oh this moneyhat is CLEARLY different from Tomb Raider gaiz!1111!!!!1!!!"
